I appreciate showing us the process fellas. I don’t play in the world of multi thousand dollar cards, but I know the feeling of selling a few keepers to land a card you’ve been looking for. Congratulations 🍻
Thanks! We couldve done this same video a couple years back about buying the Update Batting SSP. That was a our biggest card at the time and I was terrified. This one feels special. Thanks for watching!
This was a great episode. You two know how to craft a story. (And good use of the ticking clock conceit to add to the drama and suspense.) Don’t ask us residing here in the comments to judge your decision. You both said it at the end. No regrets. What we think doesn’t matter. (That being said, I do think you did the right thing here.) 😁 My question is, how did you decide who gets to be the keeper of such a card? Do you each have partial custody? Does it end up going to a safe deposit box at a neutral site? Your joint collecting enterprise is somewhat rare, so I’m very curious what your ground rules are for display, storage, and safe keeping.
Thanks for watching! Great question - yeah its a very unusual situation. We do indeed share a safety deposit box, so thats where the shared cards reside. Sadly, it means we don't get to see them in person very often, but its the safest solution for now.
Jeff & Chris, Outstanding job on this video and on getting that absolutely beautiful blue BC Ohtani. In my opinion you 100% correct in doing so, and even by consolidation. I think it's a good healthy thing for collectors to do even though it's hurts while doing it. Congrats again on your show and that sweet card !
What a great video ! It’s amazing how you balanced the thrill of the find (Collector lens) with the hard work of the deal (Investor side). That Ohtani is simply off the hook ! Congrats Chris & Jeff 🎉🎉
This was a great video. I really appreciate that you guys specified exact cards, how you sold them, and even what you sold them for. This is extremely helpful for other collectors, so thanks for sharing. I often like to lean into diversifying, but this isn’t one of those cases. That card is just freakin stellar! Congrats

Glad I've been watching because I know the pain is real, notably on the cheaper cards. But the reward is amazing, congrats!!! BTW, one vote for y'all to stick with this 70s version of the theme, true banger.
Honestly, this was outstanding. Really loved the timeline breakdown and thought processes behind each move. Really gutsy move, nothing but respect. Cheers to you both and congrats! 🍻
This was a badass video! Loved seeing how the process of buying it played out. That's gotta be one of the best cards ever. Most expensive card I have is $6K and I'm lucky that my wife didn't kill me either. Good thing she doesn't know! Glad you guys are alive and well, keep up the great content!
Beautiful card gents. Awesome walkthrough as well. I know the feeling as I got an out of 25 auto Ohtani from 2022 and it’s a 10 and have thought about trades but never pulled the trigger. Chris you can breath now because that my friend is a Beast of a card you guys got!!! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
I enjoy both the arguments. Without having owned any of the cards you sold or bought makes my argument a bit stale, in other words I wouldn't mind owning any of them. But, at the same time, I have been thinking of consolidating some of my collection to add a few higher end pieces. So, I am 75% on board with the Ohtani decision... Thanks for the great video of both your 5 day journey, the thought of it makes me reach for the Tums...😂😂 STAY CALM and OHTANI ON... God Bless you both...
Congrats on the card, it looks awesome! I've actually been in the process of selling some of my collection to consolidate into a big card as well, and hearing how you decided between the Freeman and the Ohtani definitely gave me food for thought as I'm also kind of in the spot of having to choose between a few cards I don't really want to sell. Really appreciate your guys' perspective and thought process.
Thanks so much for watching and for the thoughtful comment. It’s definitely a tough process, but ultimately very rewarding. Good luck on your consolidation journey!
Really loved hearing about the process in detail. One of my favorite videos since I got back into the hobby in 2020. Congratulations on your grail card, guys! Super cool!!
Thanks for watching - really appreciate it. I need my blood pressure to come down a little bit before we do more like this lol. I lost like 3 lbs last week, getting these cards sold! But hopefully, more to come!
Great vid… Thanks for being so transparent with the process and prices. Some content creators feel a need to keep everything secret for some reason. Now you got the Ohtani in the correct color. Dodger Blue!!!!
Thanks for watching! I learned from a couple collectors I know being very specific and detailed with me so we;re hoping people can learn something from us or just enjoy the ride! Your right about the color! The Green refractor just looks too Christmassy to me. IDK. That's probably dumb, but we love the blue.
