Interesting. I have two properties across the street from one another. One house has one water heater - the other two. Both properties see their bills change in unison as if they were one property. This is weird since these properties are on different gas mains (so leak is out of the question). I have checked the gas meters. Both use the rotor readings and both are quite difficult to read. My sense it that my gas company does not read them (or reads some other meter) since the window covers are quite matted and one meter is practically at ground level. I think the guess my use based on the temperatures in my area and leave it at that. I have keep one of the properties at low temps (mid 60s all winter or even off) and it has not made a lick of difference. What recourse do I have? Last year (winter of 2022) I saw the same thing and complained but nothing happens. Bills kept ratcheting up (last fall I jumped for $20 bill to $189 bill even though I keep my usage down).
