Milk actually does work to get ink stains out, especially fresh ones. If you have a leaking pen on some clothes, blot and scrub with milk. The casein protein binds to the ink and takes it out.

People like to think of old timey lords as tyrants but that doesn't paint a complete picture. They wouldn't want to look cheap to outsiders. They were also expected to feed the poor of the area they ruled. This was so common that nobility were discouraged from eating bread for a large part of history as that was to be given to anyone who came to the gate asking for food. There wasn't a law about it but if you were stingy with money rumours would spread that you were not doing well financially. Servants were the best spies so you wanted to maintain a good reputation in their community. A smart lord wanted his peasants to think life was best under him and not betray him to others.

Sarah, is that the same girl who lends Mrs. Crocombe a laundry tub for making mince pie?
yes! I do believe these characters are meant to be recreations in honor of the real workers who lived and cared for the estate. Or at least I'm almost certain I read that Mrs. Crocombe is
This series has better continuity than many sitcoms lol
@Ratih Sanitri - Great catch!
Ooooooooooh the lore is expanding
I wish we could see more of Mrs Warwick! What I love about this English Heritage project is the departure of the anthropocentric approach of classical history and be able to discover the common folks that were the true force that shaped history.
Remember it's the cogs that keep the wheels Turning. It's the low paid that keep things ticking over. The rich live on their investments. Which we have experienced in 2020/21
Me: I have so much clothes to wash, dry, and iron for this week 😔😭.....
English Heritage: Hold my basin!.. Would you like to a trip to the laundry??
Me: ...................
It's a wonder anything gets sun bleached, the amount of shade that woman is throwing.
The “Quelle Horreur” cracks me everytime
I knew I shouldn’t have asked about the washing machine. 🤦🏽♂️
See....I told you it was a bad idea. Why didn't you listen to me?
Lol
"How do you think we bleach the cloth?"
Me: With Clorox
or very strong light!
Huh?
4:40 Girl, you're throwing so much shade your linens will never be white.
I would have failed this interview, massively.
I think we're did
Same lmao
I would’ve run away!
You did.
I think it went down the drain with that washing machine question
I hope I get hired. She really put me through the wringer.
Did you get mangled?
It’s amazing to think that what would have taken them days to do, now only takes a few hours, modern machinery is a wonder.
Huge respect to all those women who used to do all the laundry by hand, it looks like extremely hard work.
Lord, grant me the confidence of Mrs. Warwick being dismissive of an applicant.
Amen.
They should have a mini series where she shows us how to clean various stains because I need more of her
I'm a simple guy, I see that English Heritage uploaded and I click!
"We'll let you know..." Hmmm, that look in her eyes says I am not getting this position.
I cannot believe how entertaining that was and educational about what laundry was methodically about in households of these era. I love it!!!
It's autumn now, can we please have more about the gardeners harvesting and preparing the gardens for winter?
Or Mrs Crocombe canning and preserving?
She said in a video a while back that canning and preserving are lower servants duties, she is basically the head chef and she has her sou chefs do less skilled jobs.
How on Earth do you manage to use 600 towels a week!?
well these houses had more than 20-30 people only as staff plus family members...so it was like a small hotel
plus blankets, sheets, pillow cases, not to mention clothes for all those people working for the lord and lady, the lord and lady, family, eeek no wonder it took all week to do the laundry.
No paper towels back then.
SEELE ONE
It became clearer when she mentioned that they were responsible for the laundry of _all_ of the Braybrooks’ houses, not just that of Audley End. (I can imagine why they didn’t want to dry the laundry from the townhouse in London!)
Easy when you dont have to do the laundry
Victorian working women have shot right to the top of my list of scariest people because of these videos.
(for real though, the acting on this channel is fantastic)
Oh my, I am captivated by Mrs Warwick! I would very much like to see more of her and hear about her work at Audley End!
My mom is a housekeeper and this feels like I'm having a conversation with her and asking for advice. Good to know nothing changed in nearly 200 years in this aspect.
We didn’t get the job did we?
Well, it's been over 200 years so, probably not...
SEELE ONE
It’s set in 1881, which is 138 years ago.
I am afraid we did not.
So we can wait for more 62 years.
Nope!
"Do you want to be out of a job?"
I hope to think no one will forget this line as it is very very true in our reality today more than ever.
I could watch a drama about Mrs Warwick and Mrs Crocombe exchanging shade, gossip and tips all day...
her: "how would you deal with ink stains"
me: "scoop of Vanish in the washer"
*deer in headlights* ....I don't k-k-k-know ma'am...
me too LOL, I did not expect the buttermilk though
Shawnie Lynch Cuss and throw it away if it doesn’t come out with oxi-clean spray!
I have heard people using milk for ink stains before. I actually answered her question and most likely still got it wrong in her eyes lol.
I do like the interaction part where she waits for a reply.
I said “vinegar” or “urine” like a fool
Lol of course the answer was “buttermilk”
The shade... *one country house that shall be nameless* 😂😂😂😂😂
Quelle horreuuur...
She is kind as well as strict about what needs to be done. She is amazing.
5:22 "You only pick up an iron without an iron cloth once"
*breathes and looks at me in mockery knowing I would do that*
Darn, I don't think I got the job :(
You would have to mention a washing machine to the Head of Laundry dear! 😉😄
mrclueuin I know, I need to think before I speak sometimes :P
@@CelesStrife lol Well, maybe Ms. Crocombe will put in a good word for you! 😊