Congrats on the card! I did the same. I had a base 2011 bowman chrome Bruce Harper auto in a 9.5. Upgraded it to a refractor in a psa 9. Sold my 9.5 and another card to do it. Again congrats guys!🎉
Congrats guys! Stunning card. To have one of the best cards in the world of the greatest player (potentially) ever - damn! That’s a fun way to drop 15 grand. Have a feeling you’re going to be looking at that card a lot over the years.
Solid move imo. The crazy thing is I can totally relate to the experience (not quite on that level monetarily) and understand the excitement 100%. It's a sickness and I'm glad I'm not alone.!😂😂
Amazing video y’all. Cheers for sending it and getting what you’ve been after! I just picked up his warm up jersey RC image variation in an SGC 9. I had to sell a few cards (not 15k lol) but wanted it forever
Congrats gentlemen. I’m sure selling those cards felt like a gut punch, but I’m also sure you’re enjoying watching Ohtani go ballistic with that beautiful BCA Blue Refractor in hand. 🍻 I’ve got my eye on a special Ohtani and would either have to start selling like you did or hire Fund Your Cards to help.
Sweet saga. You’ll always remember getting this card. That gold minted Ohtani made me slobber on myself looking at it. Amazing card. But so is the one you bought.
I don't blame you guys one bit. I definitely would have sold the cards you did to get your grail 2018 Shohei Ohtani auto. To me, that's his best RC image and the Ohtanis have no where to go but up. Heck of a pick up! ⚾ 🇺🇲
I think you did well, especially being able to move alot of ohtani into a bigger ohtani, then if anything ever drops his prices it wont hurt as bad, im just glad you didnt have to move out of the Freeman, i know that would really hurt! Feels at the moment though like you guys are holding a generational card, gongrats!
@@fated316 benefit is selling Ohtani to buy Ohtani is that if he takes off or falls flat, we feel like it’s all the cards moving. That said, I wish we had the means to front the money and wait a month lol.
That card is beautiful. I think it's the right thing. This is what all the work is for. On a side note, I sent Jeff a email a week ago. I'm not sure if it got filtered to the spam folder or whatnot
Congrats guys...Great story. 2 questions 1. Never a thought of fronting the money and then selling cards to recoup? 2. Are we cracking it and moving it over to PSA? Seems this may have been a conversation.
1) That's always a thought, but in this case, it was just too much money for us to be able to front. 2) Definitely have to consider! Thanks for watching!
Awesome pickup that's a crazy card. The only card you sold that kinda made me say whoa was the Harper. I only say this because yes it's rare but you were already trading to a big Shohei so I think that card would have hurt me the most. Still an awesome trade up, great job guys!
It definitely hurt. I like cards like that Harper - sneaky rare, maybe have to explain about it sometimes - but sadly, we had to sell what we could sell.
Out of all the cards you sold, That Soto gold wow. No way I could have parted with that. I would have sold freeman red before the Soto, and I’m a diehard Braves fan.
Great video! Interesting commentary on the Juan Soto. I pulled a 2019 Chrome Future Stars Orange #/25, which is on-card. It's not slabbed, but I've always wondered where it sits given there aren't many comps on that card. Would love to hear your perspective.
I like it! I have a 2019 Topps Chrome Acuna 1984 Auto - also on card! On 8/25 a 2019 Orange 1984 Soto auto in a PSA 9 sold for $252. That's also orange and #/25 so I'd say its a good comp for your card. That sale was on PWCC/FanaticsCollect.
Haven’t we had enough stress?!?! Having said that, we are considering. I think it could easily get a Psa 9, which would nice value boost. But the grading is expensive and it’s not going anywhere. So no rush! Thanks for watching!!
I like both images of Ohtani with a mild preference for the iconic pitching..... something about that one....cool story ~ I have a good reference for a divorce attorney... he swaps Soto and Judge for service.
The pitching should get bonus points for coming first as well. Tehcnically, that would be his "first Bowman." That Lawyer - haha no way!! I may need his contact info down the road...
1:29. We talking about the Ohtani card here or wedding vows? On that note, how did you guys split up custody on the Ohtani? Chris has it on weekends? Agree on your logic...I like both pitching/batting Ohtanis but the batting is *the*card. Dude has too many rookies as we all know, and going with the best of the best is the play, budget allowing. The blue really pops. Love it. Very secular too. Zero Christmas action going on here. Lastly, Chris, if you were shot during the Soto car deal, at least your obit would have read "He died doing what he loved."
