    Vader knew he had a son because the rebels were spreading it around that a young pilot named Skywalker, son of a Jedi, destroyed the Death Star. And Vader knew of only one Jedi named Skywalker.

    • @andrewhart9310
      @andrewhart9310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah, it seemed kind of obvious to me, given that no one ever bothered to change their names. Vader fights Obi Wan, who is running around with this force-sensitive kid, whom Vader later learns is named Skywalker and pilots an X-Wing to destroy the death star.
      Not too hard to put those pieces together. Doesn't need to happen on screen.

    • @stevegallo8483
      @stevegallo8483 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Vader knew he had a son, because the Emperor told him about the "son of Skywalker" in Empire. Remember when the Emperor via hologram summoned Vader about a great disturbance in the force. That disturbance was Luke.

    • @andrewhart9310
      @andrewhart9310 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@stevegallo8483 My broader point was that I don't think he even needed that from the Emperor at that point. IIRC, Vader didn't display any surprise about the "son of Skywalker." It was more like, "Yes, mmhmm. Yup. Got it, boss."
      If he had no idea at that point that he had a son, I would have expected a serious head fake, a "What" ... something. It was pretty easy for Vader to piece it all together without needing on-screen exposition. The Emperor pointing it out fits with that logic already. Perhaps he told him previously (off-screen) in more detail, but it hardly matters. :)

    I have no issue with small things like how Phasma escaped, C-3PO's arm, etc, being explained outside of the films as these are not really intregral to the plot. I actually enjoy it when these little bits are fleshed out in book or comic form as it enriches the overall universe. I do, however, have big issues with huge plot elements like Palpatine's return being left completely unexplained on screen. That's just bad writing.

    You know, my big problem with episode IX wasn't really how it brought the previous big bad back without any explanation. I could have lived with them pulling a "The Master" ressurection if there was any previous hint or indication that he was going to show up. It was more the way the whole thing seemed to say "you know all that stuff that went on in the last two movies you watched? Yeah well, we're not doing that anymore, here's something else."
    There was no buildup or foreshadowing whatsoever to any of the major elements of that movie, and precious little even for small things. So instead of concluding the trilogy they had, I could only assume they decided for some reason they had to write the ending to a different trilogy.
    And it looked like it could have been an interesting story, but it wasn't, because they had forgotten that important little bit of storytelling where they actually tell the story.

      No, the EU was a much bigger mess that what we have got now. There have been great stories but there also have been very weak stories and many contradictions. Disney did the right thing by declaring the whole EU not canon. The many problem with the sequel trilogy is that they did not have a complete story for all three movies and every director could do what he wanted. It is interesting that there is hardly any new material for the sequel era. They know that fans hate it, so they concentrate on those eras fans love.
      Before you say anything about how great the EU was, please remember that there was no creative control in the early years. The Thrawn-trilogy was written at the same time as the Dark Empire-trilogy but the writers of both trilogies did not communicate with each other and thus both trilogies contradict eachother. And this is just one example from the early years. Although they tried to fix the mistakes they've made, they did not succeed and the mess got bigger and bigger. And the reason is quite simple: they considered every novel and every comic and every computer game canon, even if they contradict each other. How many stories about the Deathstar plan did the EU have? It was possible to save the EU. They simply had to declare which part of it is canon and which is not. But at the time The Clone Wars was broadcast, because with this show every single novel or comics taking place during the clone wars suddenly was not canon anymore. That's the reason that removing the EU from Star Wars canon was a very good thing, because they could start with a blank slate which allowed much more creative freedom and new stories to tell.

    Speak for yourself about certain 'mysteries' being decades in the coming. Some of these questions WERE answered by the old EU, which was canon, before it was eliminated.
    For instance, Luke's hand and saber was indeed found by Palpatine, who took it to his secret base on Wayland. Years later, the cloned jedi C'baoth found the hand and lightsaber and created a clone Luke to be his apprentice.
    Also, the canon Shadows of the Empire multimedia event explained what happened to Han. The heroes chased Boba Fett around for several months, before Boba eventually made it to Jabba's Palace. Also... Jabba didn't need to have an auction for it, since he had already placed a bounty on Han Solo, and Boba Fett, being a bounty hunter, was collecting on it.

