Btw my headcanon here is that Miss Willoughby and Mrs. Crocombe are twins separated at birth. Daughters of one of the maids, Miss Willoughby was taken in by friends of the family who were childless. They have crossed paths in comical ways many times but never are able to actually see one another, and since the help is not thought of much, no one has ever noticed the resemblance. Only the lady of the house actually knows about that heartbreaking night so many years ago...
:*(
Ah, a well developed imagination, Brew. There may exist, perhaps, the probability that there is a triplet to the two, too...she inhabits a forgotten garret in the gatehouse and in her solitary existence she writes the tomes that have created the world of Mrs. Willoughby and Crocombe, as well as the universe in which you and I imagine we dwell....[shudder]...YOU are that triplet, aren't you, Witch's Brew?
How dare you insinuate that my creative writing is some form of autobiographical account. If cars existed in my time I'd run you over!
"Writes the tomes that created the world of Mrs. Willoughby and Crocombe..."? Mrs. Crocombe was a real person though ...

Audley End House Season 2: Ms. Crocombe marries a nobleman
Hahahhaa
This is amazing xD
The fastest way to to a man's heart is through his stomach.
FOR THIS RIDE YOU WILL NEED.........
Saddle
Or a side saddle.
💀💀💀💀💀💀
A strong groom who knows what he is doing.
Ketchup
MRS. CROCOMBE WHAT ARE YOU DOING OUT OF THE KITCHEN AND WHY ARE THEY CALLING YOU MRS. WILLOUGHBY?!?!?
THENYCFANGIRL
Shes playing a diffrent character in this video.
lol.......so funny!
Twins separated at birth, daughters of a maid, one is taken in by the wealthy but childless Willoughbys. Only lady Braybrooke and lady Willoughby know the truth of that sad night so many years ago. You can read all about it in my upcoming expose novel "The Other Side of The Lookinglass: The Lives and Lies at Audley End." 😂
Witch's Brew
Oh ny god.Id actully read that.
Can this really be thing?!
Side saddle has to be for those blessed with excellent balance. I can just see myself falling off with the first leap lol.
In some ways, side saddle is MORE secure. Clamping the two heads between your legs is much easier than trying to grip the sides of an "aside" saddle, since you are actually wrapping your upper leg around the post, and lower leg under another. The down side is that if you DO come off, you are in less control of your fall, and more likely to land badly.
and a terrible lower back pain
not true - actually, the pommels do the balancing for you. It is more difficult to fall off ( though not impossible...), and your seat is much more secure over the jumps, going down, or when the horse spooks to the side. I ride both, and feel much more secure aside!
yes - a muscle pain if you havent done it before. you will feel your first lesson in your core muscles and the glutes, but once the muscles are strenghtened, it is fine - just like with any other sports. just like the lower back muscles or inner tights for astride. also, corsets help a lot with lower back anyway....
Maeglin the Lost me and my friend tried side saddle.....without a saddle 😂😂 It did not go well😂
I'm convinced everyone at Audley End during that time looked like Mrs. Crocombe. The cook, the guests riding sidesaddle, the maids, the gardeners, the butlers, and both Lady and Lord Braybrooke.
Its all this marrying of cousins- no wonder they all look the same!
The actresses name is Kathy Hipperson in case anyone wants to know. Also that woman can ride side saddle, with stays on, and a golden eagle on her arm in Tudor Dress. Be impressed people, be VERY impressed. It’s not that easy to ride side saddle, and the saddles themselves are more expensive then standard saddles.
Very expensive, she trained falconer an rider... This is what she does period acting .. what a great job... More convincing than some popular shows... I'd say... ✌🏼💗😊❣️
A pure maths degree must’ve been a doddle then! Another of Ms Hipperson’s achievements.
Mrs Croscrombe had moved up in the world.
Oh so she's not a cook anymore
She's an actress playing a different role.
@@SanaSamaha no shit sherlock
Wouldn't it be a romantic idea that a warmhearted, kind and wealthy Mr Willoughby was so enchanted with Miss Crocombe's cooking that he simply had to make her his wife? Perhaps after having learned his lesson from jilting young Miss Dashwood and enduring a horrible marriage of convenience??? ;-)
As a long-time equestrian, I've got to say you have to be pretty damn talented and brave to canter and jump side-saddle! Amazing! And the horses look SO well cared for (:
I loved their hindquarters with the historical emblem...
Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria! 🦄🦄🦄
And one of them was hogged, nothing to grab hold of if all goes pear shaped !!
Is that the same actress form the cooking series? Love her!
Yes it is, her name is Kathy Hipperson.
English Heritage are u going to continue her cooking segments
Serena Archibald they did a new one
Alexia Vasquez I saw it ❤️ thanks tho
Serena Archibald oh 😊
i wish there was a video explaining how do the legs work but without the dress.... i couldn´t figure it out
Perhaps an idea for the future? Thanks very much.
I wish I was a seamstress I think the question was more about how to get your right leg over the pommel. I can't figure that out either with all that fabric covering the legs.
If you're getting on the horse from the left side (and the pommel is on the left side of the saddle, like in the video. I'm saying left because if you stood behind the horse, it would be on the left), the right leg, which would normally swing over the other side of your horse, rests over the fixed head, which is the bigger pommel at the top. You squeeze this with the underside of the right thigh. Then, the other leg rests under the leaping pommel (the smaller, slightly curved and thinner pommel) and you squeeze it with the upper left thigh. The dress has more fabric in the sides to enable the woman riding the horse to lift that right leg without having to lift all her skirts up. Essentially, they sit on the back portion of theirs skirts and the front portion covers the pommel. When mounting up, they sit behind the pommel and lift the right leg over it once mounted. This is why they have more fabric in their riding skirts, to enable them to lift that right leg without lifting their skirt and showing off their legs because without it, they'd be sitting on all the fabric and not be able to lift the leg over the pommel. Dunno if that helps all! >__
Holyfiremolotov It does! I cant help but wonder, since the two legs are using totally different muscles...if a lady was very fond of riding, would this eventually make her thighs have a totally different muscles that are moat developed? What an odd thought
nessagirl1911 Holyfiremolotov
There's two styles of mounting: mount astride, then swing your leg over (demonstrated by the gal in the video titled 'Rescue Pony Shanly is Side Saddle Star') and an assisted mount. For the full skirts, it requires an assisted mount. But if you have a later habit, they have an "apron" that buttons in the back, allowing freedom of movement for either mounting style. Looked something like this pic: i.pinimg.com/originals/e6/d1/4b/e6d14b81747f215c8e386377b7efcc98.jpg
The apron had a panel in the back that was long enough to sit on while riding so others wouldn't see the trousers. When out of the saddle, the apron wrapped all the way around to form a skirt that mimicked the straighter skirt styles of the time. Hope that helps! :)
Side saddle's not actually as difficult as it looks, it's just like sitting up with one leg crossed over the other. You just have to remember to keep your pelvis facing directly forward so you don't twist your back and unbalance the horse. The seat is more cushioned than a normal saddle so it's actually pretty comfy! And harder to fall off.
groovypullet it is HARDER to fall off of than a regular saddle? Really? I would never have guessed!
But if you do fall off, you're breaking a leg.
@@melissasaint3283 Your legs are more "pinched" in place, if that makes sense. Regular saddle you are rather loosely draped over the horses back, and can't get a very secure squeeze going. With side saddle you have more to hold on to with your legs. Not sure if I'm making any sense at all...
Yes, I quite liked riding sidesaddle!
@@granolagirl4972 complete sense
the horseman is summertime fine 😍
Mrs. Crocombe leads a double life
Oh, this must be from just before I started watching English Heritage and especially the Mrs. Crocombe videos!
What fun, to see the actress in a different role. She certainly plays the noblewomen as convincingly as the cook. I would very much enjoy videos showing a wider cast of characters...or at least a comeback of some of the side characters like the undergardener or maids.
Oh how beautiful! There’s nothing like the freedom you feel when galloping in a open field.
Ik love how they "branded" the horse. In stead of burning IT they simply shaved it
That horse has an English Heritage tramp stamp and i'm 1000% here for it.
What a wonderful display of control and grace! The horses were a lovely sight too!
