Can I Make Baltimore Pit Beef on a Pellet Grill? Let's Find Out!

- Can I make Pit Beef on a pellet grill? In this video, we’re going to cook two big hunks of bottom round roast - one on the charcoal grill (which is more traditional for Baltimore Pit Beef) and one on the Pit Boss pellet grill - to see if you can make the iconic Baltimore-style pit beef on the pellet grill!
We sliced the grilled bottom round roast thin for pit beef sandwiches, and we made a quick “Tiger” sauce with prepared horseradish, sour cream, and mayonnaise. These roast beef sandwiches were fantastic, but how did the pellet grill pit beef turn out? Was there a clear winner? Watch and find out! @meat2936

Thank you for honoring my areas bbq style(pit beef) it’s snubbed by a lot out there. You did a crab cake while ago and I sent you crab cakes, I’m not sending you pit beef this time haha. Still loving the videos on both channels buddy!
ahahahha Man....those were absolutely fantastic....thats being honest...
I'm here to tell you all anyone who denies a beautiful Pit Beef, or any BBQ for that matter is not a true Master of the craft. This is a must do! Can I get an Amen!
I agree that charcoal does have a better taste. I have a camp chef and Traeger pellet smoker, but I believe my Webber slow and sear just gives more authentic smoke flavor than a pellet grill. Don’t get me wrong. I do love my pellet grills for the convenience and you don’t have to worry about babysitting them like an open flame. Great video. GBO.
100 true...GBO
I've never gotten a sandwich of pit beef early enough for it to be anything less than dry, dry beef with a rim of char.... But i still love it.
Thanks for the video. I've been wanting a B-more pit beef sandwich. I just puchased a smoker and plan on trying it.
Hope you enjoy
Fabulous two cooks today. Liked the comparison and the fact you told everyone to try it with the unit you are cooking on. Make it your own, change the flavor to what you like. Great advice Neil and Amy. You did it right. Stay safe and keep up the fun around there. Fred.
Always appreciate ya....
Now, that's what I'm talking about. Combined that with a twist on Chicago beef. You will be golden great job guys.
Thats on the list for sure
Nice comparison Neal- I have done the charcoal version and used red onion on mine - now gonna try it on the pellett smoker - Thanks for being the crash test .....you know for us
Fantastic comparison Neal! They both look amazing! Absolutely wouldn’t turn either down but probably would pick charcoal. Cheers 🍻
This was the perfect experiment to break out the Meat slicer for!👍😊
I am drooling watching this. I couldn’t wait for you to do this one ❤
It's so good!
Very informative video Boss. You guys nailed it again.
TY bud....you used that griddle yet...
@PelletsandPits I beg to report that life, as it does got in the way and I have not finished building it yet. I'm about halfway through the assembly process. This has been a bear to put together, for me anyway. Sorry to be so slow 😞 . You've built a lot of various brands. Did you find it harder than others or no big deal ?
I was almost done with the assembly and I'm missing one of the burner knobs and the 2 bolts and washers that hold the lid grab bar on.
Really interesting video today. Will have to try it.
Hope you like it!
Good video guys to me they would both be great . THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA......
I am curious if anyone makes charcoal pellets? I've never seen them if so, but it makes me wonder if you could achieve a closer flavor profile if that was an option and it was safe to burn in a pellet grill... I've been looking for a great excuse to add a Kamado style grill to my outdoor arsenal. My wife would kill me, but I stand behind the "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" which is how I got away with my first Harley Davidson LOL! Smoked bottom round roast. I'm doing it on the Yoder, and yes I will clean the beast before cranking it up to 400+. Nice work team Amy and Neal!
You can get charcoal pellets that work with pellet smokers, might make a difference and be closer in flavor.
Hey Neil, I was wondering if I cooked a 3 pound roast but only wanted to slice if for a couple of sandwiches could I freeze the rest and thaw and slice for a latter date. like making hot roast beef
sandwich or something. Have you tried that yet or did you just share all that meat with your friends. Just asking, I'm going on budget and getting into prep-meals to save money. Great video and I'm gonna cook my 3 pound bottom round (4.99) a pound on my pit boss pro series 850. I'll let you know how it came out. Thanks
Could you slice it all thin and freeze what’s left over, maybe just throw it back on the smoker later?
Now I gotta get back to Chap’s!! 🤤🤤
Awesome video … interesting outcome, I would have thought the charcoal would have had more pronounced grilled flavor! 🍻 I should would like to see what you could produce on a drum smoker like a Gateway .. keep it up kids, great content!
Great suggestion!
How about using charcoal pellets in the smoker in Lieu of wood pellets? Just a thought
Absolutely...im a fan for sure...
What cut of meat is that and what all cuts could potentially work also?
bottom round roast....Yes...for most families I would actually highley recommend other cuts of meat
Looks delicious as usual. Where did you get the meat slicer because I need a new one.
Its from the brand called Meat your Maker
“Ambiance” 🤣🤣🤣
hahhah they get worse..hhahahhaha
Yea Man! charcoal all the way for me. 🫕Love your Tiger sauce with a little sour cream.
Same here!
Awesome cook guys. So I'm curious about the difference that would occur if you just trimmed the fat off at the beginning? Seeing that you cut off the charred part after just 30 minutes or so anyways.
Also what cut of beef did you use? We can get a whole beef round eye roast here at Sam's Club that goes about 8 lbs. or so. Will have to give this a try. Thanks for the idea.
Without honestly knowing...I feel like the fat just helps as a barrier...without it the beef would overcook on that side...by adding the fat it helps flareups and once its trimmed its placed back on...now you can cook this side for longer...just my theory...we used a whole bottom round
Did I miss where you told folks that big hunk o' meat in cryovac was a beef round subprimal? Some day, if you've got interest, it would be nice to see a flavor comparison from a live fire cooker.
Will do...thanks
Don't you have a Santa Maria grill? That's what this type of cook should be done on to maximize this cooking technique. Have a great day.
What was the meat slicer ? I don't see it listed. Can you do this all on the lonestar also? That thing is not cheap but I dont see it used much now. Just curious
Yeah absolutely....the lone star has the open flame option...the meat slicer is from Meat Your Maker
Out curiosity did you think of using your TMG pit? Probably the closest thing you can use for authentic method. But doing it on pits most people have is a good teaching experience
I did...with the santa maria...it would loose so much heat and take so much fuel to operate....with the kettle it allowed me to concentrate on the meat and not the grill...crazy I know...
🔥🔥🔥
What setting was your slicer on for cutting the meat?
It varied...less than 2...more than 1....there is some give in the knob...just because you move the knob the pressure does not move the blade...so have to find that sweet spot..
@@PelletsandPits ok cool I have the same slicer..
Will charcoal pellets achieve a similar flavor to lump charcoal?
Unfortunately not..i have tested most...and just doesn't do it...
@@PelletsandPits I have noticed weber grills are very popular. Are the the best grills?
What cut of beef was that?
Whole Bottom Round
What cut of beef is that ? Sorry if it was mentioned :)
Bottom round roast
What cut of meat was it
bottom round
now just make a kummelweck roll And you have a beef on weck
They have charcoal pellets. Just saying.
Although that looks really good, it looks like a PITA, I'll stick to my Texas style.
Goodbye Arby's 😎👍
