    Great review Sean. I agree with what you were saying and others who have commented here, it looks like a harsh bump as it goes back and you hit the wall. I have to say also, if I currently had a Defiant bow, I just couldn't see putting out $1500 for this bow. I love that companies like Hoyt and Mathews (many others too) come out with something new about every year, because there are a lot of companies that keep putting the same bow out (and just change the color and name) and add $200-$500 to the price tag and try and sell them. Anyway, good info and keep at it brother! I will keep spreading the word my way and praying for you and that 100k subscriber mark to be hit soon!!

    I have always loved Hoyt bows, I just don't see that much of an improvement from my defiant that would cause me to pay $1,500.00 for a bare bow. I think that is another draw back for Hoyt, they stopped offering RTH packages. And I will still say I have a Hoyt striker from 1992 that shoots faster than my defiant and it was 3/4 of the price brand new.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree. That price certainly puts a lot of people off. I had a call from Bishop Archery today and he said that their carbon risers are made in China now. I haven't looked into it but if that is true that is even more of a turn off. A lot of the bow companies are suffering due to the rise of cross bows, and the rise of what they charge for a bow. Used to be you could buy a flagship bow every year or two. Nowadays you have to keep a bow for at least five years to really get your money's worth out of it compared to the way it used to be...

    • @johnrough6963
      @johnrough6963 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures I agree with the price points being way too high, they seem to be going up $300-$500 each year. But to me as long as you take care of your bow you don't need to buy a new one every year or every 5 years. My Hoyt striker is 26 years old and still shoots just like it did when it was brand new. Its consumption marketing that keeps pushing people to buy a new bow every year, they create an atmosphere that you need a new bow, when really you don't.

      @rep1989 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And the thing that gets me is when you ask about the carbon risers most of the people say the only benefit is its warm to the touch in colder weather. I feel like hoyt hasn't improved much since the Z5 cam series bows. I wanted a new hoyt but I think I'm just going to look around online for some older used models especially with the prices this year.

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, i can understand that. I used to be a big Hoyt fan, but after I started shooting a lot of different brands each year, I started to refine my personal taste and I came to realize that Hoyt just wasn't hitting the sweet spots that I want in a bow.

  • @FirearmHobbyist

    one flaw of the sound test is that you have that big tag hanging off the bow

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think the rattle of the tags added much if anything to the readings, but you are welcome to deduct a half of a decibel if you think its needed. The sounds of these bows going off is much louder than the little bit of rattle of the tags.

      lol God bless ya bro. It's a shame Hoyt doesn't respond to any of my attempts to contact them because if they'd give me a bow to give away then you'd have a free shot at one, lol! It's a shame Hoyt isn't more approachable.

    Hey Sean, loving your videos! I'm about to buy my first bow so I took an hour trip to the only bow shop in the area. Once I told him my budget was 400-500 he stopped being friendly (not that he was in the first place.) I was first asking about the Diamonds Edge because I liked your review. He said he didnt sell that because he only bought quality bows. By the end of my hour there it was between him ordering a $399 PST stinger for me, selling me a 2016 bowtech BTX(updated limbs) for $500 plus a $230 dollar advanced package, A $399 mission hype (package seperate), or a 2015 bowtech assassin package included for $500. All tuning included. I am 6'3" with a 29" wingspan, I was comfortable when the draw weight was 50lbs(need to build the archery muscles.) Are any of these a good deal? Or should I just get the Diamonds edge at bass pro and pay for a tuning? Thanks and God Bless!

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PSE Stinger is a single cam bow you could get at walmart. the BTX is a pretty nice bow. I reviewed the Mission hype years ago, here is the link th-cam.com/video/E8Wc9XrL_yE/w-d-xo.html.
      It is a tough call. the BTX is a higher end model, but if you are new, you may benefit from that large draw weight adjustable range. you will get a little more speed from a double cam bow than the single cam PSE you mentioned, and if you are going to have the bow tuned periodically, then the duel cams are probably a better option in the big picture. If one bow felt better to you than the others then just go with that. Or, if you want one more bow to try out, give the Bear Approach HC a try. I was SUPER impressed with that but haven't uploaded the review yet. I should get to that in a week or 10 days, but for the money it was shooting as nice as the $1500 hoyts and the Bear was around $400.