This is one of my fav channels on TH-cam, I enjoy spending some time here .
Its Mrs Crocombe's twin sister haha! I love these videos - despite being short, they are informative!
So glad you brought her back
But why does Lady Braybrooke's niece look like their cook tho 😂
Same actress
@@DonnyDunne lol😂😂
Lady Braybooke's brother once had a fun wine and dine ages ago. 😉
Ms. Hipperson rides again! May I say, you have quite a fan following. You are an asset to English Heritage!
Miss Willoughby has a shiner!
That chestnut horse is absolutely stunning! What breed is it?
That’s Harvey, he’s an Irish Cob and is 20 years old. People love meeting him when they visit Audley as he’s one of our resident horses.
English Heritage Thanks!
He looks like an Irish X Welsh section a
Looks almost like a Clydesdale. I know the other is an Irish Cob.
The chestnut is a cob.Cob is a type of horse not a breed.
Definitely Need Skills To Ride a Horse Side Saddle. I Can Just Manage To Ride in The Standard Upright Position. These Women Have Got Skills To Be Able To Ride From The Side. This Channel is Totally Awesome. 😀
To those complaining about this being unsafe. I must educate you. This is MUCH safer than riding astride and It’s actually much more secure than riding astride. I’ve ridden, Western and English and I’ve ridden both astride and aside in each style. Riding sidesaddle afforded me much more confidence and security in the saddle thanks to the pommels! As a man I currently ride only aside if I have a choice. I have had to have back surgery and I just can’t take the chance of being thrown out of the saddle so riding sidesaddle with the pommels makes the most sense. Riding astride the only thing that keeps you in the saddle is your thighs on the sides of the animal. Riding aside you have the pommels to grip onto which are attached to the saddle which is then strapped to the horse. Anyone saying that sidesaddles are unsafe are severely ignorant or willfully stupid.
I'm sorry to say that you are wrong in one particular; the ladies' dresses.
Look at them pretty ponies prancing through nature!! I have always wanted to ride like that!!
You could ride over my back like human pony play
Look at all the love for Mrs Crocombe 😄
I'd love more riding and horse related videos with the groom John Barker, he's very charming!
I love this. What a beautiful rider she is. Amazing. I am so glad for this community. Thank you.
THE CLIPPING ON THE FLANK GUYS I REPEAT THE CLIPPING ON THE FLANK!!!! it's the english heritage logo awwww
Ooh. Lovely. Strikes me a little different from my absolutely chaotic cling-to-the-horse-for-dear-life type of riding. Spectacular.
0:15 That estate looks incredible.
No lady, you're Avis Crocombe in disguise >.>
Does this woman do side saddle riding?
I love both horses in the video. Absolutely beautiful
I've been there and the woman we know as Mrs Crocombe is in fact a great riders and demonstrated hunting side saddle as well, the cook is one character but riding is really her thing
Beautiful riding!...and such lovely horses!
Very clever ladies. Excellent horsemanship required.
I hope you didn't forget to bring the candied peel and Angelicurr
She looks lovely in her lavender riding gear!
The elegance of side-saddle riding!
Magnificent animals! So lovely. Wish I could visit. Say I keep thinking I'm hearing a little Irish brogue Ms. Willoughby is it? Am I dreaming? Thankyou!😍🇬🇧🐴🐎🐾
Mrs Crocombe looks like an actual horse woman. Her riding form is very good!
Wait... they had gopro in Victorian England? Hehehe
really interesting seeing a time being re enacted I guess the people they were in the role of were at least 1 of the families to have owned the property in times past
Ahhh beautiful! Nice to see the old ways promoted. Classy.
I love this series! And this lady is amazing!
I could see this still be an excellent way to ride for those with disabilities.
I'm autistic and can't ride sidesaddle... I did try at a summer camp though... Nearly fell off my (less than impressed) horse. I don't ride 'English' though b/c IMHO that's for wimps
My head cannon is Mrs Crocombe leads a double life. One as Avis Crocombe and one as Miss Willoughby
LOVE the logo clip on the rump, detail!!!
"Good Morning, my name is Miss Willoughby"
*Talks and sounds like Mrs. Crocombe*
Me: very SuSpicIouS
Those horses are stunning!
