Happy New Year, Phil. I am in USA that is why I am telling you this so late. I have plenty of time to practice, but not the chops. I am a comeback player and have so much to come back to I almost feel I do not know where to begin. I think I will start a program of lip flexibilités. I feel I am centering sound pretty well. I just cannot play for very long. In order to get through what I must play in church, I have had to go from a 3C Bach mouthpiece to a 10 1/2C Bach mouthpiece. I am still getting a good sound (The minister of Music says so and he is a brass man), but I am not satisfying myself sound wise. There isn’t the fullness that I used to have. I have been doing overtone studies and when fresh can reach Double C, but it does not last very long. Plus, I have overtones that are not being produced, gaps I would call them. Do you think that flexibilités is where I should begin? I would like to have the fat tone I once had, but I cannot do a mouthpiece change at this time. I am hoping that I can regain some endurance and then make my mouthpiece change. Sorry to hit you with all of this. I have beenpracticing in 20 to 30 minute blocks on a little of everything and I feel like a chicken with his head cut off as to what is most important. Have a great day, Phill, and keep up the great works. You sound awesome.
Hi Dave, I completely understand where you’re coming from. I am all too often aware of how easy it is to feel lost with out practice. This is why I have been writing out practice routines and sharing them. Have a look at my 10 minute practice routine and also my flexibilities #2 based on your level of playing. You can get them from my website below. www.philloneill.com/the-operatic-trumpet/