      Check out the PSE Brute Force the 2017 model is on clearance from sportsmans 399 for the package usually 549 great bow shooting 332 fps with 80% let off Amazing for the price. Give it a look great time to buy last year models but the bear is also a great bow for the money

    I have the 3 cam set at 27 1/2 dl and it is not close to what was described. I do notice a speed loss which I would gain back with the 2 cam but prefer a silky smooth draw. I have no vib with a 8" b stinger and a fmj 340. With these specs it draws actually better than the evolve I had which is my favorite cam system. I only get a tiny hump and dump at the end but feels like a speed bump compared to the elites I shot. Back wall could use some work so I just got some bomar stops to put on (they just released them for the rx-1)

    Sean's outdoor adventures what bow do you hunt with ?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure what bow I will use this year. I'm considering Xpedition Xcursion 7 for this year. I also emailed APA today to see if they could make me a custom cam so that it doesn't come off of the back wall so easily. If they can't do that, then maybe I will go with Xpedition. But, I haven't shot all the bows this year yet so I am going to wait till I shoot some more. Last year I used BowTech, but at the end of the seasons I was stuck hunting in an ice and snow storm and I found myself afraid to pull the bow back because of all the limb cracking problems they have had in the past. I didn't like having my confidence weakened like that, so I knew it was time for me to switch.

    • @seansoutdoors

      As of right now, no. There are no dealers anywhere near me that are carrying PSE bows.

    • @johnrough6963
      @johnrough6963 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sean's Outdoor Adventures hmmmm... That seems odd that there are no PSE dealers in your area of PA. Poor sales maybe?

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, just not a demand for them. The local shop picked up some Evolves last year but didn't want to carry them this year. Most dealers are just carrying other bow lines anymore. Actually, I have rarely seen PSE in any shops I have been in. Guess the competition is steep and customer service plays a role in it all too.

      The new cable to the bottom cam is different and the roller guard system is different.

    I've been looking at getting a new bow this year, Hoyt just doesn't seem to be the one. In my opinion Matthews makes a better product

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I was to offer my opinion, I would agree that I've enjoyed the Mathews products more than the hoyts in recent years, but there are several other bows I would gladly take over Mathews as well.

    • @jamesteddy9819
      @jamesteddy9819 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Which ones should I check out

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of great bows out there. I think the one I personally lean toward right now is Xpedition. They have a hybrid cam like Hoyt, but they are faster, smoother, and easier to tune to a bullet hole in paper. th-cam.com/video/ymuKegWPJ5I/w-d-xo.html I also liked the APA bow but the only thing that really bothered me about them is that they come off the back walk really easily like the Hoyts do, and I prefer a better hang on the back wall. I'd say that if APA made me a bow that would stay on the back wall with an 8/10 rating, and I got the add-on limb stop, than I would use that hands down. You can press the APA bows anywhere you go and work on them, which is super appealing to me!

      hey sean, I love your honest reviews and have been checking weekly for a hoyt rx-1 turbo review, if u have the time to do one id really appreciate your opinion on the bow :)

    • @seansoutdoors
      @seansoutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I apologize, but this year I had some things happen that I didn't expect and I also took a new job in Iowa, and I live in PA. This means that I have a month to move, sell my house, buy another, and relocate my family 14 hours away from where we are now. I won't be able to get to any more reviews this year. However, I have felt as though the Hoyt Turbo models have had a bit of a harsh or radical draw cycle and I found that the Xpedition bows were delivering more speed with a smoother draw with their hybrid cam system. Therefore, I personally lean toward Xpedition, but Hoyt still makes nice bows and people that use them seem to like them. Sorry I don't have time to get to it this year. God bless you.
