I feel this comment so much. It is so bizarre to think basically our generation is the last who can actually relate to this movie, and truly 'GET IT'. It's kinda cool, but it's also EXTREMELY SAD.
This is such a perfect film. Its emotional, its funny, it's just classic. The acting is brilliant and so is the soundtrack. Also Joe is 100% my favourite character if not only for the fact he genuinely cares for every single employee. Lucas fucks him over majorly and he STILL cares for him, asks him if he needed the money because he was in trouble. Is stressed the hell out and STILL wishes AJ luck with telling Corey how he feels about her. Takes the time to tell Debra she is doing a good job in hopes of making her feel better. There are so many more examples but the point is Joe is KING 🤴
watched this movie for the first time as a kid bc it was my mom’s favorite and have watched it a ton of other times since. i was at the thrift store today and found an original release soundtrack cd for this movie and so now i gotta watch it again. greatest movie
I was in high-school when this came out and I still love it as much as I did then. I jokingly made a button for my work name badge in the early 2000s that said 'Marc sucks' as me and coworkers were each representing characters from the film. I was Marc lol though I'm more like a non suicidal (but somewhat self destructive) Deb crossed with Marc lol.
Personally, I was shocked that it was a flop! This came out when I was in college and I loved it and still love it. Watch it every few months! Does anyone else recognize Rex Manning and what other "major" roles he had??? I can tell you...! =)
Thank you for uploading this. It isn't available anywhere here in Denmark anymore, so I'm happy I found it here and rewatch it. It's such a great comfort movie, great story, funny, heartwarming, weird and the music is amazing. I miss the time where there music was just as important as the movies, if not more. To be a teenager in the 90's was pretty epic in so many ways.
Watch it 1st time after the release. Sparked me to work at the record store in my place. Missed those memories. Among the underated movies but still being appreciate by the people who knew about this movie.
White, Suburban American Teenagers from the same generation of the featured characters all *LOVE* this movie because it was so easy to see themselves as parallel to a particular character…what I can say now watching it through the eyes of an adult with kids. It’s a coming of age story; a group of record store employees are working to close-out their adolescence and believe they’re ready to become adults, but some impulsive decisions have them coming to terms with the fact that they aren’t adults yet…
@@ericbush3399 I was one of those white suburban teenagers…I think you missed the point of my comment, the idea I was trying to convey was that it’s a story about a group of adolescents who think they’re ready for all that adulthood has to throw at them & each one of them finds themselves *WAY* over their head…
This movie is more polarizing than i expected. In the comments, some shred this movie profusely, others say it was the best film ever. When it first came out i loved it. Decades later i just like it. Some of the scenes are unclassy. My favorite character is a tossup between AJ & Lucas. I usually dont like characters with lucas personality, but the actor pulls it off so well he is likeable.
I was 29 years old when this movie came out man I am old there's almost no one can remember record's or spending a entire day at a record store I only have enough for one album and I always new exactly what album I was going to buy I should have been in and out in 2 minutes but every time it was 4 hr minimum
Imagine working with a chic and she walks into work, doesn’t say a word, goes to the bathroom and comes out looking like GI Jane. 😂 that’s one crazy bee right there!
Could Tlak for HOURS about this Movie, It's a Fav! I Still use lines from this all the time! I only ended up here because I was looking for a soundtrack song. TY TH-cam! So Happy to Watch THIS! It's sad its a free movie, but its its mine now so... "I do Not regret the things I have done, But Those I did not do."
The film was severely edited in post-production, removing three significant characters and up to 40 minutes of film. The story was also condensed from occurring over two days to a single day.
Empire records before it was bought out and turned into F.Y.E lol but always loved going to record stores and discovering new artists before the internet ruined that
Paul the pizza guy is also in White Oleander!!! He's the comic book keeper that keeps Astrid's letters!! Cool other fact Aj is headed to my hometown!!!! Aj give my home hell for me
Loved hanging out in record stores my experiences spannedover 4 decades from 60s on all Kool music kept changing adding formats reinventing expression never disappointing only thing lps 2 CDs got too expensive then downloading downsizing n finally disappearing But they were really something while my guitar gently weeps. Amen❤Go in peace not today's fashion. But hey my entire record collection goes were my device travels n more Things got kooler compact n relived😂❤Go Johnny go go gone baby freak out with Frank🎉
Wondering if Harry Styles got a bit of his inspirstion for Watermelon Sugar High .. from Sugar.High.. different tempo yet still.. sugar High is a great hook 🎉
I wonder why The The's song "This is the day" which is played at the end of the movie when everyone is dancing on the roof, why that song didn't make it onto the soundtrack?
Who else watches every Rex Manning Day?! ❤
Also Kurt Cobain's Deathiversary. April 8th

A true gem of a movie that I never knew existed . Brought tears to my eyes !!!😢 Teen of the 90s . Will never be the same .
I really wanna see Tobey Maguire’s scene as Andre, but it will never see the light of day :(

AJ: What’s with you today?

I worked at a store very similar to this one in the nineties. Are we obliged to apologise for where we come from?
....or just feel guilty?

Corey is amazing, telling AJ to go to art school so WW3 doesn't happen

I wonder why The The's song "This is the day" which is played at the end of the movie when everyone is dancing on the roof, why that song didn't make it onto the soundtrack?
I agree I bought the soundtrack for that song in itself and was so upset when it wasn't on there!!
i'll never look at HMV the same way
Shawty was picking the percs up off the floor that’s crazy.
I guess you grew up after diet pills were a thing, because they most certainly weren't percs.
"I'd get a lot done if I was chewing down speed, too, ya know." Not percs lol
I really miss wearing short little skirts like that either boots!😩😩
Yep.. Women nowadays wearing high cut jeans reall bums me out... Wish the nineties would return...
