  • Explanation: Electric lines of force never intersect because, at the point of intersection, two tangents can be drawn to the two lines of force. This means two directions of the electric field at the point of intersection, which is not possible.["AU"]
    The tangents at a point on the line of force given the direction of electric field at that point. It two lines of force intersect each other at a point, then electric field at that point will have two directions. As the same cannot be true, tow lines of force will have two directions. As the same cannot be true, two lines of force will never intersect each other. ["AU"]
    At any point, if electric field lines cross each other it means at that point there are two directions of electric field, which is impossible.["AU"]
    Complete step by step solution
    Tangent at a point on the electric field line gives us the direction of the electric field at that point. If two electric lines intersect with other electric lines then there are two tangents at that point. And due to two different tangents there are two different directions of electric field at that point. It is not possible that there are two directions of electric field at the same point.
    Hence, electric field lines never intersect each other is true and this is also a property of electric field lines.["AU"]
