    Your so right by saying the 60's and 70's was the best time for music. Being a teenager at this time was just wonderful. Oh, how I miss those days. I thank all the reactors who are keeping this music alive . Peace!

      @@Rassskle the labels don't book four American tours in a year, plus Europe and the UK on top: the managers do. Labels wanted 1 album a year and the managers could have negotiated for time off. Look around for the Jon Lord interviews where he talks about how shagged out they were. Hepititis for Ian and Ritchie at separate times. That's down to management keeping them working non-stop. The record labels were a fraction of the driving force

    This has always been considered an anti-Vietnam War song. Ian Gillan, the singer, wrote the lyrics. Their "In Rock" album was the second album I bought as a teenager. I saw them live three times in 1971, 72 and 73. They were fantastic live. (I still have all my extensive collection of vinyl from the 60s and 70s.)

      More about the Cold War..this song was written and recorded in 1969.

    • @psbarrow
      @psbarrow ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's mostly Americans who think it must be about America's War Against Vietnam because everything has to be about them. But Gillan has said repeatedly it was about the Cold War. He said, for example, that “I started singing and the words came easily because we were all aware of the nuclear threat which hovered over us at this time which was probably when the ‘cold war’ was at its hottest ... So, we created this song using the Cold War as the theme.”
      Being British it's not surprising that they (and me) were far more concerned with any Soviet/ Warsaw Pact threat of invasion/nuclear war than the rogue, terrorist USA killing hundreds of thousands in a country half a world away that was never any threat to the them (or any other country) as they were fighting for their independence from France (and eventually US imperialism).

    • @ursgeiser6570
      @ursgeiser6570 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@psbarrow Well said by an imperialist Brit, but a big fake. Who got involved in the Iraq war; I thought at the time that the UK would become the 51st state, moving away from the reluctance of other European countries.
      And even before that, with the Fakland War, Britain had rediscovered its old imperialist streak.
      Wars are mostly diversionary maneuvers by old machos to distract from national problems and to unite their country through nationalism.
      As the saying goes, everyone should take a good look at their own nose and reconsider their own behavior✌

    Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Deep Purple were known as the Unholy Trinity, the actual founders of Hard Rock. And like Dire Straits Deep Purple consisted of top class musicians. And that makes for greatness. I basically grew up in the 60s, was in my teens in the 70s and I cannot tell you how lucky I feel to still be able to see performances like this one nowadays and have that connection to, as Dominica said, "back in the day". Elisabeth Zharov (The Charismatic voice) in her reaction compared the uuhs and aaahs of Ian Gillan with various expressions of pain in relation to the war (the song was a Vietnam protest, the "blind man shooting at the world" being the two superpowers going at it and leaving havoc in their wake) which I thought was brilliantly deduced.
    In a way I think the best music has already been composed, written, and sung. Sorry, most of what we hear today is just a watered down version of what was pure back then.

So, we created this song using the Cold War as the theme.”
      Being British it's not surprising that they (and me) were far more concerned with any Soviet/ Warsaw Pact threat of invasion/nuclear war than the rogue, terrorism of the USA killing hundreds of thousands in a country half a world away that was never any threat to the them (or any other country) as they were fighting for their independence from France (and eventually US imperialism).

    You are absolutely right! Music and the arts in general were so so much better than today. Even though we have super advanced technology, which continues to grow, we are currently in the new Dark Ages.

    Ritchie Blackmore, John Lord and Paste are considered among the best of the best on their chosen instruments.

    OH YES, THEY KNEW HOW GOOD THEY WERE. Gillan (vocals) and Blackmore (guitar) were among the cockiest of them all. They were #1 at that time (albumwise), Blackmore called one of the greatest and most influential guitarists of all time, Gillan was the first Jesus Christ Superstar. This song is a protestsong against Vietnam-War.

      No, it's a protest against the Cold War, as Gillan has repeatedly said.

      yeah it’s probably a dead heat between Ian and Greg Lake for a British musician who is his own biggest fan lol

    London WAS the place to be in the 60s and 70s. After that is was steadily downhill to where we are now. The musicians were so mature then and just incredibly talented and inventive. Those of us who experienced it were truly blessed as it will never come again.

    I love your guys reactions, and I've been a Deep Purple fan since I was a kid. You guys are right: Child in Time is just an overwhelming masterpiece by five unbelievable musicians each playing amazingly but somehow coming together.

    You'd better close your eyes
