- It is not quite the 20th anniversary yet but oh well. But here is a completion of all the deaths in the first installment of Starship Troopers (the best one).

I love how when a warrior bug is in the process of biting someone in half, they are instantly immune to all bullets like they're in a kill animation.

It's weird that this was originally seen as a B-Movie when it released yet it's CGI, action and practical effects still hold up better than a lot of modern day films.

As said: He was in shock. And future.. A bullet to the head might be recoverable with only severe facial scars and cognitive disabilities - which might be fixed with cybernetic implants.

It's only during this montage that I realized that Rico basically doomed Dizzy by pulling out the bug leg. It was keeping the wound sealed and preventing internal bleeding.

It's so weird in the fact that it's such a goofy movie, but a lot of the deaths (Dizzy especially) manage to have an emotional impact on you. It's fun and disturbing at the same time.
Verhoeven at his finest🌚RoboCop and Total Recall were made in the same way to make disgusting but at the same time hilarious satirical black comedy action movies

Dizzy's death always irritated me. Had they not yelled at her, she would have kept moving away from the threat and they could have simply opened fire on the bug.

When I was a kid I loved this movie for the action and gore. Now Im an adult and I love this movie for the context, satire and commentary. Its truly a work of art that still holds up 25 years later.
If only it was released in 2003 maybe it wouldn't be commercial bomb🌚Or in 1998(Operation Desert Fox). Of course there was Gulf War but it wasn't so famous as destroying Iraq.Dutch director knew how to make americans to realize the problem of their government(ofc it's not only american who starts a war and my country too but that's another story)

Has anyone else noticed that most Paul Verhoeven movies age really well? Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers… all still hold up really well. You can also notice the love they poured into the FX here, similar to Jurassic Park.
I've got to say, for a film made in 1997, this had amazing graphics for that year!
i still remember connecting vhs player to commodore 64 monitor to watch this. What a sweet nostalgia.

For some reason when those tower gunners get sprayed with the fire it really really hit me deep, like they stayed behind as long as they could to stop the outpost from being overrun. You can tell the director deliberately gave them a very graphic death.

The movie did show us the propaganda and horrors of war. The violence is harsh and gory yet it is actually more realistic than in most of the war movies. Such a great movie. I bet one of the most misunderstood movies also.

1:47 is the best reaction on training target ever.
0:16 everything about that Arachnid...the whole detail of the limbs and when you look close at its shell, it's bumps and patterns...so realistic and life like. This movie still holds up perfectly with its CGI effects. I can't believe I didn't end up with nightmares about this film. I must of been 9 years old when it arrived in cinemas and I remember waiting in the line for our ticket and seeing the Starship Troopers poster on the wall in the cinema.
I’m like 99% certain that the CGI there isn’t just CGI, but also a mix of the puppet. Wouldn’t surprise me if they managed to use the bigger portions of the puppet (jaws, main body, etc) and CGI’d the things like eyes and smaller limbs.
I fucking love this movie’s use of practical and CGI effects. Uses the best of both worlds.

Okay it isn’t actually Dizzy, but rather a spirit sent by Carl to troll Rico into completing the mission. Its obvious the war took a big ass toll on the guy, but seeing Rico and Dizzy casually talk about memories about highschool gave me hella closure.

This movie terrified me as a kid. I’ve never seen so much carnage in an action movie. The brain-sucking bug freaked me out the most.
These action scenes still hold up today, though!
Edit: It just now occurred to me…why do they bother wearing that heavy armor? (That armor SUCKS!) The bugs can clearly slice, impale and bite right through it like butter, and they’re clearly not bullet-proof. lol

Because it depends on the situation. A generic marine can waste all of their ammo on a single bug, while a main character who's making their last stand can take out 1 per bullet. Or in sugar Watkins' case, hundreds with a single nuke.

For me, it's not that I'm scared of gore and violence. I just hate to see people getting hurt in gruesome ways and I can't help but put myself in their shoes. No matter how hard I try to disassociate. Our bodies are the only thing we got. I'm so glad I never watched this movie as a kid. I never would have recovered.

This movie is still in my top 10. A movie done in the 90s it's done so freaking well.

Later on it appears they got better ammunition or something. And despite how it appears, they dont take that many casualties on screen. The much bigger issue is the utter lack of tactical air support/artillery and armored vehicles
Its possible to kill the bugs in just one burst, maybe less.
The problem is the infantry's training was just so shit and the command couldnt be bothered to actually train them to shoot for the nerve stem so they sorta just sprayed and fired at the thing till it died
@@KriegCommisar I think they abandoned vehicles because they're geared up for a war vs humans, where shoulder fired weapons can carry nukes, so they went 1950s US nuke army where one rifle is meant to service every weapon platform (M14 and its variants) and nukes do the rest. They rely on air assault which doesn't work against bugs who don't have fear of being wounded or killed.
Needed those 3 armour and 3 weapon upgrades.

While, at the same time, more important disciplines go out the window
I remember I was randomly introduced to this movie as a little girl, it became my favorite of all time. Even though I was too little to understand the themes (and too little to be allowed to see the nudity) something about it kept me rapt in attention. The sequels don't deliver in plot, but the concepts and effects (especially in 3) make up for it.

The final death was my favourite, because he went out like a bad ass before he blew himself up. Going as much as far as taunting them.
This death always stuck out to me, and it’s a shame this movie never even did as well as I actually thought it did back in the day, apparently this was a major flop, but I can swear as a kid, I remember this being everywhere, the marketing was amazing and legit everywhere for what was classified as a B Movie back then.
I must have rented this movie a solid twenty times as well from Blockbuster, so it boggles my mind how it flopped.

Starship Troopers happened to come around the same time a little film coming out as well: “Titanic “. The rest is history. Although I saw Starship Troopers in the theater as well and it was great. The effects still hold up today. Hats off to the special effects team for this movie. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Awww...this is a classic movie. I remembered when I watched this in a very young age.(like 6 years old) It was scary but found it enjoyable to watch as an adult
Of course, the first thing any EMT, Doctor, paramedic, etc. will tell you in the case of impalement like at 5:25, NEVER remove what's actually impaled because you can actually cause the person to bleed out.
This movie has better gore effects than most movies and tv shows these days.

Yeah it's kind of a litmus test of people's level of education. Growing up in a small town everyone thought this movie was legit 100% serious--or even an allegory for [insert war America fought in here]! Glad I left home.

Imagine being 4 years old and watching this movie, that was me, it was a little bit traumatic but not enough to make me stop watching it, at the end I was having existential crisis because of the girl’s death, now I feel good nostalgia, good movie that’s for sure.

Im blown away on how great the effects still hold up today, like better than most.
I am the only one who thinks that if Rico didn't remove the serrated claw from her body she could have been saved. That claw being stuck in her was probably the only thing stopping Dizzy from bleeding out.

Movie was so ahead of its time. Really a great timeless masterpiece looking back lol
The combination of CG and practical effects really sells the deaths in this films, the impacts and gore really feel so much better than what we see with the floaty video game like effects we see now.
