He is one of my very favorite country singers. The idiot who said john denver sings better must be tone deaf. Rich is one of the most original, unique and talented singers I have heard. I love classical music myself, but this man made country music classic.
Jeff Parker John Denver is not even in the league with Charlie Rich! Charlie was one of e original Memphis Sun Records masters. When I lived in Colorado, people had "John Denver Go Home" (New York) on their cars.
Fantastic ! I recall when Mr. Rich started making it big in the 70's. I enjoyed C.R. in my teen years. Country when Country wasn't cool? Oh well. I used to watch Pop Goes the Country with one of my favorite aunts, Aunt Zoa, when I spent summers with her in the Oklahoma backwoods. She passed in '82. Thanks mom for getting her a better antenna & that color TV. Made summers a lot more enjoyable. Ma & pa passed in '98. Hope we all'r together & see Charlie sing in the family circle in the sky.
I always thought he died of cancer. I know he was a great performer and song writer. He sounds great here. you got to consider how old he was when he past., even before he died he sounded great, we miss you Charlie
Charlie Rich is the first artist I can remember hear sing and his sound stopped me in my tracks. I was about 4 years old and it was 1973. Charlie Rich and his music will always have a special place in my heart because to me he is one of the great American originals. Thanks to my dad Richard for buying those Charlie Rich albums and 8 Tracks. You shaped my musical influences forever!
I know this is an old post but I read it and had to comment. Same story here, I too was 4 yrs old when I first heard him. Behind closed doors was always playing on the radio and since my Mom knew I loved the song she bought me the 45 single. I miss the 70's !
@@psgpicker , thanks for sharing your story about Charlie Rich. The man and his music was very special and really had a permanent influence on me to this day. I can’t believe I wrote my original comment 10 years ago!
This is great i've got alot of charlie so this just puts the icing on the cake i'm a big charlie fan but i know i'm not on my own when i say this what a performer he was thanks for this gem! dave
Any artist would love to have those 3 songs in their reportaire, I've heard it said that besides Elvis no one else in Memphis or Nashville had as much affect on the ladies like Charlie, when he walked in a room you could almost see the panties a fallin', old Charlie worked away for 20 years before hitting big mid to late 70s, another Sam Phillips/Sun Records discovery.
There are so few videos of him live on YT its sad. Its the same for a few people of that Genre. Were they not liked or do they have cast iron contracts and are paying Lawyers well after their death who knows. Thanks for sharing although you posted this years ago I just found it.
Mr Rich became very rich and said to hell with it. He made some shrewd investments getting in early on some highly successful ventures such as Lee's Chicken and on good authority these netted him around 250,000,000.
@starr522 I've never heard that one before. I've always heard booze, pills, a lighter and a envelope caused his downfall. Long story short, a buzzed Charlie decides to be funny and lights the envelope on fire before announcing John Denver as CMA's Entertainer of the Year for 1975.
THE Silver Fox...one & only...always! Love you Charlie 💝

I like both Charlie and John, but my favorite is Johnny Cash.

John Denver SUPERSTAR 🌟⭐⭐⭐⭐Charlie Rich SUPERSTAR 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
to bad we don't have singers and music like that anymore, RIP Charlie.
I was in charollote nc in 1995 when he died never forget the day the guy told me.billy Godwin.
Glenn Campbell was one of the best! I’ll never get tired of hearing that beautiful voice!
We need some more country music like this
Very true but I have found a band called " American pride and they are a tribute band for the Statler Brothers and they sound just like them.
One of the very best! So underrated! He should have so much more credit! Beautiful music! Thanks for your clip!
I have loved the man since 1973, when I was 6 yrs. old and still love him today, some 38 years later.

The ending of Behind closed doors is surprising and very well done by Charlie and the Orchestra! Very good Medley!
Thanks for the music Charlie. Love you always.
I would sit at my piano and practice the licks that Charlie put in his songs! I miss those days when that’s all I had to do!

I am both a fan of Charlie's and John's, but my favorite is Johnny Cash.

Charlie died in 1995 from a blood clot in his lung.
I was never a Charlie Rich fan!
