Unbelievable, the difference between UK and China in terms of price and comfort. Japanese shinkansens are great but a LOT more expensive than the Chinese HSR. And I doubt they'll have the same luxurious business class with the same amenities.
Took the train from Hongkong to Guangzhou during summer holidays. Best train experience I ever had. Planning to take the train again from Hongzhou to Shanghai in spring 2025.
In case you wonder Luke, HSR in China averagely reach 300km/h-350km/h, compare to that, in Japan is averagely 200km/h-320km/h, and much more expensive at the prices. Also Japan announced that they want to reach 360km/h in 2030, and China just tested out their 450km/h train and going to put it in lines in the next few years.
If Japan’s trains are as fast as China’s trains expect to pay about 10 times more! No thanks! I’ll stick with China’s trains, they are lighter to my wallet and more to my liking!
200? 260 on the shorter lines and up to 320 (and yes 360 in future) on the Tohoku Shinkansen. Japan has also tested a 603 km/h train, a world record, for service at 500 km/h, under construction. Their safety record is much better too
Amazing how China expanded its high speed train network in just 10 years and UK are stumbling with HS2.UK's high speed train project has hit the buffers - overdue with budget overruns, and still nowhere near completion. And, its not even going to terminate in Central London!😂BBC said that China would never show a profit on the High Speed trains.I guess they miss the point.Chinese government heavily invests in infrastructure to improve the lives of its people. It's not about profit first.
Is Boris the one that awarded the UK train project to Japan after it was initially awarded to China? What a nightmare every Japanese train project has been! The ones in India, Vietnam, Tanzania, Indonesia, and UK are still being delayed after a decade-long behind schedule or have been canceled due to Japan’s inability to build the projects at all even after nearly a decade of waiting by the host countries! I believe all of those projects, except the ones in India and the UK, are being built by China now! China finished building the speed train project for Indonesia a couple years ago even though the project was started later than the projects in India and the UK! Now Indonesia is extending the train project to other parts of the country thanks to China’s quick and high quality works that are always on time or ahead of schedule!
The biz class fare is a steal compared to what I paid on Brit rail for an economy ticket on an oversold choo choo and we had to stand or sit on the floor for a four hour jpurney and no refund or an apology. Have a great time and enjoy your stay!
@@livinlavidaluke there are a few time slots that the Maglev goes for 430km/h. It's only 3x daily if I'm not mistaken, the rest of it they only run on 300km/h
He accompanies you to the gate likely because he has to let you guys in the elevator. That's what happened when we went to China last year. My mom was on a wheelchair because she couldn't walk too much too far, so we had to let the train station know in advance about bringing a wheelchair. They had to unlock the elevator for us, and when we arrived at our destination, they helped us off, sent us all the way to the area to get on our Didi. Very lovely people.
China has the fastest bullet train for a few years now -- not unless Japan has since built a faster one. China's train: "The magnetic-levitation (or maglev) train can clock speeds of 623 kph in tests - almost 200 kph quicker than the fastest train in service."
But sadly not the best business class, try Shanghai-Beijing superfast’s business class and make sure it is intelligence unit, def way more better than this
Just Google Japan's Shinkansen speed - The maximum operating speed is 320 km/h (200 mph) (on a 387.5 km (241 mi) section of the Tōhoku Shinkansen). By the way, like ❤your videos! Enjoy your time in 杭州 with your parents!

maybe socialism govt absorbs or rather subsidize the train tickets, as we know it will never at the price you are paying for such ride and comfort...thank the administration
I live in San Francisco, California and our public transportations such as the Muni (bus) and Bart (metro) are subsidized as well but it’s not only expensive but dirty and not very safe. For example, it’s cost me over $12 USD from the city to SFO (San Francisco International airport). I think most public transportations are subsidized worldwide, not just China.
Not necessary subsidised by government. Remember there are alot of restaurants shop in train stations just like airport. Train company just collect rents from shops and then use it to offset the cost of the ticket. Otherwise it is called transport centric urban development.
The Chinese Government declared that their HSR is profitable a few months ago, which when you consider the astronomical investment of building the system is really impressive. (And they've not finished yet!)
@@rogerstarkey5390 Only a few east coast HSR routes are profitable. The overextension of the HSR is a costly, hampered by debt and passenger trains are highly subsidised. A benefit of building HSR was allowing freight trains to travel with greater loads on the older conventional lines and these are far more profitable.
@@GC-bm8nlactually it is not that bad, overall China HSR is losing 30mil/monthly but their foreign investment return profit is around 100-600bil/annually hence the Gov can absorb all of this. business class lets you in first to the platform and wheelchair do give some priority (like on planes, they let the ppl on wheelchairs go on first)
That's awesome! Your folks looks like kids in a candy store. Glad to see they're having a great time.
Business class boards first

How did you manage to get business class tickets? They are sold out the second the tickets go on sale!

China has the fastest trains in the world. Shanghai Maglev's max speed is 460 km/h, while Japan's Shinkansen caps at 360 km/h.
I have been on the maglev several times before and it only reached 301km/h
The speed was reduced after 2021 to adjust to specific schedules. But Shinkansen is still like only the 5th in the world; it’s not the fastest.
In fact, the maglev train has come to an end, will not be large-scale commercial, because its maintenance costs are too high
@@livinlavidaluke there are a few time slots that the Maglev goes for 430km/h. It's only 3x daily if I'm not mistaken, the rest of it they only run on 300km/h
China is also building medium speed hydrogen powered trains, the CINOVA H2.
I did not know this. This is amazing.
The fastest operating bullet train speed in Japan is 320km/h while China's is 350km/h.
