For a wedding present (1982), we were gifted a beautiful brown log cabin quilt hand quilted by Amish women in Lancaster, PA. The friends in the ChemE department who were invited chipped in and gave us that quilt. We opened it at the reception per their request. I was blown away and very moved. That quilt had what I imagine to be at least a 14" brown border on it. It was gorgeous! The blocks covered our double bed and came down probably six inches on all four sides. That border brought it very close to the floor. I agree that borders are a great way to enlarge a quilt.
We have a 10 foot long arm. We are retired and he has learned to do all the computer work. I chose the patterns and select the thread colors. We discuss pattern locations and he goes to work. We don’t have a business but enjoy doing Quilts of Valor and charity quilts for friends. We have been married 60 years and enjoy working together ❤️. Thanks for all you do for the quilting community. Barbara
I have also struggled with squaring up Quilts so I appreciate this other listener’s question. As I am a visual learner It would be sew helpful to have a quick video demonstration of squaring up. Thanks for another fun podcast. And now I need to know what happened to Opal. Did she go to that muddy pigsty in the sky?
For increasing a border without just adding strips, it’s fun to add checkerboards, flying geese, or half square triangles. I loved Chelsie’s two quilts so much, I stopped TH-cam and went and purchased them I have so much of your fabric, I think I will use several of your pattern lines to make the log cabin quilt. Love your podcast. Congratulations Billy on your upcoming marriage.
I was going to suggest the same, the piece and quilt sampler from Susan Ache and Lisa Alexander has half square triangles as a border. Lori holt also does scalloped borders on her quilt patterns
Love your show or podcast. I watch on my cable tv. I'm new. Been sewing for years & now deciding to learn more about making quilt blocks soon. I like all your tips & suggestions. Thanks. Jo Manuel from slidell, Louisiana.
Oh my goodness, that was my Apple Podcast review! I had been in the process of binge re-listening to all of the episodes while beginning a dicey navigation through what would soon be a breast cancer diagnosis. Waiting for test results, I let the playlist run while throwing quilt top after quilt top together, diverting myself as best I could with their happy, familiar vibe, tips and tricks and general quilting to-do. The episode where Billy had been lovingly teased for his devotion to his dog had been the last I'd played (sorry for the lack of context, there!) that day, and it gave me such a laugh I'd so needed, I finally remembered that I ought to write a review, because they so richly deserved some extra support for all the comfort and smiles they'd helped me find during such a difficult time, and would continue to as I moved forward. Today was no exception. I am four-days past a double mastectomy and on the road to recovery as I write this. Sherri, Chelsi and Billy, if you ever wonder if you make a difference in this world outside of your trades, please know that you do. Thank you. 💜
Awwhhh what a wonderful, positive and encouraging testament to getting through a trial🥰 I wish you love, hugs, and prayers during this. God has a plan for each of us. He is beside us each step of every season. ✝️🙏🏻💐❤️😀
@@rachelburgener819 thank you so very much for your kind words, support, prayers and reminder. Indeed, we all have a path, and we are not alone on it. 😌💜🙌🏻
I love how Chelsi gets so tickled at things!! This may get taken off, but I have a long night shirt that says "Sometimes I laugh so hard tears run down my legs!" I wore it at a quilt retreat & initially got teased about it until they all realized how true it is 🤣🤣
Yes, this was a fun and very informative podcast!! I truly love the "family" interaction. Billy, blessings to you and your future Bride for your upcoming Wedding!!
I actually really enjoyed Camille & Chelsi both posting their in-progress blocks as the new collections were announced. It made the reveal last a little longer and built anticipation! I say do this more! 👍
I absolutely loved this podcast, it was so fun! I too, would love to see a scalloped border video or tutorial. You guys are so much fun and you have inspired me to try to make my first quilt at 69 years old, thank you!
As always I love your videos. Since you are so interesting and upbeat I use your videos to keep me on my recumbent bike on the days I have the “the don’t wannas”.
As a longarmer for 17 years I want to say that I have never stretched a quilt or the backing. Sometimes I need to press the quilt or the backing. But they should not be stretched. Loading is very important. They should be smooth and square when put on the longarm, but not stretched. I will say that some quilts are not square, but I would notify the quilt maker with suggestions to fix, sometimes it’s a wavy border, etc.
Great episode!!! I always enjoy the questions from other listeners and learn from your answers!! The quilts are beautiful!! Congratulations to Billy and Isabel (sorry if I misspelled) on your upcoming wedding day!! Such a happy time for you and your families!! Love is in the air!!

