  • Jan interviews Greg to highlight daily strip-grazing tricks that make it easy and quick. There are a host of tasks on grazing farms that are made easier with simple tricks that we have picked up over the years.
    Hope to see some of you at the Powerflex Retail Store grand opening at Seymour Missouri on July 12-13th. 20% discount on in-store purchases, free prizes, free food & drink, product vendors. I will be giving some grazing talks on Friday and I will be taking questions and answers on Saturday,

    That trick with the poly on the side of the reel saved me from a complete meltdown in the middle of loading a cow. You always have useful info on your channel, thank you and have a wonderful day.

    Great tip, thanks! I wear gloves when I walk my reel and I always keep my thumb pressed against the reel to add friction for the same reason.

    One of the reel companies should design an adjustable screw-in friction pad. I think Greg should design a reel! "The Judy Reel"

    Good video. I’m pushing for more grazing & feeding up here south east Saskatchewan.
    Rain taps shut off here again. 1” all of June.

    First! Thanks for the video! We have been getting rain too not like your kind rain though. We got 3/8” of rain one day then the next day we got another 3/8”.

    Jan you bring so much enhancement to the video glimpses into your lives at GPF each time you get to do it. Thanks
    Also I got to see (drive by) the mobile herd again this week, one of two I'm aware of in mid-state (the only two I've ever seen in person ever). I hope that fellow is doing half as well with his stock as Greg does and teaches. Some day I'll be on my own time and try to catch him and have a brief conversation.

    How many months old are grass fed South Poll cattle when they are taken to market?

    I was just curious.. when you hook up your hot wire, does it have to make a complete circuit back to its self? Will it be hot terminated to cold just like you have it? I assume the ground must complete a circuit around the whole farm.

    • @georgeheller2281
      @georgeheller2281 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      An animal, or person touching the hot and standing on the ground completes the circuit.

    • @wadepatton2433
      @wadepatton2433 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Your completion of circuit is the earth, the ground. You ONLY want that completed circuit when something touches the hot fence. This is why electric fence systems draw "zero" energy through the power meter. The entire system is based on potential energy. As George says in the other comment-the circuit is only completed when the hot is shorted to ground--it could be an animal, a person, a weed. Momentary completion of the circuit is how it is designed. Putting ground wires into the fence itself is simply a way to provide EASY access to very strong jolt when anything completes the circuit. If something continually completes the circuit (weeds, old fence wire, metal t-post with broken insulator, tree limb, etc.) then it will be far less effective with less power to put into animals when they touch it. Clean and hot is what makes keeps electric fences functional. High-voltage with very low amperage is very shocking-but not physically harmful.

    QUESTION. We live in ozarks lots of rock cant get fence posts in how do you deal with pasture full of rock

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Use sharpened O’Brien posts and focus on placing them into a large clump of fescue grass. Normally you can get them in 2-3 inches. If not, your stuck using steel ree rod posts with plastic insulators. Drive them in with a hammer is your best bet.

    Any tricks to make it easier to get the polybraid from the spool to the reels?

    • @wadepatton2433
      @wadepatton2433 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Greg has several videos specifically on fencing. They're way back, but a channel search will pop them right out.

      I searched and the first one to show a spool going onto the reel is Rising Oaks Family Farm. Looks easier than the spool in a tote or barrel like i tried. Looks like the spool on a sewing machine top. Thanks!

      ding ding ding!!!
      Yes, and I'm pretty sure he knows that--BUT that with "hanky mod" to prevent overrun, I'd say that over-fillied reels aren't as much of a problem.

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher

      I know it’s completely filled, but we keep about 1/3rd of our reels this way for our longer daily runs on paddocks.

      I too noticed the reel was too full with poly braid. When I came upon this comment from Wade I went back and edit out my comment to Greg. See Greg we are remembering what you have taught us and we pay attention to the details. You should be proud of your students?😂
