Not dna changed but rna of virus changed into dna because the genetic material of host is dna. Due to this they easily replicate inside the host cell

I think that 1) RNA is unable to integrate in host DNA 2) RNA needs to replicate therefore needs to be converted first in DNA. thereby making million of progenies (baby particles)

Basically its own genetic material is RNA but it only change its genetic material so that it hide from host immune system and also that become part of host DNA
