I made my own several years ago. Fiesta red strat and I just bought a new pickguard and electronics. I also like the smaller headstock. And used a JB. Whole thing took an hour and saved me many hundreds of dollars.
I also had the original one on daphne blue, surf green and black. Beautiful guitars, although I wouldn't buy them today. To me it's a little bit expensive for a 1 pickup guitar. That being said, I get that a lot of people couldn't afford one 20 years ago, so now's that chance. Great to see these guitars back!

I also have both. The only differences I've noticed is the necks on the new ones are matte and lighting fast to move around. The neck is also way lighter in color to my 2000s era TD
Blink has always been my fav band and Tom delonge was always my man crush and back in the day I *attempted* to be a guitar player and legit wanted the OG one only because of Tom

as a huge fan of blink and all of tom’s projects, of course this guitar is pure nostalgia fuel. but a mexican strat for 1300 is not even in the ball park. i’ll be looking for a hard tail squier strat and spend some time having a fun little project instead.
I didn’t even notice the bridge saddles were different as I only just placed my order, but that makes me very happy. The original saddles definitely suck. My original black TD was purchase from a girl I knew in high school for…$100… and years later someone stole it from me. I like my TD epI phone because it has a nice raised bridge and makes palm mutes feel effortless and comfy, so that’s wonderful!
I'm still really hoping they release Tom's new signature Starcaster model for sale, because I have a home custom Squire Bullet that I modded to be a Tom DeLonge copy, which, just two months after I finished that project, Fender released their own Squire single humbucker, single volume knob guitar, so that was fun. 😑 Lmao But I still want a semi-hollow, because I don't have one, and a Tom Signature Starcaster would be really awesome, even if they also release a cheaper Squire option.
So many ppl have been complaining that it comes with a single pickup but do they not realize that when you take off the pickguard cover, the guitar has been routed for a single coil middle pickup, as well as a humbucker neck pickup?
The mid-range non-US made instruments in most brands have come a long way in 20 years so I’m not surprised that the new one is a better instrument. I feel like old Mexican Fenders felt closer to Squier in terms of build quality, but these days they really stand out as quality instruments.
The MIM guitars took a big step up in quality around the time of the design changes in 2009 - darker tint on the necks, all black logos, updated colors, etc.

Everyone has their thing but I totally disagree. Fender fell off around 2012 I'd say. My 2000 models blow all of the newer ones out of the water. Just my experience with it though

I’m thinking about get the Squier esquire deluxe and replacing the pickup with an invader to get that pop punk sound. I want to save some cash and I already have a nice Stratocaster. Thought do you guys think that will get me close?
I did that with an old Stagg copy and it will definitely work. That Invader does a lot of the heavy lifting for the sound. It doesn't sound very different from my new reissue. "close" is subjective but it'll def. be a fun guitar, don't expect a $200 guitar to play like a $1000 one out the gate though.. You'll miss out on some of the details like better fretwork, quality of the hardware but over the long term you can do more upgrades. You could even swap out the neck at some point for example.

Even though tge MIM stuff is at a level now that is all but indistinguishable from the USA production guitars imho. I have a MIM Charvel San Dimas that is absolutely STUNNING! Its a 2015, i did have a Locke custom guitars artist grade birdseye maple neck made for it and upgraded the hardware, but it was great before that too, i just love birdseye lol.

I’m not sure if other guitarists feel this way but it’s a shame that the “Mid-range market” is virtually nonexistent. Sure some Squires these days are just as good, probably better as the Fender Standard series from years past. But to be able to get a great guitar for only $500 out of box with the same name on the headstock as your musical heroes motivated me so much to practice and play like a pro.
I paid $1000 for the same guitar with all American parts. The neck plate is the blink bunny. This price is realistic for the fender made one but not justifiable when you can make the same guitar (not authentic) with better parts. You're paying for the collectable.
Mike Mushok is my favorite guitarist and he is the epitome of the last part of your comment. In the beginning, he had a signature Ibanez MMM1 baritone guitar, made in Korea, that he himself used on stage. I own the guitar and its one of the best guitars I've ever played. He next went to PRS and made a signature SE baritone with them (also built in Korea), and he used that guitar for their entire album they released in 2011. And he still uses that same guitar when they play live, no gimmicks, no custom shop. Just simple PRS SE guitar. That PRS SE cost brand new $665 I believe, and the Ibanez brand new was around $700 or $800. Both prime examples you can get premium quality guitars for well under $1000. Thank God for players like Mike Mushok.
Absolutely. Almost $1,300 for a Mexican made guitar just isn’t justifiable in my mind. The prices Fender is charging now are wild. I paid $429 for a Mark Hoppus bass in 2003 and, if I remember correctly, the Tom Delonge strat was the same price. Adjusting for inflation, that’s $710 today.

Honestly, it does look great but it’s literally just a Strat with one humbucker. Even back in the 00’s I saw the potential market but it has less features than either a standard Strat or a HH Strat. I like that it’s simplistic but the price doesn’t reflect that.
as much as i love these guitars the price isnt justified for me. I built a partscaster for around 600 using fender parts. Maybe if it came with a hardcase i could see it being so.

Ordered a new black one to go with my OG surf green one as well. Since I had the classic Tom blink looks got the black for Boxcar vibes.

I put a defender pickup in my early ‘00’s graffiti yellow fender cyclone. It has a tbx tone control too. That thing rips.
I had the Squire version in high school. Miss the hell out of that guitar. The oversized headstock is so dope!

There's also a PCB mounted treble bleed attached to the pot.

I like the single humbucker and volume pot. However, the traditional neck heel isn’t for me. It at least needs to be offset.

@@janon3405 also Fender is launching the Vintera II line (MIM models with Rosewood Fingerboards) so you will see plenty of Fenders with Rosewood Fingerboards soon enough.

Honestly, it does look great but it’s literally just a Strat with one humbucker.
Even back in the 00’s I saw the potential market but it has less features than either a standard Strat or a HH Strat.
I like that it’s simplistic but the price doesn’t reflect that.

as much as i love these guitars the price isnt justified for me. I built a partscaster for around 600 using fender parts. Maybe if it came with a hardcase i could see it being so.
