    The crazy part about this is they seem unaffected by the car market inflation. I just searched this video because i’m looking at one and the prices are still similar

    I bought a 02 carbon black SMG convertible E46 M3 three years ago for NZ $20k. I love the SMG because I can use it as an auticmatic or as a manual car. The build quality is so good the leather seats are as new. We have a lot joy our of it.

    Great video , I have an 04 E46 M3 vert in Phoenix Yellow with the 6 speed. The handling for a convertible is still very good and it’s been extremely reliable. Best bang for your buck you can get today

    You got an awesome deal, since that M3 is in fantastic shape. And the color combo is great too. I have a 2003 E46 M3 in Steel Gray Metallic with Gray Leather interior, but may change the interior to Cinnamon too.

      Have owned multiple SMG cars. Not an smg hater, have a video of one on the channel and explain its benefits. 6 speed is better in my opinion, from a value retention perspective. But SMG is tolerable. Thank you for the input- and I do agree it is faster to shift.

    • @KyleSulkar

      fhrisoma Thank you very much!
      I’ve only driven the M roadster once, and I will admit- it’s a very cool car. I’ve owned a Z4 and was a huge fan of it.
      However, the E46 m3 is a bit more practical (has more space) and it isn’t as hard to find them for a less expensive price

  • @ramiroospino24
    @ramiroospino24 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video. I’ve been on the fence on an e46M3 for quite some time. I seem to be able to only find ones with the SMG transmission. What’s your opinion on a swap to a 6 Speed?

    • @KyleSulkar
      @KyleSulkar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ramiro Ospino of course my friend! Glad you found it valuable! I honestly think it can be a great way to get a very clean, low mileage car that no one else is “jumping on” - however the cost can be upwards of 3-4k from my understanding and isn’t always reflected back in resale value as it would be had you bought a true manual. Honestly though, as much as the manual is fantastic, the SMG isn’t all that bad if it’s been serviced. You’re still getting a fantastic car!

    I had a 2006, MT, vert, dark blue, dove grey seats. I had been looking for those exact specs for years. So fun to drive top down....until it had an oil pan leak.
    No problem right? Lift the car, take off a bunch of screws and drop the pan, right? Nope! Not this car. BMW had t h e stupid idea of putting a frame cross member right below the pan. In order to remove the pan you have to undo all the motor mounts, undo all the tranny bolts, and winch up the motor a few inches just to allow space for the oil pan.
    What stupid engineer designed that?! Shop wanted way too much money. I sold the car at a huge loss.
    Would I buy another e46 M3? Yes if it had awesome maintenance history. Otherwise it'll be a $ pit
    Black M3s are too common and get way hot in the sun. Black just shows all the imperfections and is prone to fading and oxidation. That brown interior is really fugly in my opinion.

    With that price I will choose E92 335i convertable

    • @KyleSulkar
      @KyleSulkar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      peter Son I don’t blame you! Newer car with turbo’s and a hardtop. However- the m3 will hold its value a bit better, and generally have a more sporty/aggressive driving feel out of the box.

      The E92 335i is a beast not gonna lie. N55 is a true tuner engine, its a modern 2jz. But i would still choose the E46 m3. Just because of the old school bmw boxy shape and the s54 naturally aspirated engine.

    Any e46 M/// under 20kUSD$ will have hidden secrets. Which will inevitably lead to your wallets demise. Whether be vert or coupe, the e46 M is an enthusiast favorite that will most likely never see a below 15k price tag (for a clean example)
    You see, especially true with M/// cars, cheating yourself on the price of the car whole will ruin you financially later on lol i have a full contact list on my phone to show for 😀👍

    • @KyleSulkar
      @KyleSulkar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll have to agree to disagree. Getting into an e46 with an entry point of 15-18k has proven to be just fine when it comes to buying a decently sorted example. I have owned many of these cars, and have never paid over 20 as an initial investment. Have done vanos, rod bearings, suspension, all bushings, clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, exhaust hub fix, subframes and so much more...but it never made me completely updside down in a car. You have to pay to play- but that doesn't mean all examples under 20k are "bad" or "to your wallets demise" I've put a combined 100k+ miles on this platform over the past 6 or so years. Maybe I got lucky, but I had extensive PPI's done on them pre-sale all to pass with flying colors or with simple sub $500 repairs like a leaking valve cover gasket. With that being said, examples over 20 are a great place to start if looking for a fantastic example, however for many, that entry point isnt always feasible.
