    Awesome work! Just discovered the channel while following a bunch of amiga people, and now a frenchie living in Ireland (the slight accent was a clue that made me look into this), so refreshing !

    Random YT recommendation, honestly as soon as I heard "I have very little experience with SMD stuff, this amiga is gonna be a trial by fire" that's me watching till the end, this is gonna be a fun watch 🤣

    I know I’ve upset “Chucky” but even with my emotional outbursts, I still applaud and love everything he does for us!! Also, good job man! This was a great build!

    I'm very envious as I refurbed an A1200 Rev 2B recently, love the black PCB and I already retro-brighted the creamy case/housing but I do prefer the black one like yours you show at the end of this video!

    The more I see the Amiga into a black case the more I like it! 😃😃

      yeaah loving the black case on an A1200 . I like my A500 to stay stock but for a build like that it makes sense to go wild

    PCB looks nice. I would recommend tinning the pads first, wicking any excess solder, before soldering any discretes or IC's

      thanks. Yeah I did spend some time with Chucky one evening learning how to better solder SMD . We did a video on Terriblefire's channel where I build a TF1230 under his supervision :)

    Very cool - great work, incredible amount of work too!!! =D Looks really nice with the black case, keys and PCB!

      thanks dude. got cocky though, started a re-Amiga 3000 which will be a lot more problematic :D ... ah well

      @@8bitmanshed That will be cool!!! Any plans for a case for the 3000 board?

      @@GadgetUK164 haha nope . that'll be one of the problematic bits :D . prob will scavenge a pc case from somewhere ... we'll see. At least it'll make for an interesting build :D

    Forget wonky memory modules, your soldering is more competent than mine. I'd love to do this project myself, but I'd probably kill the ICs in the process make it way too expensive.

    1:08:16 Amiga 1200 were white like that though, A500 was more beige brand new. I'm having a tough time getting a new Amiga 1200 case, it's out of stock everywhere. Hopefully a new batch will be made soon, or is this put on hold permanently?

      Bought a new case like 40 Euros over new prices recently... Was waiting for a while for them to become available again, though

  • @davethorne3925

    @8bitmanshed . i know you said this project was expensive but can you give a rough price you paid for the parts for all the soldering bits ?.

    What about an IDE2SATA adapter and use a SSD drive to hold the HD IMAGE, You should get a SATA cable with the IDE2SATA adapter if not purchase one..

    • @8bitmanshed

      easier to get an SCSI adapter for an sd card tbh. I've ended up using the outside port instead. makes it simple to just swap images without having to open the amiga

    It was ideal not to clone the A1200 board, but to make a version similar in design to the A1200, but by removing outdated components(CHIP RAM, ROM,RTC, CPU) and replacing them with more modern versions.

    Which video or guide did you use to make your Workbench HDD setup?

  • @paulklasmann1218

    Did you install ferrites and capacitors to clean up the CPU clock signals? I had to before I could get an accelerator to work reliably. The instructions make no mention of fitting them. Once I fitteed them as per the A1200 "timing mod", it worked fine.

    • @8bitmanshed

      yep I did. The guide mentions all the "birdseeds" so that's including the ferrite beads stuff indeed

    Would it be possible to replicate the custom chips using FPGA's? Or is that too difficult?

    • @ShieTar_

      Possible yes, but it is much more effort than just a CIA. But the Vampire recreation (V4 Standalone) has an the entire Amiga implemented in FPGA, including 68040 CPU and full AGA chipset.

    • @peddersoldchap

      @@ShieTar_ That's very good, but won't help if you have a broken custom chip that needs replacing.

    • @ShieTar_

      @@peddersoldchap I know, but it is proof that is is possible, even for a very small team of people in finite time ;-)
      To get replacement chips, you "only" need somebody to sit down and do all the work to write the VDHL code for any of the custom chips. Which is likely at least a person-year of work, even for somebody already familiar with both VDHL & the AMIGA architecture. And since the market for replacement chips is pretty limited, there is no real commercial motivation here, so somebody would have to do this as a labour of love.
