Even before seeing what the finality was, sometimes two smooth surfaces won't bond. They could need abrasion to bond, steel and wood do not bond well with adhesives. So an attached wooden block on the steel beam meet with the wood on the helmet. Wood with properly applied adhesives can be stronger than wood itself.
So it's real, just required more surface area to attach to.
