Good review!!! Ordered my OnePlus Open and awaiting forf it to arrive. May I ask you one question. The slider switch on the side for mute etc, does it feel good quality? This sort of assembly often feels flimsy (is the slider plastic) and can see it getting looser and worn over time. Thank you!
@@K22MDL Thanks K22! I've used a lot of OnePlus devices with the alert slider and they've always held up well. The slider on the Open feels properly stiff and not mushy. I'm not sure if it's plastic or not, but it's textured in a pleasing way. I hope that helps and enjoy the Open!
Top man, thank you for coming back to me. I managed to find a way of saving another £100GBP off their advertised price so cancelled yesterdays order and reordered a few hours ago. Subsribed btw. @@phonecomp
I'm with you TimP! It's such a fantastic device, I also recently sold my 7 Pro (to partly cover the $500 after trading in the OnePlus 11) and I liked that device so much. I always enjoy my time with Pixels, but the Open really puts it and the Pixel Fold to shame.
Hello Dillon! Without a good trade-in deal, yes--you're absolutely right. There's no way I would have bought this phone at $1,499--even though I really like it. That's just way outside of my budget for review devices.
Thank you for at great review and comparison. You are somehow the first reviewer to actually compare the open directly to the s23 ultra which is kinda weird no one else have done before. Just what I was looking for :) subscribed
Just love this fantistic phone, even I watched the durablity pass video which is channel here a crazy guy conducted the test. He claim that other fold phones did not pass like this Open. I dicided to buy . Thank you
Hello MrGanbat! I'm so glad you like the Open, it really is the best foldable yet in my opinion. Long term durability still concerns me, but so far so good!
Time for me to improve your life even more... Next time you watch a video and are missing a stand. Instead of folding it half open using the main screen. Fold it into a V and place it in tent mode on a series. It will automatically notice and switch to the outer display. Next up. the IR blaster is totally underestimated. I didn't think I would use it but I use it every day controlling my AC/heater, projector and TV in the bedroom. I always lose the remote so this is such a life important that I didn't expect and almost no reviewer is talking about And the fact that the phone speaker is loud enough to hear the music while showering is also a quality of life improvement that my Pixel and Z fold 2 couldn't do. Only thing I'm missing is pen support. Apparently it does support it. People have tested with last years Oppo Find N pen and it worked. But OnePlus isn't talking about it and it is not possible to buy in Europe. :( hopefully this will change but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Hello 1wJan! You are absolutely right about the speakers, they are pleasingly loud, and the IR blaster is great! I often use Poco devices and that is a feature I'm glad to see OnePlus adding--mainly because my kids often lose the TV remote . . . and when I say "my kids, " it's probably me half the time--but that hurts to admit. I just tried the tent mode for the screen and you're right, and I never even thought to try it! I'm considering a follow-up video in January and I'll absolutely include your points (especially if Oneplus launches a compatible pen that's available globally). Thank you so much!
I was on their website friday and saw they were offering me more than what I paid for the OnePlus 11. I missed the crazy initial deals but it will still only cost around $800 with tax. It will be my first foldable and I am freaking stoked to get my hands on it and see what all the fuss is about.
That's great Marco! OnePlus is doing what it takes to get customers right now for sure. I hope you absolutely love it. It really feels like a game changer to me so far. Let me know what you think when yours comes in!
So glad you liked it Jonathan! It's a Kavalan height adjustable phone stand. It's nothing special, but it does work ok . . . and I found it used for $5 shipped.
I actually prefer my Pixel Fold because of the width. As for it feeling like a first Gen device, id have to disagree. It feels pretty well made but, respect your perspective. It also has many features I'm okay with. The only real issue is that Google didn't put better thought into multitasking, considering it only opens two apps at a time. I would say, if they are going the two-app multitasking, it should work more like the Surface Duo 2. When it comes to multitasking, nothing beats the Surface Duo. It's more intuitive than any other device.
Hello Vmac! Good to hear that you are well served by the Pixel Fold. I always enjoy Pixel devices, and the OnePlus is my first foldable, but if the price is right I'll certainly try a Pixel Fold 2. Especially if Google improves multitasking. I'll take your word on the Duo 2! I wish Microsoft would provide some more competition in the North American smartphone market, but it seems like that's just not a priority for them right now.
With the IP Rating and average camera system, not sure if it makes sense to invest so much.. Currently using a Google Pixel 7 Pro. Can't settle for less with images and video quality. Thoughts?
Hello Romit! I really enjoyed the 7 Pro, if you don't specifically need the features the folding display allows, I wouldn't upgrade. Video is close, maybe comparable, but it's hard to beat the Pixel at photography. The Hasselblad look is nice, but definitely subjective. I really enjoy the Open, but with your concerns and priorities--i'd stay with the 7 Pro until the Open 2 next year.
@@phonecomp I bought it :) I realised with the dual sim capability I don't have to continue using both my Google Pixel 7 Pro and One Plus 8 pro... Thanks for your inputs!

