And if it could be proven in court, that if the impeded access to the fire hydrant due to the illegal parking results in preventable fire damage due to the delay, anyone losing their home when it could be prevented should be able to sue the moron.
Even a small kink in a supply line can Severely reduce the water pressure this both puts the Public and firefighters lives in danger and makes it much harder to put out put out a fire
It's amazing how many non firefighters are on here explaining how the fire fighters should have connected the hose without actually knowing anything about how the fire fighters are supposed to connect the hose. If they put it under, over, around or immideatly turn to avoid the car the line can kink and reduce flow. Just DON'T park there.
Even as it is, you can still see the hose still has some kink/bend. That driver could be responsible for not enough water getting to the house that’s on fire. No excuses. As you said, just DON’T park there!
Be interesting to hear if the person parking there attempts to file a insurance claim to cover the window replacements. If they say it happened at a different location, could they get away with that or is there a proper memo added to the file of the vehicle owner that would procedurally be examined before making a decision on it? That should be checked if it isnt already.
they werent trying to prove a point.. had they run it along side the car it would have cut off half of their supply when the line was charged. That person is lucky the weight from the LDH didn't crumple their car
It's more important to damage the car by not taking the hose direct towards the fire (see pic), while victim chokes on smoke. DON'T PARK IN FRONT OF HYDRANTS!!! I'd rather be saved then have firemen waste time breaking vehicles.
Saw German fire fighters doing that to a BMW sports car. Break My Window. Or just push it out the way with the fire truck. Or winch it out the way if fire truck has a winch. Zero sympathy. Selfish.
This is the wrong message. You haven't actually talked about why. The why isn't "cuz you'll get your windows broken", The why is, explaining water flow rate, how much water is used or needed on average per minute. How having to go through our around a car can affect that and reduce the time firefighters can have the water they beef need. I'm no firefighter but even breaking the window and going thru that i see kinks in the hose that affect flow, like even that's not ideal
no I have to agree the car was wrong but I'm a firefighter and I could have easily connected and gone south with the hose as the video showed without busting a window. they just did it put of anger
It would be easier and more cost efficient to paint the spot in different color. Plus, "idiots" parking there make them more money when they are not accidentally assisting in someone burning alive. :)
Cost is indeed the main factor here. The area around the hydrant looks overgrown, which tells me that the city is not routinely maintaining the grounds. That's usually a symptom of budget cuts that result in skimping on maintenance. Besides, drivers are expected to look for nearby hydrants when they park; and this one is hard for any attentive driver to miss.
@@Carter-dv4hz The necessary raw materials are cheap, but the labor required to construct your proposed curb extensions would not be, especially when you multiply it by all the hydrants in the city. Another problem is that a curb extension would present an obstacle to _every_ vehicle, including the very fire trucks that need to park directly adjacent to the hydrant.
@@Carter-dv4hz A more practical way to achieve the same objective would be to paint the edges of the curb within the prohibited minimum distance (usually five meters) from each hydrant. This would be much cheaper compared to building curb extensions and it wouldn't block fire trucks that may need to park directly adjacent to a hydrant.
check out the picture of the hydrant. it has 3 connection for hoses. the fire department could of used the one that is shown looking away from the car. then there wouldn't be a bend in the hose. there was no need to break any windows. they just did it to spite the owner of the car. funny how everyone else doesn't see what the hydrant looks like. they don't see that there is 2 other connections that could of been used. all they want to do is crucify the car owner.
The damage to the car is likely to be covered by insurance anyway, if they have Comprehensive insurance. I am not sure if it would be covered if they have either Third Party only, or Third Party Fire and Theft.
They could have opened that door, since they broke the window, the water would have a better flow than passing thro the window xD but that dude deserved that xD

Maybe that would help out. If you see this & you could possibly be able to help out getting that done, it would be appreciated & might help solve the problem.
Drivers are expected to pay attention to their surroundings. As you can see in the photo, this hydrant isn't obscured in any way and should be impossible for any attentive driver to miss.
They could have ran hose across hood. Car owner might have parked illegally but that didn't deserve criminally breaking his windows. A parking citation at most. That was pure ego at play. Had that been my car, I'd sue the fire dept and every fireman on sight. Also demand removal of qualified immunity so they personally had to pay.
constable because it would have been more damage. Actual article states that the weight of the hose and water could of hurt car if put over. Easier and less damage through window
I want to see you push a car while in park. Remember you don't want to break a window so you can't unlock it. So you can't put it in neutral. Towing it is a better idea. Let me see for a traffic accident somedays we wait for well over an hour for a tow truck. You wouldn't mind if your house burnt for a hour or two would you? We would wash the ashes off your concreate foundation when we finally get a water supply.
