  • This video is about Installing Chain Adjusters on my 2017 Aprilia Tuono. I would recommend these, they work well and quickly for chain adjustment and add some nice visual appeal to the motorcycle. I rate this a 6-7 out of 10 on a difficulty scale, this would drop to a 4-5 with a friend to help holding some things as you remove and re-install the axle amongst other tasks.
    Tools used;
    4mm & 5mm allen
    10-12-13mm combination wrenches
    32mm socket, note I found that my ancient 1.25 inch socket fit the axle nut better than the mm did!
    Torque wrench (manual says 88 lbs ft on the axle nut)
    Small hammer or "persuader" used with a block of wood
    Synthetic grease for the axle as some protectant against weathering and rust
    Anti-seize grease for the axle nut threads
    Motion Pro, Slack Setter Pro, manual says 30mm on the chain slack, about 1.1".
    Motion Pro, Alignment tool
    Sweat
    I purchased the chain related tools from " Sport Bike Track Gear", as well as the chain adjusters, www.sportbiketrackgear.com.
    Opening sequence filmed by "Albe's Adventures" thanks Albe! Go to his web site and support him..
    I received no compensation or consideration for the work or the tools used in this VLOG.

    Great video Garey. Have just bought my first Tuono V4, aged 53, here in the UK and what a marvellous contrast it is to my Goldwing! Thank you.

      Haha, thanks dude! Yes the Tuono has gentle enough ergonomics that one can ride it at almost any age.....Great machine and nice comment sir.

    Good timing Garey. I ordered the Lightech adjusters after the ZX10 video and now I have your one to help with the install.

    That was some muscle power & sweat to undo the Axle nut. Nice DIY. I am sure the chain alignment now is Arrow straight.

    Look really good Gary. AP workshop our local all ape workshop, recommend 100NM OR about 77ftlb for the axle nut. They have TH-cam and Facebook accounts and put out some great tips, plus very helpful to us on the phones. A great item left for you to change, (next tyres) are some 90degree valves. Tip for the rear to save your knuckles is point valve disc side. Bike sure does concourse ready.😎😎👍🇬🇧

      Thanks DAVE! Really appreciate the tips. And yes, I do love the 90 degree valve stems...they are on the Ducati and save so much time and effort. It is a pain to pressure up the Aprilia tires without them. Definitely on my "to do" list sir.

    Good job, thx for the video. The detailing looks fantastic, how much did you pay for it? I personally use a laser to check the chain alignment. But your method may be as effective and cheaper by far. Looking forward to seeing the next video! Take care and stay healthy

    • @GareyCooperdude

      I paid just under $200...this is expensive I know but I think this is the kind of job you could do once per year to keep the bike in super condition. By the way this includes a "ceramic" coat on the paint/bodywork. One can of course always detail the bike themselves but I very much doubt anyone could get it to this level without some hours of work!

    Have you had any overheating issues in traffic with your tuono? Or when left idling for a period of time. Im talking about rising up to 240+ Fahrenheit. Mine does it with 2k miles curious of your experience with that or if you have the issue. Out in hawaii with a very warm climate i might add.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jesse, yes I have....particularly when it was newer. I am in San Diego and eastwards we have a desert environment with temps getting to 80-90F. In my earlier days of ownership I had the bike trigger off when the heat climbed too high for the sensors......coming to a stop light....wouldn't restart, had to push it to the side and wait for temps to cool before it would start to ride home.
      What helped;
      A. There was a software ECU update that was flashed in by the dealer that helped....not sure of the date but it was within a year of my ownership so maybe 2018?
      B. Installing the Akrapovic exhaust and removal of the exhaust "flapper" valve. This opens up the middle of the engine area and seemed to help with cooling quite a bit. Note that you also change the programming with the exhaust and this may have also had something to do with it?
      But, even after that I kept one eye on the temp gauge in hot weather and when stopped. It seems to be okay when you can get air going over it once again.
      Hope this helps!

    Hi, is it more accurate than the Original adjuster? The Original Markers are Not exact and the rear Wheel is Not straight to front...

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it is more accurate than OEM. The graduations are easier to see and the adjusters are also of the "click" type, that is with each turn you get a click to let you know you've made a full turn.
      I would still recommend getting a chain alignment tool that allows you to sight down the chain as the final word on making sure you have a straight chain.....
      Last comment, they look cool on the machine a nice touch for visual impact.

    • @rowman1328
      @rowman1328 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GareyCooperdude OK nice Sounds good...but Just for my information how have you done the adjustment before? It is hard so synchronize both Sides and keep the Rear wheel straight

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Before I used the marks on the OEM adjuster.....they were a bit hard to make sure they were the same on each side, you just needed to count them individually to where the marker was located. There was also no "click" to show one complete turn of the adjusting screw.......
      But, it is not hard to do.
      My own suggestion would be to buy the alignment tool if one doesn't want to install the after market adjusters.
      Mine is by "Motion Pro" purchased from "Revzilla" for $15.99, very inexpensive.
      By the way the other variable here is slack adjustment........so you need the chain to be straight and at the correct tension.

    Hello Garey, nice bike
    I’m on my second aprilia
    I just bought the CNC chain adjusters for mine
    But I noticed that it has a much smaller piece on the back that’s rest against the swing arm, it’s quite small with very tiny screws
    I can’t see it having any sort of structural function and more of a piece to keep the adjuster in place while the assembly is complete
    But I noticed on the light Teck the piece is much larger, they both have the same mechanism as far as adjusting the slide
    They are both similar in price, I’m not sure about installing the CNC because of this small piece
    Seems it sits flat and snug in the slot like the light Teck and other brands
    Any thoughts on my concerns
    Thanks
    Great bike btw

      Hey TN, so sorry for the delayed response here sir. But I've been traveling for a couple of weeks so just getting back to TH-cam comments. Can you give me a bit o' time to respond here? I need to look at the CNC and mine to make sure I understand the differences here.
      If it gives any comfort in the interim I have not heard of any failures with either company......not that I would necessarily.
      Let me compare the two systems and get back to you.

    Dear Mr. Cooper - two questions. First: Are you 100% sure you need to use the washer? Second: Can you please make a video on how to use the SlackSetter on the Tuono? Much appreciated.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, I can't say 100% about the washers......The thing about a washer is that it will spread the load of compression over a wider area than the nut alone, and it will help to keep from scratches on the underlying surface. But again as far as being 100%, no I can't say this with certainty.
      Sure I will try to do a video on the slack setter!
      Thanks for the comment.