😂😂😂 You’re exactly right! Dealing baseball cards is an honorable way to go out. 💯 Ohtani does have so many rookies. Seems like thousands. Agreed that this image, this set, is THE ONE. As far as custody goes, the real owner is technically a safe deposit box.
Great video fellas. Looks like you guys took it kind of hard to let that 2020 1985 auto go, especially Chris. My question is, what was it about that card, aside from the image, that made it so difficult to part with? Without a doubt that's the card that hurt the most, we can tell!
Thanks so much for watching! And yeah, you're right about that card. It was hard to let go of because at the heart of it all, Chris and I are suckers for the nostalgia of collecting baseball cards. That card, in the 1985 design (but with CHROME and an AUTO!), brought us right back to when we were kids smack dab in the middle of the junk era -- though no one would call it that for decades. And only be numbered to 20, we know we likely won't have another shot at one. But, that was just one of the tough decisions we had to make when we decided to go after our grail card.
Big Congrats 🎉 I bet the stress and moments of the selling cards card by card cannot be underestimated with timescale alongsid. Im not sure i would of been able to do same if im honest. 👍
I lost 3 points during the week. Very stressful. I was honest with my wife about what we were doing so she was more interested than usual in what was going to the post office! Thanks!
Congrats on the deals. Chris probably went through a sweat towel a day until the $15k was raised. NO REGERTS! “Not even one letter?” (We’re the Millers movie reference.)
Two towels on Friday!! Absolutely sweating!! And by the way, I put NO REGERTS in the video, but changed it because I wasnt convinced people would get the reference and Id just look stupid!! haha
Super impressed you moved $15k in cards that quickly. I would have been stressing. My wife watched the video with me. She said I would have 100% been heading towards divorce if I bought a $15k card and I wasn’t able to sell 15k worth to pay for it.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin facts. I was nervous for you. Anytime I spend over grand on a card. I have to walk my wife through step by step how I paid for it by selling other cards 🤣
Sick card I have a topps chrome purple rc auto I'm afraid to mail and get graded. I won mine awhile back for commenting on a TH-cam giveaway before was worth a ton.
Congrats guys. My only question is...with it being a long term hold, could you have got it cheaper in the off-season possibly as opposed to right before he hits 50/50. Based off the fact you mentioned you sold an Ohtani at a higher than last comp price. 15 seems to be a good price though now that I'm looking. So maybe it wouldn't have came down much if any. Either way, gorgeous card and thanks for making my pickups this week look like Billy Butler.
Thanks for commenting! And that was definitely discussed. We went now for a couple reason: 1) Ohtani is kind of a unicorn so not sure how big his off season lull will be, especially with him looking to be back on the mound in 2025 and 2) Maybe more importantly, we just didn’t know if we’d get another chance at this particular card. They might be tied up in PCs by the off-season.
Amazing Pick Up Fellas. I’ll take good care of the Gold Minted, I promise. I’ll bring it to the Burbank show next year so you can hold it again, if that makes it easier 😂. Jokes aside, awesome pick up, congrats.
Great video guys and congrats! Had me thinking about The Simpsons episode where they pool the money to buy a rare Radioactive Man No. 1 comic only to find out they all want to take it home haha. But I’m sure you guys have a plan in place?
I've done this process many time myself. Good job avoiding the eBay fees. Why do you think the batting image will be the preferred 2018 Ohtani? I feel like the pitching was always the more classic and the first one chased. But the blue is really cool. I'd def. consider crossing it over to PSA. The BGS silver with gold auto flip is obnoxious IMO. Not sure you did the right thing, but you did it the right way.
Appreciate the feedback! Ohtani's hitting cards just seem to perform better (look at his Chrome Rookie Debut vs the base), and we like the image better, but long term, who knows?? And yeah, would love to get it in a PSA Slab!
Hey guys, love the video, trying my best to get in on a 2018 stadium club auto of shohei as it's my personal favorite rookie of his. What do you guys think of his japanese cards? Do you own any or are there any that you like/think are cool in particular?
