    The Red Dog Saloon has a great 1960s rock and roll history and the Silver Stope used to be a major jazz club until the owners raised the rent so high the restaurant owners and musicians had to leave. I lived in VC during the late 80s and early 90s. Still love the place.

      Slab City. It's fascinating, as are the residents. All they ask when visiting is to treat the residents with respect as it is their home. Many are happy to talk if shown due respect.

      The most racist town in the US. If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, look it up.

    I was there in the mid-70s. I had picked up some gold bearing tailings from a mine just outside town, so I took them to an assayer in town. He told me that it would cost more to extract the gold from the ore than it was worth. I’ll bet that’s not the case today! I’d love to revisit the town. It appears to have changed considerably since then.

    • @ExplorationToGo

    The comment at 17:07 is wrong. The map itself is not wrong. The top of the (printed) map is oriented toward West, versus the setup of the map (on the boardwalk) is faced to the EAST. The right side of the map indicates "To Reno" (north), which is correct in relation to everything else on the map - it's just with the map 'flipped', that actual direction on the street, in the video, is to the left (still North).

    They should’ve just kept the roads unpaved in certain areas and laid cobblestones around the walkways, and where the main road runs, they could’ve set up cable cars like the ones in SF, and also conduct horse buggy tours. The buildings are in dire need of maintenance and reconstruction. If these could be accomplished, then Virginia City would definitely look like a historic town that takes you back in time. 👍

    • @ExplorationToGo
      @ExplorationToGo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great suggestions. Walking through the town for the first time gave me that historic feeling, but would love to see those attractions you suggested. Thanks for the comment, really appreciate it 🙂

      You're very welcome. The street isn't that long at all, maybe a 1/4 of a mile long. And I didn't feel any weird feelings walking around the town, it felt very pleasant 😀 Thanks for the comment by the way.