I wanna do that sometime in my near life!
Go for it Mandi. You only live once.
look up prior attire. she shows the riding habit and how the side saddle works. great video!!
Muy elegante y glamorosa época
Ms. Crocombe's twin XD
Love all your videos and nice to see you doing something a little more fancy.
I’m onto you Mrs. Crocombe
Also when I ride horses I much prefer to ride bareback than on a forward saddle or side-saddle.
Very nice
Our girl got a promotion! XD
That surprised look
Love seeing you out of the kitchen!
It's fun to see Kathy out of her Mrs. Crocombe character for a change.
Miss Willoughby is a charming lovely woman, I'd love to see more videos of her. Much love
This reminds me of my first time ever riding a horse as a kid. I was sweating and terrified coz the horse was so tall😂
You could ride over my back like human horse
omg, that pov horse ride. I never realized it was so scary lol
I enjoy these so much!
Her resemblance to Mr. Cromombe is uncanny. 😂
You can't beat a lovely handsome cob.
They definitely didn’t think Mrs. Crocombe would get as popular as she did. Jokes on them we’re absolutely turnt on Mrs. Crocombe and WE WANT HER BACK!!!!
Miss Willoughby always checks the girth and straps before mounting a groom.
wow they seem so elegant while riding those horses! is side saddle still exist now?
Devika
I beleive so.Its not needed much anymore now that its acceptable for girls to ride astride saddle.
Audley End (where this is filmed) has a dedicated group who show a lot of side saddle riding - Victorian style. There are also "modern" side saddle groups as part of the horse enthusiasts community. Its still very much an interest. It was at the turn of the century (19th to 20th) that women were more commonly starting to ride astride as a matter of course, but its also likely that women have been riding astride for centuries anyway - if one is a working woman and needs to ride for some reason (eg to take ones horse with produce to market - easier to ride and have baskets attached that to attach to a cart.)
When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth rode in the Trooping of the Colour, she rode sidesaddle. www.gettyimages.com/photos/queen-elizabeth-ii-trooping-the-colour-1981?mediatype=photography&phrase=queen%20elizabeth%20ii%20trooping%20the%20colour%201981&sort=mostpopular
These days, she only rides privately and astride. She rides in a carriage at the Trooping.
Thank you for your wonderful material. Brilliant presentation. You've gotten a subscriber out of me.
Huzzah
Love her and your videos
I just love these videos!
Amazing!
my spine had a cramp watching this. how did women do that????
NU KWUTCH and while wearing a corset and voluminous floor length gown!
you sit yourself so that the twist is in your hips and your pelvis (and by extension spine) is straight
Those lady's eyebrows tho! But I love these videos, very informative 😊
who's *that* guy ?
I love these videos
I want to learn how to ride a horse now... And I want to ride a horse side saddle... It looks so elegant.
Maybe I am wrong but it really doesn't look comfortable. I also can't imagine it is good for the spine to experience all the impact while sitting at such an odd angle.
The Braebrooks are black?! YAASSS I had no idea!
No Need I don't think that's Lady Braybrooke as she's supposed to be an older lady. She's definitely someone with a high rank tho, so i agree, YAASSS
@@amyf5066 I got the impression she was Augusta, the Braybrookes' daughter
It struck me for a loop too! But then not all blacks were slaves in western spaces, and many did own estates in various countries. But i think the lady was portraying Augusta, their daughter.
I'm an equestrian and I'm literally amazed by how this is actually possible. 🤪🤪🤪
I didn't know there was a special side saddle... 😍
That's Mrs Crocombe
Are they continuing her cooking segments?
+Serena Archibald We have a new recipe video with Mrs Crocombe coming very soon.
English Heritage yay!
is that that same groom from the last one about horses? Or are they all just that beautiful?
This place is not far from me lovely old pile.
Oh, Hehehehehe Mrs. Crocombe.
Thank you.
Beautiful beasties.
"... a strong spring from you, and he helps guide you into his bed"
That groom is a snack.
This is Mrs ctocomb in disguise I’m shook
Fue una hermosa época
The horse groom is really handsome
