    Thank you. I’m a book nerd, so I love this kind of video! I have also found the following very helpful: Wenham, Gordon. Exploring the Old Testament. Vol. 1, The Pentateuch. London: SPCK, 2003; Kaminsky, Joel S., and Joel N. Lohr. The Torah: A Beginner’s Guide. Oxford: Oneworld, 2011.

    Thank you, JM🌹🌹🌹🌹Great vid. Love to see more. Perhaps Judges, particularly Deborah. Also, it'd be interesting to hear about some of the other women in the OT(Miriam, Ruth, Esther, Ja'el, Bathsheba etc). Thanks for your contribution to the Body of Christ. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

    Thank you so much. I recently heard about Old Testament Use of the Old Testament and I can't wait to dig into it.
    Are there any particular commentary serieses (I think that's a word) that you'd recommend. I think I remember during the Ruth's Chris filmings you recommended the Bible Speaks Today series as well as the ... For Everyone series by N. T. Wright.

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, those are both good series that aren't technical, as is the Understanding The Bible series. I usually prefer to buy individual commentaries rather than a whole series, because the quality will vary greatly even with the same series (New Interpreter's Bible is a perfect example of this...some in that series are fantastic; others are dreadfully bad).

    • @SaltLight7
      @SaltLight7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DiscipleDojo Yeah. When I first looked into commentaries I ignorantly assumed all the books in a series were "the same" but just conveniently authored by different people. Then I found out that a lot of people say the same thing and warn against marrying yourself to one series just because.

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only time I've bought complete sets have been when they have had a big sale on Accordance or Logos (40-75% off whole sets).

    I like the Old Testaments use of the Old Testament, however, I suspect that do the time restraints, you did not mention feature of this book that I found pleasantly surprising: list the verses where the New Testament uses passages from each Old Testament book that the New Testament uses.

    Thank you!! I like Franz Delitzsch commentary, Paul Billerbeck commentary, Hengstenberg Christology work, John Gill Commentary and works, John Lightfoot Commentary, Adam Clarke Commentary, Alfred Edeirshem works, Albert Barnes commentary, Catena commentary, and the book of Yashar / Jasher.
    Most of them were christian hebraists of 1700s - 1800s. I think must of them can be found in Logos and TheWord software.

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are all in the public domain. However, understanding of things like Hebrew liguistics and ancient Near East literature/archaeology have advanced significantly since then, so while they are good to consult (and I do), there is much more that they were aware of at that time that should be factored in to one's studies.
