    Much Aloha and Mahalo for the making of this short film. Many generations have passed, many Hawaiians have moved to the mainland and abroad due to inflation and job opportunities. As the old saying goes, " You can take the boy out of Hawaii but, you can't take the Hawaiian out of the boy." Continue moving forward and do great things!

      I've heard The Rock is making a major film about King Kamehameha, lets just hope the producers dont pack too much pathos in it and instead give the hawaiian people credit and a little dignity back. But you have to do your part as well. My late friend Eddie Pu from Hana, Maui, walked around his Island once a year, visited people, assesed the land and educated the young about the changes he witnessed. His concern for the aina and the drive to do this walk every year for nearly 40 years, made him a great human being in my eyes, I miss our talks. And , yes, this is a great short movie, I want to see more ! Aloha

      A sad necessity, One of the polynesian cultures I admire the most, the Moriori of Rekohu, or the chatham islands had pretty much eliminated wholesale warfare from their culture, all that existed was a form of ritualized dueling for fighting, This was to end in disaster however when two New Zealand Maori Tribes, fleeing their tribal enemies in Aotearoa, managed to get passage to Rekohu on a european ship. They where all hardened by fighting in the musket wars and where armed with muskets and other weapons, sadly they made short work of the Moriori, killing many, eating many, and enslaving the remainder.

    When I was in elementary school my Hawaiian history teacher taught me about King Kamehameha and how he was a smart child he was hidden in a cave behind a rock in a small tunnel and he knew the situation well enough that if he made any noise he would have been killed along with the other villagers. Now I could be wrong about that story but this video does capture that. So I think the young boy is supposed to be King Kamehameha.

      We Native Americans were the same, and still follow what left of our heritage. I am few that know my Native tongue, Medicines & sacred dances. One time I met a group of native Dancers at a pow wow, I believe they were Ogalla. I asked them what dance i your tradition is that priasing, they laughed and said we just dance and move around... So I told them can I show you my Apache Gan dance and song? they looked at like I was crazy, and said sure. I did my dance and chanted native tongue songs. they were quiet no one laughed, I sat down and the main dancer said to me "my Brother we are so lost in the White Man's shadow, I am ashamed" It 6 years but 8 of them know song in scared tongue, play flute, and all dances and medicine. and why we are here the theory of the Great Pahana and the Great Weshu Tanaka. they teach the younger children the way of the HUman Being... See I have terminal cancer now and hope my people will find their home in mind and body.

    • @user96790
      @user96790 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True indeed, technically Marquesan and Tahitian. The start of most warfare in the Hawaiian islands actually stemmed from Pa'ao (A tahitian priest but is also theorized to have maybe come from Samoa) who brought with him Kū (god of war) and the Kapu religion which came with new morals. Seasons of war occured. Add the Marquesans to that mix, who were a warring people with gods that had violent war seasons. The Marquesas partook in ritualized cannibalism, headhunting, and constant threat of warfare between the islands valleys but the Tahitians brought with them human sacrifice. People started to leave those islands for other places (Hawaii, Rapa Nui, New Zealand ). These conditions, and competition for land and mana, combined with the strict religion brought by Tahitians created some violence in the old days, especially torward people trying to come into certain islands or regions (Samoans and other incoming travelers from Tahiti or Kahiki, Bora Bora or Pola Pola, and the Tuamotus) several mo'olelo, places, prophecies, and documented stories hint at people from "foreign" islands traveling to Hawaii often in early days