Seriously, thanks for asking.
Thank you UKNW! I tried to pack in a lot, but still keep it concise--so I didn't mention things like stylus support, even though it's technically compatible. It doesn't matter much if the stylus isn't available from OnePlus and you have to import an Oppo version.
Hello Strangelandian, it probably depends on your location and when you order, but mine came a little ahead of schedule. They sent the label for the trade-in the day I purchased and I shipped the trade-in the day I received the Open.
No, no worries. I just usually wait in case I want to transfer anything directly from my trade in device to the new device, but you can send it in anytime before the trade-in window expires. I hope you really enjoy the Open!
Hello Alkis! I don't know if I'll have time to review the Nord 3--even though I've really wanted to. I can tell you that just looking at the specs and based on previous experience with a number of OnePlus and Poco phones (including the F5)--i'd go with the Nord 3. I prefer Oxygen OS to MIUI for Poco, the Nord has an in-display fingerprint scanner, and faster charging. I'm not sure about camera performance, but I bet it's comparable unless you want a lot of GCam options. If you're going to be playing demanding games a lot, go with the F5. Anything else, I'd go Nord. Hopefully I'll get to try out the Nord 4!

I emailed and chatted and they keep saying someone will get in touch with me. Like I said the phone is great until it isn't. They're warranty and repair is horrible. They're communication for repairs is beyond horrible.
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that, Phil. Hopefully they will send you a replacement soon, but yeah--that's not the customer service you want to see after paying $1,500ish dollars for a product. If that's a consistent issue moving forward for OnePlus, then it won't matter how great their products are at launch.

Hello MJ! It is ridiculous, but after a while you forget about it. It kinda works like the Pixel camera shelf for me with my finger resting against it. Putting in your pocket takes some practice, but the footprint of the Open when closed is much more pocketable that the S23 Ultra for me. Yeah--it could have been an issue for me, but it works out fine in use.
Hey Malidan! Yes, if your top priority is a device for playing demanding games for long periods of time, the Open is not an ideal phone. Generally though, for casual gamers--my experience was fine. Even with Genshin for about 20 minutes.
No it doesn't make sense at all because you could carry two phones of your desire in the pocket one small and one big and you won't feel the thickness because they are not thicker than 6 mm today
Hello Edikaramuratful! The Open is certainly thicker, but I really don't feel much of a difference. Maybe that's just due to the closed form factor compared to larger phones like the S23 Ultra. To be sure, if you prefer smaller lighter phones like a vanilla S23 or an iPhone mini -- the OnePlus Open is a bad choice. Even the S23 base model is 7.6mm vs the Open's 11.7mm. It would feel like more of a difference going from a smaller phone to the Open, but for a lot of users--I think it's a good tradeoff. With that said, if the Open was the size of the ZFold5, I might completely agree with you. Hopefully this reply makes sense!
@@phonecomp what I meant is that with this device when you want to use a "small phone" -that is the unopened mode of it, you're actually using a thick one and probably a heavier one than a usual smartphone, and your choices are limited to oneplus open for the opens and unpened mode. The better method for me is to carry a small phone that you like the best, and another big phone you like the best. This way you'll get The Best of Both Worlds. And also when you're using the small one it will be lighter and thinner then the oneplus Open. So my idea is carrying two devices one very small and the other one very big, and they wont take space in your pocket because we all know smartphones are very thin today. Foldables have a lot of trade-offs in both opened and an opened modes but when you carry two phones you have at least eight thousand milliamp battery on you and you have two sizes for each moment you need. You need to chill with your coffee , you take your Galaxy A3 2017 out of your pocket and browse single-handed effortlessly with that light and small phone.
