  • Hope you've enjoyed this series more than Goose enjoyed ejection seats. In this episode, I demonstrate how I use oil paints for weathering and if you stay till the end, you get to see the finished model (or you could just jump to 22:50 to see it I guess).

    Hi Sean matey, hope you and your family are all safe and well? This is another top job, if only my " Wingy Things" terned out like ALL of yours do. I glad you showed how you did the wing weathering where the wings fold etc. Its similar to the way I do my windscreens on my Armour projects. I usually measure how big the windscreen wipers are. Cut a mask to that, and then once applied to your windscreen you can spray a very, light dust cote but building it up in layers. Then once dry you can remove your masks and "Wella". I'm sure you've done that technique for years, when you've had a Armour project, car, Sci fi, hell even Wingy Things. You've done a brill job once again and if it's OK with you I'm going use your videos of this project to help me with mine when I eventually can kick this " no mojo" feeling and I can be arsed to get up off my fat ass. Please stay safe my friend, to you and your family

If you're not aware with that is that is the wings sweep over the horizontal stabilizers for parking purposes on the carrier. I’d love to see what you come up with! As far as thinning the winsor newton, I’d definitely recommend using the vallejo thinner. You could probably use any acrylic thinner but I would stay away from lacquer thinners like mr color leveling thinner. If you got some windshield washer fluid (blue stuff), you could even try that. I’ve used it to thin non-alcohol based acrylics like the cheap craft paint you can get at Walmart.

    Hello!
    I building the “Mig-28” in 1:48 (AFV’s kit) and I was watching your SR-71 build for tips on how to paint black... would you approach the gloss black the same way you did the flat black on the 71? I’d really appreciate it if you could give me some insight ☕️ 😉

      I’ve painted one before and what I’ve found looks the best (to me anyway), is to pant it all black, then highlight the inside of the panels with a slightly lighter shade of black like NATO black highly diluted, or even a really dark blue. I think the key is to keep it really subtle as the ones in the movie weren’t weathered. Then finish with a gloss coat. The idea in my opinion is to create that slight bit of variation in what would otherwise be a boring straight black finish.

      That’s exactly what I’m after! I’ll give it a shot. Thanks a lot 🙏

    Hey Sean . . qwik question . . . Do you wash the plastic before primer to get rid of any mold release?? Thanks. :)

      @seanerk5kt9  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really...I don’t think mold release is an issue in most if not all of newer plastic kits (you’ll want to wash resin parts though as it does seem to be present on lots of resin stuff). Right before applying primer, I do wipe the plastic all down with a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to get rid of and oils from handling it.

      Thanks for asking Brian, but I’m not doing any commissions at the moment. I will probably build one or two more of these in the future and post them on eBay. Just to give you an idea on cost, the last one sold for just under $900.