Hey there, thanks for watching! That 2018 Stadium Club is a great card, and man those autos are pricey -- good luck on the hunt! Chris and I do not have any of Ohtani's Japanese cards and we don't know much about them, so no help for you there.
congratulations guys! definitely the right move! One thing I will say is too bad you couldn't have moved more Soto than Ohtani because if Soto does leave the Yanks his values will if nothing else stagnate imo but awesome move regardless!
Thank you! And thanks for the feedback- yeah, I hear you on Soto. Just needed a lot of money quickly so our options were limited. Really hoping he stays in NY.
Congratulations on the purchase. Not knowing the full history of your collections (separate and combined), does it being a 5-figure purchase have a different mental approach to a high-4, low-4 etc ? I definitely have a number/price that becomes a tough decision /psychological barrier for me when I’m looking to buy… but it’s like… mid-3 figures 😝
Yes, 💯! We don’t dabble in the 5 figure card markets, but this seemed like a great opportunity and maybe our last to grab one of these cards. The main difference was we needed the money up front. It’s Too much to put down and then pay back. Couldn’t risk struggling to pay it back!
Sold $15,000 worth of cards, but you have to be in the Red with the Graphics Budget for this video, lol. The Bowman Ohtani is awesome. It's hard to let cool cards go but I would have done the same if I had the opportunity.
The 85 design Ohtani and that Freeman red are tough losses but that’s how it goes. Great video. How do you manage custody of your new beautiful baby boy?
If you have a chance, I was wondering your thoughts of spending money a single card of one player vs multiple cards of that player.i used to buy the best card I could afford but recently my thanking started to change. One negative I see, is that if you need to free up cash, you'll have to sell the only card of that player you own. Would you rather have a Red Bowman Chrome auto of a player or a Gold, Black, Blue, and a Refractor, or whatever might make it equal
That's a really interesting perspective. I hadn't thought about it that way. it's a tough decision. Holding any true reds would be incredible and almost impossible to pass up. And if the player has a great career and his cards increase, the red will increase the most - just look at the recent betts and harper sales! A betts Red refractor auto just sold for like $125k. His golds haven't hit $20k yet. I think you'd have to take the red in your scenario. Once you get past gold though, and its a question of like a blue or maybe a couple refractors, then it gets a little more difficult.
Hey Brett! Welcome to the channel. We each have our own collections, but initially decided to go in together of some bigger cards, and now our combined collection is actually pretty large!
Driving home from work in a downpour listening to this was extremely tense. (Mainly because I didn't want to hear the name "Machado" mentioned) Chris, you looked physically bothered at the mention of some of those cards. I hope my PC collection grows to a point one day where I too will have to make such a tough decision. Congratulations on your grail chase and victory.
We’ve been friends for a loong time and live about 5 minutes away from each other so it’s an unusual situation for sure. Just makes sense for us. Limits each of our individual risk. Thanks for checking out the video!
Shhh, that’s what I’m going after next! 😂 Love Soto long term too (if he stays in NY), and he will prob have a bigger career WAR, but Ohtani has a HUGE worldwide market that we think will keep his hobby value elevated. Thanks for watching.
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin 💯. For me personally, I don’t like putting my eggs all in one basket either. Hate playing what if’s but if his market tanks (I.E. bad injury, steroid allegation, etc., it would be tough for me.

Killed it, eazy money, great upgrade! BALLN
Thanks!
🍻🍻
Awesome pickup that's a crazy card. The only card you sold that kinda made me say whoa was the Harper. I only say this because yes it's rare but you were already trading to a big Shohei so I think that card would have hurt me the most. Still an awesome trade up, great job guys!
It definitely hurt. I like cards like that Harper - sneaky rare, maybe have to explain about it sometimes - but sadly, we had to sell what we could sell.
Congrats, guys!!!
Thank you!!
Out of all the cards you sold, That Soto gold wow. No way I could have parted with that. I would have sold freeman red before the Soto, and I’m a diehard Braves fan.
I hear you! That was a tough one to move. 😅 Thanks for watching!
I think you guys definitely made a good decision. 🎉
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Great video guys!
Thanks, Scott! 😅
Awesome video!
Thanks for watching!
HUGE CONGRATS! Definitely tough to move all those great cards but I think it was well worth it. Now crack that BGS slab and cross it! 😂
Haven’t we had enough stress?!?!
Having said that, we are considering.
I think it could easily get a Psa 9, which would nice value boost.
