  • I hope my information helps you to decide if a sewing machine is right for you. This video is on the Leather Machine Company Cobra 26. This is a very capable leather sewing machine. The Cobra 26 can sew leather up to 7/16” thick but can still sew thin leather as well.
Purchasing the Leather Machine Company sewing machine was a huge decision that took me over two years to make. This was for a number of reasons. One reason was that I enjoy hand sewing. I find hand sewing relaxing.
I have now been using this sewing machine for one year.
One of the challenges is in sewing leathers that are softer like leather for totes and bags. Many do not have the stiffness that makes it easier to line up your stitches. This results in extended sew times. Recently, I created a leather backpack purse that just the sewing part took about 4 days…. Well anyway.
So in this video I cover the final assembly of the Leather Machine Company Cobra 26. I cover this as well as the setting up and first stitching in my shop.
I talk a little bit about why I purchased this machine as well. At this point I am going to continue to hand sew my belts as well as many other projects.
I purchased the Leather Machine Company cylinder arm sewing machine at the Heart of Texas leather industry trade show in Waco Texas. Yep purchased. I hope you enjoy following along in this next step of my leather products journey. I’m sure that there will be many frustrating projects as I learn the abilities of the Cobra 26 and the limitations of my skills.

Hi Robert, all good helpful points.
You might consider getting in touch with your local tech high school department to see if they have 3D printers. Do a sketch of the spool holders you would like and see if they could recreate your design?
    Cheers...Freddie

Thank you for sharing your opinion and experience with this machine. I don't have a machine right now but have researched this one and heard nothing but good things about it. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

I do think that there are good machines out there. Some is based on convenience and service. I sure like my 26.

I bought the cowboy CB3200. About the same price, but the bobbins are as big as they are for bigger machines (like the class 3&4 Cobra). I also like the sit down table better than the stand up. I also got a better price on the Cowboy. I talked to leather machine co, but the shipping is the real killer. I drove 1.5 hours to get my machine. Cowboy offers lots of accessory options too. Pound for pound, the Cowboy was a better buy IMO. Cowboy also has it's own line of thread, that IMO, is priced quite reasonable. I thought LMC was pretty expensive for thread. Not really a many good places to buy the heavy thread for these machines at a good price. Tandy and Weaver are pretty high priced on the thread for anything over 69/138. Once you get to 207+, it gets kinda expensive.
I love my machine too. I also own a leatherwork from Sailrite. Like that machine too for lighter flat stuff. Nothing wrong with hand sewing. I just don't want to waste all of my time sewing most projects. I sewed two belts and that was enough for me. Huge time suck sewing them. My opinion is, if you can afford a machine and can justify buying one, do it. I would also recommend a cylinder arm over a flat bed every day of the week and twice on Sunday. There isn't much of anything that a cylinder arm can't do but a flatbed gets limited quick.

Thanks for taking time to respond with good information. Yeah the shipping can be a killer. I was fortunate to be able to time getting my machine with one of the shows that they attended. So no shipping and the discount ed $100. The thread does seem expensive…. I have purchased at a show and they discount when you purchase 5 rolls. It has been 5 for $100.
It’s probably my hang up on the hand sewing of belts. I’ve gotten pretty fast and actually enjoy the process

@@InMyBusyLittleShop the rolls I saw from lmc were 8 oz spools. If the ones you bought were a pound, that's a screaming deal. They are 28 bucks a one pound spool for cowboy poly thread.

There are aftermarket tables on ETSY. they are slightly smaller but pop on and off in less than a minute.

I also have the class 26. My only complaint like you is taking off and putting on that table. I ended up making my own table out of aluminum and using clamps. Super easy solution and now it takes a few seconds to change out

That’s a good suggestion on the table. I think I might have a solution…. More to follow.