    When Luke enters Leia’s cell on the Death Star he says “I’m Luke Skywalker, I’m here to rescue you…. I’m here with Ben Kenobi…., yada, yada”.

    10. Disney writers stupidity. Not that it matters, that is not Star Wars anyway.
    9. What long? ROTJ is just a couple of weeks after TESB, not a year! And listening to that incredibly ridiculous nonsense explanation makes the ears of people with brains bleed.
    8. Clearly after the destruction of the Death Star, the name Skywalker becomes well known, and after two minutes of investigation he can be tied to Tatooine and Owen Lars.
    7. Slowly dissolved in the gravitational center of Bespin.
    6. What an asanine question. Because it is droid of mass production. Who the hell would recognize a long lost remote controller anyway?
    5. They are the completely unnecessary useless nonsense in a horribly made movie trilogy.
    4. At that point, no sane Star Wars fan actually cares.
    3. Palpatine died on the Death Star. Completely. Confirmed by George Lucas, Ian McDiarmid and Marcia Lucas, who's idea was the explosion. No resurrection possible.
    2. That is a story for another day? Another movie? Another BS? Who cares?
    1. Easy. By killing them. There is no other way. The Force is created by all living things. It is part of life. Anyone cut from the Force is cut from life.
    And no, Mace Windu never said that. He said the Jedi's ability to use the Force has diminished by the Dark Side. That is not cutting them off.
    And it is not Palpatine's doing. It is a side effect, because the nature of the Force. Yin-yang. If one side gets stronger the other side's strength diminishes.
    No mysteries. No good answers.

    You can tell that the franchise has jumped the shark when people start magically returning Luke's hand to plots. Thing is, it's made totally clear where his hand went in ESB, when you see it falling away into the clouds after Luke lands on the vane underneath the city. Yep, the hand and the lightsaber it was holding was eventually crushed in the core of Bespin, so it's impossible to find it ever again. Even Lucas was wise enough not to have it pop up again somewhere. Ah well, the franchise has jumped so many sharks by now what's another to go with them!

    Characters from the prequels not recognizing R2D2 can be more easily explained by the absolute indifference and/or hatred of Droids. There are very few characters in the entire Saga that seem to have any emotional connection to droids. Even Luke in A New Hope, seemed rather indifferent to R2 and 3PO seeing them as an inconvenience rather than new friends/acquaintances. It was only after some dangerous adventures together that Luke developed any connection to the two droids and even then he heavily favored R2 over 3PO.
    Luke was just one example, but you see the indifference all over the Star Wars Universe with the same theme. Most people just do not consider Droids important enough to have an emotional connection with them and they are not seen as sentient beings worth risking your life over. Is it any wonder so many beings have no recollection of R2 and 3PO?
    The real question is: Why hasn't R2 told anyone what it has seen? It obviously could have told Luke it knew Yoda in the past, or that it use to run around with a Jedi named Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano. R2 is the true mystery of Star Wars.

    Fell into lava
    Stayed hidden on Tatooine for 14 years
    A Sith and a Jedi basically played ping pong with it using the force
    Almost fell into an abyss

He hardly had any contact with R2 and they have certainly not been friends. What is actually more surprising is that R2 did not recognize Yoda and tell Luke about him, at the latest, when Yoda was actually in front of them.

    This is such BS all the way. - Star Wars is from the prequels forward just a series of missed opportunities. Since we re-boot everything why can't we reboot Star Wars from when it started to get corny, ie. the prequels. (they'll still make money). If we keep JJ Abrams and his (mystery-box-dramaturgy) out of it and Rian Johnson as well. Instead engage those who's done good Star War stories such as The Mandalorian and (Genndy Tartakovsky's) Clone Wars.
    I picture something like the new Suicide Squad but with less graphic violence (because of the young audience). For the prequels skip the whole senate debate storyline and tell an adventure without so much exposition. For the sequels, write actually believable storylines that make you suspend disbelief instead of activating it.

    In "The New Republic" novels written by Timothy Zhan, Luke's hand is used to create a clone, that they called Luuke. This clone is a key element with Mara Jade and her hypnotic command dealt by Palpatine for her to kill Luke, although Palpatine is at that time supposedly dead. As in a combat involving Luke, Luuke and Mara, just when Mara slayed Luuke instead of Luke, the hypnotic command vanished and she regained full control of herself.
