I agree with Frank …. Your videos have shown how versatile the carbide tools are! I started out with a couple of carbide tools and until you came along, I felt that I was not really turning. Since watching your videos I have purchased a set of carbide tools and I’m starting to learn how to properly use them. I don’t really understand why wood turners are so negative about the carbide tools. The only thing that it can be is they have never watched your videos to see that they are much more than scrapers! Thank you Glenn🤠🇨🇱
Thank you Randy. That really does mean so much. It really surprises me of how much negativity there still is about carbide tools when they are just another Woodturning tool in our armoury. I guess the problem now is there are rather a lot of well-known turners that have spent quite a few years now telling people that carbide are just scrapers and that you can’t get a good finish from them. They can’t deny what I am showing and probably feeling gutted that they didn’t take the time to learn how to use them properly. I’m just really happy that I am able to help people in doing their Woodturning and getting the best out of their carbide tools. I still think we should start a carbide revolution. 😆
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 I don’t know why people can’t support both! I love my spindle roughing gouge. I have a cheap skew chisel and parting tool that I sharpen on a wet wheel and diamond card. I really don’t want to have to spend the money to sharpen a bunch of traditional tools ….. That was the main reason I became interested in the carbide tools as soon as I started turning. I really think that a couple of years from now they will be accepted more widely 🤠🇨🇱

Hi Glenn & Liza, really enjoyed the video. Gives me an idea on how to use up some wood scraps! That Yue wood sure looks like the wood from Caragana trees that a lot of the farmers plat for wind breaks in Alberta & Saskatchewan. Got a question on your wood handles and the Farrell’s do you make them or buy them? Thank you and keep those videos coming 👍
I make all my wood handles myself. The ferrel's are cut from 22mm copper tubing. Brass can snap but copper has a bit of give.

I love all your videos, and especially your expertise with carbide tools, which I started using nearly exclusively 2.5 years ago. But when you started posting videos, I learned that I could do SO MUCH more with them. I honestly had never before seen anyone use them as one would a traditional chisel, unless they were using Hunter tools. Love your approach, your videos and your tools. Wish they were available in the USA.
If you have a moment, I'd like to ask (2) questions. First, I can't always tell if you are using green or dry wood. The top you just made appears to be made from a green piece of yew. If it is, do your worry about distortion and/or cracking after the turning is complete, especially since you've included the pith?
Secondly, I love the combination Face Shield/Respirator that you wear. Can you kindly tell me the make and model?

Hi Frank, thank you for your feedback. This makes it all worthwhile. That’s why I started to put these videos out for, as there is no one putting out what carbide tools can actually do. My argument is that they are 100% not scrapers, unless they are used to scrape. The skew chisel is named by most as the best cutting tool, but when used to scrape, it is just another scraper. It’s not what the tool is called, but how it is used that matters. Thank you for watching my videos. The wood I use is kiln dried. I very rarely get wet wood. The yew I was turning with is part seasoned and was cut last year, bought from Snainton Woodworking Supplies here in the UK and £20 for 10kg. The Respirator is from Axminster Tools.
