@@fish6760 who said football is the most important thing about Hawaiian culture . Nobody but it is important because
It's positive vibrations. Alot of kids go on to college and become more then just a construction worker . Plus we the community love to support all the keiki of the future.

Small school under 1000. A public school. Where many struggle to make ends meet. They have great pride in their culture and football. But what they also produce is a lot of successful men after football. Their mana doesn’t just apply to football it applies to life. Proud fan from Wyoming.

I love the Haka!! My high school (mainland) had many Pacific Islanders. A few went on to the NFL.. but, we used to perform a haka after every game for the crowd (community). It was the highlight of the week, in my opinion. The crowd would eat it up! The stadium would be so loud!! Hanna Pa’a!

Mahalo nui NFL Network for putting this together and showcasing our awesome community here in Ko’olauloa. I would like to say that the disqualification was not by a judge but by a council of OIA principals that met and made that decision. They started the meeting earlier than scheduled and did not allow our principal into the meeting knowing that she was on her way from the school and had her wait outside while they decided the fate of those young men. Of the 23 schools and principals, Kahuku was not allowed in, and all but 2 of the principals voted to not allow the Kahuku football team play for the OIA championship that year. The 2 school principals that voted in favor of Kahuku playing were Castle and Ānuenue. The other 20 principals from Aiea, Campbell, Farrington, Kailua, Kaimuki, Kaiser, Kalaheo, Kalani, Kapolei, Leilehua, McKinley, Mililani, Moanalua, Nanakuli, Pearl City, Radford, Roosevelt, Waialua, Waianae and Waipahu high schools, whose jobs are to advocate for children decided that these children at Kahuku were not worth advocating for and took the chance for these boys to play against Mililani in the OIA championship away from them. The ruling from the judge came later, he was not the one that decided the fate of that season, those 20 principals did.

Glad the Haka is still being done. The first time Kamate was performed was during the 2000 season after hell week, for the talent show. Those of us that didn't know what to do got together with some kids from NZ and decided to do the Haka. The next year, they started performing Kamate before each game. Coach Sola should remember. It was his senior year when they started that tradition.

I love their dedication to football and their strong bonds it brings to the community. But HS football only lasts for 4 years. I think they should aspire more than just to play HS Football. Some will go to play college football, and select few that make it through college football get to play in NFL. Most will need mentors to guide them to a life after HS Football.
