The animation he created was and still is so impressive that it wouldn’t surprise me that his Animation was rotoscoping before it was considered. May your work be forever Don Lusk
Great video! I'm particularly fond of Alice's fall down the rabbit hole. One of the best scenes in the film! There's one shot not present in this video that I believe deserves special mention: it's the initial fall (before the scene at 1:07) where Alice flips over completely as she waves goodbye to Dinah (she also shouts, "Goodbye, Dinah!" as she flips over). It's so fluid and well-timed that it must have been difficult to pull off.
Probably my favorite bit of his animation is the Model Home on Pleasure Island sequence from Pinocchio, which can be seen at 4:40 there's just so much going on in such a short amount of time it's on screen, it's kind of hard to believe that only one person animated that.
Nice work! Perhaps my personal favourite of Lusk's work is the scenes of Wendy talking the plank in "Peter Pan" seen at the end of the video, with a lot of masterful staging and analysis under one roof.
I have a suggestion for a future Disney animator Hugh Fraser I made several gifs of his work here: imgur.com/search?q=Hugh+Fraser One way to tell his animation apart from the others is when the characters react in shock or horror their heads and eyes would stretch really far
+LuneyTune72 - In this case, there's studio documentation that lists who animated each scene. You can find it on Hans Perk's blog (see link in description).
R.I.P. Don Lusk (1913-2018)
A legendary animator. He lived 105 years. He was at Disney from
1940 to 1961.
And so goes the last link to the greatest era of animation.
The animation he created was and still is so impressive that it wouldn’t surprise me that his Animation was rotoscoping before it was considered. May your work be forever Don Lusk
