Tiger Hill is a bit far from where all the traditional gardens and the center of the city. But you may take a boat ride from Tiger Hill to ShangTang Street (山塘街). The ride is very beautiful.
In addition to what people have already suggested, you should consider visiting 网师园 at night, where 6 forms of traditional local music are performed (sampled). It’s a very unique experience, even for Chinese people from other regions.
SuZhou is famous for well maintained traditional and historical family gardens where famous Chinese writers, poets, interlectures, and retired government officials…had lived comfortably and created long lasting arts and literatures.

Although China has a large population, it is very orderly, with everything well-organized. It is so neat, clean, and beautiful, unlike many countries in the world where a large population leads to chaos. This includes the United States, which often faces many crimes and issues with homelessness. The subway system in the U.S. is often described as dirty and disorganized, a point frequently mentioned by Americans.

I live in Suzhou and if you want to travel through some modern buildings I recommend you to go to the industrial park, the place you are going to is the old city, where the buildings cannot be built high, so if you want to go to a more modern and convenient place, I recommend you to come to the industrial park, which will make you satisfy.

Foreigners are often confused, yes, the first class is a bit more spacious than the second class, but the business class is the best on high-speed trains, you can really lie down and sleep, only a few seats per carriage,If the city has a subway, it is recommended to choose a hotel near the subway station to stay, so you will save a lot of time

    • @BenjiSun
      @BenjiSun 2 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

not just foreigners, it can be confusing for locals too who aren't used to it. it's a bit different for train classes. a better naming system in English should be "Executive", "Class 1", "Class 2". since hotel "executive floors" aren't called "business class", but they're the same in Chinese.

I highly recommend you two to come to Tibet for a visit(not just Lahsa but also other natural scenic spots),though you may need some extra preparations like a special permission and a guide.I take a self-driving road trip around the Ali region(a district of Tibet) during this national day holiday. The natural scenery is so stunning and breathtaking, and you will hardly see "people mountain people sea" in these places.I can say that most of the time, you just park your car along the road, and you can enjoy the heavenly nature exclusively without being disturbed by others.

In the afternoon, take a walk at Shantangjie or Ping Jiang Road to feel the epitome of ancient Suzhou. The food in this video is more like szechuan food. Make sure to try some authentic local food! if you are taking a short distance high speed rail like from suzhou/hangzhou to shanghai, try business class once. the price difference isn't that much for short distance travel so you can get the experience for cheap. you get use of the business lounge and all the queue skipping 😆
you guys are just in the suburbs. personally I like to say a bit away from the center myself as long as there's a metro stop nearby. things are cheaper and more authentic plus it's a nice quiet retreat after a long day sightseeing in busy tourist areas.

Suzhou doesn’t look like a ‘developed city’ coz there aren’t too many high-rise building gatherings. However it’s one of the richest city in China. It’s one of China’s most important manufacturing centres ( another ones are Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen), it’s also the largest river based harbour on this earth, as well as a cultural landmark in China.

The old town has a height restriction so to protect the view from inside the ancient gardens. Buildings are not allowed to be built taller than 6 floors. The old city is probably the most protected old cities in China.
If you want to see the tier 1 part, you should go to SIP, to the east of the old city.

@TwoMadExplorers, Suzhou has some splendid gardens, like the Humble Administrator's Garden. I did the opposite of what you did, that is I visited Suzhou first followed by Hangzhou. I found Suzhou rather mundane, but I took to Hangzhou immediately. West Lake (and its surrounds) in Hangzhou makes all the difference. Suzhou is not in the same league as Hangzhou (which in addition to being high-tech, has natural beauty).

Suzhou government has done a fantastic job on preserving historic part of Suzhou, while most other Chinese cities tear down old town center replacing with modern buildings, this is kind of sad for many people as history only remains in their memory. By the way, Suzhou is actually one of top 10 richest city in China. Suzhou has three parts, SID- Singapore Industrial District with a lot modern buildings, Suzhou downtown, historical old building get preserved, and SND- Suzhou New District which is new district for future development. 😂

Suzhou has developed modern industries, but also has rich historical and cultural heritage and has preserved or restored many ancient city areas. Therefore, it looks like half modern city and half ancient city

14:54 The boss said: Even if it's a bit boring, you have to eat it. Suzhou cuisine is also famous in the world, with many varieties and many types of dishes. China has eight major cuisines and four major flavors. Among them, Suzhou cuisine is divided into official cuisine, family cuisine, Tan cuisine, etc. There are many styles of dishes.
My additional explanation: The eight major cuisines generally refer to: Shandong cuisine, Sichuan cuisine, Hunan cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine (including Suzhou cuisine), Zhejiang cuisine, Anhui cuisine, Guangdong cuisine and Fujian cuisine. The provinces with the four major flavors are: Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong and Huaiyang.

I thought after visiting Hangzhou, you might have turned to Mount Huangshan (just a few hours car journey from Hangzhou).
Mount Huangshan is a world cultural and natural heritage, a world geopark, a national AAAAA tourist attraction, a national scenic spot, and a demonstration site of a national civilized scenic spot. There you will understand more the aesthetic view and comportment of traditional Chinese paintings.
Sorry that you seemed not to have a very good first impression of Suzhou. In my impression, Suzhou has much to offer, especially traditional Chinese gardens.
I thought it's better to go into a restaurant that is not empty. 😄

Compared with Shanghai, the scooters and traffic in Suzhou are a little bit more chaotic, but other than that, Suzhou is a very beautiful city.

Maybe the next 'Zhou' could be Fuzhou and then Xiamen (namely Taiwan strait). Alternatively, you could visit Shangrao in Jiangxi province.

Well since you already there, you might want to check out the nearest park to your current location : Suzhou Huqiu Wetland Park .
And also I want to point out: you are not really in Suzhou yet. At least from a local point of view, that place you staying is outskirt of suzhou.
