    This is super duper valuable! Exactly what I need right now to complete my own project, of which deadline is 5 months left, and to be honest, I can see a whole bunch of work that needs to be done and dont know where to start. This video makes things look much more easier to complete. Thank you so so much!

    First off, I just want to say how awesome it is to see Chris step back to allow his team to take over content. I don't feel like Ben and Matt are offering watered down topics either; they're able to put the lessons they've learned from Chris through their own filter to make meaningful content.
    Secondly, I think this is an awesome introduction to project management. I like that complex issues are broken down and there are examples to illustrate it at work. Do you guys use this same level of management or do you go more granular (listing progress percentage, like with a gantt chart) the more complex a project gets? If you guys stick to this model for complex projects also, have you had issues with transparency or accountability and how did you address them?

    This was really helpful. Somehow, I managed to go through Architecture School without managing my time (guess teachers made those phases for us in weekly assigments) and now that I'm on my own, I realize I want to and need to do sooooo many things in order to get better and get a job, that I didn't know where to start, and was jumping from one task to another. I started making a huuuuuuuuuuuge tasks plan, as Chris Do suggests in the whiteboards classes about goals, and prioritize all, but I didn' know if I was overstepping by writting down tasks that would lead me to months of work. So this video confirms I'm in a good path and all I need is hard work and patience. Thank you very, very much. This videos are really usefull. You are people of LIGHT guiding us. :_____)

Have you ever come across - Biycarlett Astounded Builder - (do a google search ) ? It is a good exclusive product for discovering how to download thousands of business and project management templates without the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my partner got great results with it.

    Nice overview of waterfall. Got any things on the Agile project mangagement process?

    • @mrbenburns
      @mrbenburns 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex are you in digital? Agile is great, and we've adopted a lot of principles from there, but it's definitely not a one-size fits all solution. For fixed-fee, deliverable-based work, it juuuuust doesn't fit. For digital projects that have a lot of iterations, we love Scrum (agile is more of a philosophy than a process).

    • @robbytrione
      @robbytrione 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrbenburns This is really cool. Seems like a nice hybrid of waterfall and agile. I'm also really interesting in an agile approach to production. Did y'all experiment with a full on Agile approach to determine that it wouldn't work? It seems like the main difference is that waterfall is linear and agile allows you to iterate. I don't have a whole lot of experience with Agile, but what I've been studying claims that time and price are fixed but deliverables can shift. I haven't been able to find much on this subject in our field.

    Sigh. I try doing this. But clients are usually at fault for delaying things. So our team ends up starting phase 2 whole phase 1 still hasn’t been agreed on just to make an already unrealistic deadline

    • @thefutur
      @thefutur  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How are handling the delays? Are you charging them overages?

    • @digital4ddict
      @digital4ddict 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Futur I work client side. Haha. I believe the problem is that it is not communicated how much work the client, or internal stakeholder, needs to put in.

    • @mrbenburns
      @mrbenburns 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Put client feedback on the calendar as a chunk. Allow for X amount of days. That's their "to-do." When those days are up, charge an overage. Communicate what feedback you need very precisely.

      Build that into your timeline - I've worked with companies that give two estimates on when the project will be complete depending on our (the client) responsiveness to approving/revising work. I think that's totally fair and will keep us honest if we want our website, logo, etc. to launch on time :)
