I'm using a 2020' RL35 Gold A1 on my full AM (Currently on 160 mm front), and I'm in love with this thing.. is butter smooth and responds well to every little adjust I do depending where I ride.. on the price range I can't think of a better fork. For all these years had been working flawless and mainentinence has been quite easy and affordable to make.
Good video guys it's great to see you reviewing some decent forks. The rockshox gold is a great fork I personally have a lyric ultimate and believe me you can tell the difference between the two. In regards to rebound if you run it too slow what happens is it starts to pack down after repeated hits meaning it doesn't have time to return to full travel before it compresses again that's why you shouldn't have rebound too slow plus it will make fork a bit more supple
This was a fun one to watch and got me all excited as I just picked up a used Rockshox Yari to replace the hella heavy Fox Van 36 coil fork on my Trek. I had to order a front axle shim to go from 20mm to 15mm axle, just waiting impatiently for that to arrive haha. Cheers to you Wolf Man and Tick and all of the WOLFTICK Nation!
Guys this was probably for me one of the best episodes as i own both forks, i truly think you guys did a really great review for both forks. I my experience the Rock Shox takes it on a fully squish bike or at least it is what i have on my Giant Trance the feel and feedback just matches the rear shock i have (Suntour Unair trunion mounted shock (believe it or not)) i a far more predictable performance from the Rock Shox up front. I actually replaced the Suntour Aion with the Rock Shock and instantly got a better feel. However the Aion makes my "Project VooDoo HooDoo" feel like a mosern day slack headed hardcore hardtail which suits me to down to the core. Thanks guys for one awesome CHannel that really picks my day up as i work out in the middle east (iraq) and only get home to UK every 8 weeks for about 3 and a half weeks, so i dont get a lot of time to ride much or build up my project bike. What you guys do is amazing keep it going guys and so well done my favourite TH-cam channel by far. An absolute life saver and helps me keep my sanity.

Believe me take it to a bike park and you will feel a night and day difference between a lyric ultimate and the 35. The 35 feels like a holding on to a jackhammer there is a lot of compression spikes It just cannot handle that fast of a repeat hits and it starts sounding and rattling like a cheap fork in comparison. But yes I agree for your everyday trail rider who isn't sending it or pushing super hard You're not really going to notice a difference between these forks. But personally if I bought a bike and it came with 35 that fork is going right out and and being sold.
This is my opinion based the MoCo damper which packs up on multiple hits. The structure of the fork is fine. It's stiff, long-lasting, although an immediate service to check it has the correct oil in any RS fork straight out of the factory is advised (my lower right leg of my last RS fork was missing it's oil, and there are numerous comments about this situation online) The MoCo damper is okay for smoother, man-made trails, and bike parks. But if you're going high speed on natural terrain, down rough mountains, or across 'rock gardens' you're going to get your arms beaten up. With RockShox, where I live, you buy a fork, then have to almost spend 100% more on a Charger damper and fitting to get a proper fork. Then you find there are no parts in the country. If you then buy an SR Suntour Durolux with both high and low speed compression/rebound knobs, this situation with the MoCo damper becomes obvious. Any MoCo equipped fork isn't an upgrade option. It's an OEM fork to lower the price of an off-the-shelf bike. A calculated money-making trigger from the manufacturer. And a possible failure if the distributors in your country run out of stock of parts.
Hey first time watcher here, you guys outta Arkansas?? Hot Springs local, replacing my stolen MTB and just moved back from Fort Worth. Just pulled the trigger on the Voodoo Bizango Pro and it comes with this fork. Thanks for the overview!
I disagree on the point of more expensive forks. Me and a riding buddy both have the exact same bikes except mine is a slightly higher spec version which comes with a Fox 36 instead of the Rockshox 35 and the difference is definitely noticeable. The 36 is a full pound lighter while having beefier stanchions and a stiffer chassis, feels more plush while providing better mid stroke support and less tendency to dive under hard braking. The rebound adjustment range is wide and every click makes a noticeable difference and the 3 position GRIP damper feels more sophisticated in it's damping. The Fox 36 is nearly twice the price of the RS 35 but it also feels twice as good, it's definitely worth it if you can afford it.
Just brought a 35 RL 160 love it . Early days obviously. It replaced a XCR suntour 140 . My wrist are happy again. Got a rockshox revelation RL on my cotic bfe 26 ain't dead 11 years & two services. Smooth . Great shoxs .
I got to demo a Marin Rift Zone 3 with the Marzocchi Z2 fork and it felt so good! From what I recall it was very lightweight which made the bike feel super playful. I was planning to buy the Marin, but decided to wait and have been building bikes instead. If I could find a used Z2 at a good price I would scoop that up in an instant.
The Marzocchi Z2 has to be the most under rated fork on the market especially at the just over $400 pricepoint. I just upgraded mine from 130 mm to 150 mm on my 2020 Cannondale Habit I built. OH MY is it so so so nice...
The Z2 still comes with non-replaceable bushings inn the lowers that mean you have to try and source half the fork as replacement if they wear? (and they do!)
Love the review got a 120mm I’m looking forward to trying out! quick question guys, you don't happen to know if a 11-speed cassette will fit on the stock GT Aggressor wheel? I'm thinking of upgrading to an 11-speed shimano SLX groupsett from my 8-speed Box 4 groupset.
Yes, it has debon air but the charger damper do the thing. I have a Rockshox Revelation 150mm travel from 2021 with motion control and debon air spring and it-s about the same fork, awesome fork for the money, But i tried a Pike with the charger damper and offer so much confort and suport.
It’s funny, this fork would of been World Cup level in 2014. MoCo was the bees knees back in the day. However charger 2.1 big improvement for really smashing longer descents. Big butt… as soon as you ride high and low speed damper, everything feels average….. also I would love to see this in slow motion if you could…

How would I go about learning to do jumps on my full suspension bike? I’m 38yrs old and am dying to try bigger jumps then 1 foot high but am a panzy and can’t afford to get injured too much lol 😁 I don’t have a pool or I’d full send into that shit lol
🤣🤣 Full send!! Lol Man that's great, now from first hand experience i started very small and it really helped to ride with people who knew how to jump. Watching is very helpful, it os a little different considering your not riding a hardtail. Jumping a full squish can be quite scary especially when the rear pops up on ya! When jumping the smalls, work on control. Let the weight of the bike preload your fork, lean back when the front tire leaves stay steady and as you feel the back tire leaving right before the rear shock pops, stand more upright. Then let the bike level out and 💥 YOUR A PROFESSIONAL NOW 😉 Bit really man, for me it was watching and just sending it, one of the best feelings in the world to hit a table top perfect. No wonder you had to run the rebound almost fully open - you have the air spring pressure quite low (for proper sag value). With higher air spring pressures the rebound range adjustment will be different (it will move towards the faster range). I've had that fork for over a year, I am a light rider, too. I had similar observations, but I think that the rebound adjustment range is enough. There is no need to have the rebound set to the extreme values (very fast or very slow), because this kind of settings are just useless during the ride.
Really nice fork! It was working hard enough that it looked like your teeth should be chattering, but you sounded like you were just cruising a boardwalk. I wish I could have afforded something like it back when I rode hard enough to warrant it.
