Thank you for this Dr. Guyton! I am in my first year of a comprehensive doctoral program and I can definitely relate to the young lady who submitted this question! Being a minority at a Research I PWI is challenging and as a first-generation graduate student, "like-me" mentorship opportunities can far and few between but I'm learning a lot of really awesome things and I can thinking about the greater impact I can and will have on my community. My background is similar to yours. I was at a PWI and first-generation. I had to learn the process and balance finding my identity at the majority institution.
