    My Nana used to tell me the story of when she was about16 and her dad told her to stay in the cart but the horse was spooked and nanna had to grab the reins and wrestled the horse back under control and trotted it back to the store. She said her dad was so proud of her. There is much more to the story but I always loved hearing her tell it. Especially the bit where her dad turns to the dude next to him and says "see no reason why a lady can't drive."

      Dragon maid I assume based on your username that after this incident, your family went from driving horses to riding dragons

    I'm sure a cart was a welcome treat for a servant who was on their feet all day.

    As I have some minor hearing difficulties, I love the closed captioning. It seem to have been done by a human rather than voice recognition software. It actually makes sense! instead of being a garble of nonsense. Thank you!

    We had a governess cart for my cob, they're actually pretty dangerous as you can only get in & out at the back. So the driver is completely stuck if the pony bolts (my Dad had this happen to him, my pony somehow threw his bridle off. Luckily he trotted straight home without incident), you also need a groom to hold the shafts at the front down when getting in & out to stop it tipping backwards. I'm glad we didn't have that cart for long!

    Oh I wish we could go by little pony cart like this today! I can't drive a car but I have had riding lessons. I would have loved to learn how to drive a charming little pony like Milo, and get about in a smart cart for errands. Leaving these ponies and carts behind ISN'T progress!

    • @OzarkRose
      @OzarkRose 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You actually can buy a governess cart today, but they are pretty expensive. You would also need to buy an already trained horse or pony if you are inexperienced with driving. I would Google for a horse driving instructor near you. They can teach you everything you need to know for having such a setup with an animal.

    i was just wondering, is the actor left handed? i noticed that she held the reins in her left hand. or maybe it's something that all drivers are supposed to do? i know squat about horses.
    also, what is the whip (or whatever it's called) in her right hand used for? she didn't use it in the video, so i was just curious.

    • @eaglefeather246
      @eaglefeather246 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Often, a whip is never actually used except as a visual cue to the horse to encourage it to move faster. You don't need to touch the horse - just giving the whip a bit of a flick and wave behind the horse will make it want to get away, and so it quickens it's pace.

    • @علياحمد-ص1ف1س
      @علياحمد-ص1ف1س 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why did she hold a whip ?

    • @equestriandaisy7127
      @equestriandaisy7127 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      to encourage the horse to go forwards, like when you are lunging a horse especially a lazy one (like some of mine) you may need to have a whip to wave behind the horse to make them to go forward - the same applies to driving a horse.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside from the obvious, it's useful to chase dogs away from the horse/pony.

    • @wholeNwon
      @wholeNwon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      She's doing it correctly if right handed.

    • @Simbel88

      "IT" won't hurt the horse if YOU don't hurt the horse. Also seemingly you do not have a clue how to drive a cart, just want to troll. :)

      Mel Bonthuys what’s wrong with a whip?

    • @KateRobinson1961
      @KateRobinson1961 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Remember that when you are in the cart, you cant use your legs way a rider does, to increase horses speed up through the paces....the driving whip takes place of riders legs, you arent thrashing horse with it, 9 times out of 10, you either just flick it out over horse/pony as you use your voice, the other time, if they arent paying attention a light tap on the bum gets them moving on....you never want a driving horse to be scared of the whip, so you arent ever going to hurt them with it....
