Conservation Translocations in Scotland

  • The talk provides a summary of the range of conservation translocation work going on in Scotland. This has involved species ranging from Eurasian beavers, to golden eagles, pine hoverflies, montane willows and lichens. Some of these projects have been very high profile and complex, not just in biological terms but also socially and politically. Hear about some of the challenges involved, and attempts at finding solutions.
    About Martin
    Martin is Species Projects Manager at NatureScot, Scotland’s nature conservation agency. He has led numerous species conservation projects, including beaver reintroduction to Scotland since 2000. He is a member of the IUCN Conservation Translocation Specialist Group, lead editor of ‘Conservation Translocations’ published by Cambridge University Press, and Senior Research Associate at the University of the Highlands and Islands. He is in Australia as part of his 2023 Churchill Fellowship learning about different approaches to conservation translocation.