But the grading is expensive and it’s not going anywhere. So no rush!
Thanks for watching!!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin HAHA good point! Absolutely no rush with a card like this. Excited to see what you guys do!
@@CDGSports 🍻🍻
I like both images of Ohtani with a mild preference for the iconic pitching..... something about that one....cool story ~ I have a good reference for a divorce attorney... he swaps Soto and Judge for service.
The pitching should get bonus points for coming first as well. Tehcnically, that would be his "first Bowman."
That Lawyer - haha no way!!
😂😂😂
You’re exactly right! Dealing baseball cards is an honorable way to go out. 💯
Ohtani does have so many rookies.
The 2013 Japan rookie is THE card!
There are definitely some that feel that way, but we stick to his US releases, for better or worse! Thanks for watching!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin We all have our holy grail, happy hunting!

Big Congrats 🎉
I bet the stress and moments of the selling cards card by card cannot be underestimated with timescale alongsid.
You can tell your wife there are at least 2 other wives who completely agreed!
Wow! What a great story, congrats on a beauty!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin great card yes some of them would have been rough to part with. In the long term great choice he's going places!
If you don't want to send it, you should look for a show near you with PSA drop off service. They have events/locations on their website.
The running tally on screen is very Storage Wars.
Haha, true! Thanks for watching!
Love it!
Thank you! 💪🏼
Amazing Pick Up Fellas. I’ll take good care of the Gold Minted, I promise. I’ll bring it to the Burbank show next year so you can hold it again, if that makes it easier 😂. Jokes aside, awesome pick up, congrats.
Oh man, it will NOT make it easier!! haha
I look forward to seeing your completed Gold Minted Run!
Great video guys and congrats! Had me thinking about The Simpsons episode where they pool the money to buy a rare Radioactive Man No. 1 comic only to find out they all want to take it home haha. But I’m sure you guys have a plan in place?
That’s a great one!
Poor Millhouse just wanted the Carl Yastrzemski with the sideburns!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Appreciate it!
congratulations guys! definitely the right move!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin oh I totally hear you. Unreal card. Grand slam deal!
@@teddo997 🙏🏼
Great pickup! Crack and send to PSA?
Thank you! Tempting 🥵😅
Sold $15,000 worth of cards, but you have to be in the Red with the Graphics Budget for this video, lol.
The Bowman Ohtani is awesome. It's hard to let cool cards go but I would have done the same if I had the opportunity.
DEEP in the red LOL
The 85 design Ohtani and that Freeman red are tough losses but that’s how it goes. Great video. How do you manage custody of your new beautiful baby boy?
Got distracted. Kids spraying juice everywhere. Glad you kept the red Freddie
Thanks for watching. These moves are never easy.
Custody of this one belongs to a safety deposit box!
Haha!! Thanks!
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin I really like that 85 retro design Ohtani. Like you said. Value is in the beholder. Maybe I’ll attain that card eventually
Sweeeet card! :)) Do you guys guys buy and sell ouside of Ebay often?
As often as possible!
Thanks! 🍻🍻
@@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin Great! What is the best way to do that, with safety / trust established for both parties? I hate the Ebay fee structure now!
@Blabbin_Bout_Slabbin ohhh yeah a red Betts or Harper sounds nice!
First time watcher. So you guys have a combined collection or just went in together on a few big cards?
I was absolutely physically bothered!! hahaha It HURTS!!!
Thank you!
Dude. I have number 117. Haha awesome.
No way! 🙌🏼
Dang that’s a lot of dough! Congratulations
😅🥵 Thanks, man!
Gave up a Shohei glutes card... what a sacrifice.
Chris may never recover! 🍑
Is there a video somewhere on this channel where you explain how this apparently shared collection works? The history and reasoning behind it, etc.
We’ve been friends for a loong time and live about 5 minutes away from each other so it’s an unusual situation for sure. Just makes sense for us. Limits each of our individual risk.
Thanks for checking out the video!

Thank you! 🙏🏼
Holy nostrils on that photo used. Congratulationa on the pickup.
Ha! Yeah, not a great angle for a photo.
Gorgeous card! Would rather have a BC Soto Color Auto with spare change given his age/career WAR/potential if he resigns with NY but that’s just me.
Is it still gonna be SSP Thursday?
😮
Just kidding 🎉🎉congratulations you guys great card ❤