It's interesting that you talked about modern vs traditional. I'm a lurker and haven't ventured to actually making a quilt, but I always loved that your quilt patterns and fabrics are a beautiful mix of modern and traditional.
Adding a longarm can be so much fun, and so many to choose from. Please be certain to check for local support who can actually take care of any problems quickly.
Sherri, I would be interested in a video with tips for a scalloped edge and binding. I have a king size Double Wedding Ring quilt in progress. I plan to cut my binding on the bias to make attaching it easier. Any other tips and tricks will be appreciated. I would encourage you to venture into long arm quilting. I have a 20” machine on a 10 foot frame with the computer. I don’t free motion and there is a learning curve for the program but it’s so much fun! Congratulations and best wishes, Billy, to you and Isabel. May you have many happy years together.❤
I belong to a non-fiction book club. It’s really cool. I don’t like non-fi books that much, but this way, I’m reading/listening to some that are pretty interesting… go for it!!
I'd be interested in a future podcast episode where you interview the physical therapist in your patreon group. Might have to be remote, and it would depend on her willingness, but that would be great information to go in depth on. ☺️
Sherri, you are the BEST! If I am going to read, I always read something informative. LOL! That sounds like a great book club idea! Now, if I only lived close by I would come over for sure!
My drink cup is by ello from Target. I like the rubber spout, and it has a plastic lid (closure). I fold my quilts in half and then square them up. So I'm only trimming 3 sides as opposed to 4 sides. If that makes sense. 😊
Hello, I love you guys. I have waited to comment until I have caught up to all the videos. I now have watched every video in order 😁. I wanted to share my experience with Laguna Sunrise. I have lived in California my whole life. Grew up in LA and now live in Santa Barbara. I’ve surfed my whole life, always in the ocean, and my husband and I enjoy taking walks on the beach in the evening enjoying the sunset. I wanted to connect to Laguna Sunrise, but I just couldn’t connect. I was thinking, these aren’t California colors. Please keep reading! I work in LA and live in Santa Barbara. I have to drive along to coast for my commute. I was listening to one of the TH-cam’s that was talking about Laguna Sunrise. It was really windy on my drive and I glanced at the fabric and looked up at the mountains, the mountains were the exact colors of yellows(limey) and greens! The mustard bush was blooming, which is part of our California history. And I literally said ‘What’ out loud! And then I looked over at the ocean, it was so choppy and again it was your exact colors of white and blues. Then!the sunset had the oranges, reds, purples, light blue and white. I was like, there fabric is our colors! And then along the freeway there’s a plant that is not a native, but it grows along our beaches, and it is green with purple and yellow flowers, which put me in an ‘ahhhh’ feeling! And now I am connected! I love this fabric line and have to have it!!!! Thank you for connecting me to my home colors!
HAHAHA! First of all, I'm considering a move from Philly to Vegas area just so I can be in your book club, Sherri - 12 FULL months of non-fiction!!! And as far as Opal goes, I hope she didn't wind up as 🥓......🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊
We had a pot bellied pig when my kids were young, alll because my son comes running up to me at the fair, the kids were in 4H, he was so excited that we couldn't tell him no. Thus we ended up with a 4 week only piglet that we had to feed goats milk, at the time I did not know anyone who raised goats to we had to buy cans of pasteurized goats milk for a pretty penny and of course because she was a baby she ate an enormous amount of milk. Her name was Samantha Jane aka Sammie. Thanks for talking about pot belly pigs
I think that sometimes as a crafter, people say you should turn it into a business, but to me business can take the fun out of it. Especially when you have to work with fabrics and make projects you don't care for. In your case you are working with your own fabric and designs, so the fun stays. I retired just over a year ago and I had told my boss, it was time because work was cutting into my craft time. lol.
For the one who asked about border options: Donna Jordan of Jordan Fabrics has a tutorial on different borders, easy but striking additions to your quilt 😊
Chelsi…regarding the longarm learning curve: EVERYTHING has a learning curve. It’s like that box of tops you thought were so bad, so didn’t finish them. Once they were done, you learned and see your progress. I know you are super busy, but longarming (especially freestyle!) is such a great outlet for your art. Just an opinion… take it or leave it. 😊
Another fun video! I have been wondering for a while now, what is up with that sewing machine behind Billy ... the one that has a shelf/leaf leaning on it ... I don't think that is where Sherri sews at ... it gets my attention everytime Billy is on the screen!!
Please do a video on scalloped edges. I have a Quilt top that my mom hand sewed together prior to her passing. I took it to a quilter and I had it quilted but I haven’t trimmed it yet. I keep procrastinating on when to start that project as I don’t want to mess anything up. Would appreciate any help I can get.
Agree that you can use your choice of backing but...if the backing is directional and the quilt top is directional make sure you make your quilter aware of this and that they write it down on their instructions of how you want it quilted.

Modern quilts use really big blocks of fabric as well
How can I order a pattern for the scrappy quilt on the wall?
Wow. ?what longarm would you get?😊
Agree that you can use your choice of backing but...if the backing is directional and the quilt top is directional make sure you make your quilter aware of this and that they write it down on their instructions of how you want it quilted.
How does one get any of your quilt patterns. Am watching an April, 2023, podcast. Also need to learn how to access other podcasts.

Do you do quilts with fabric/patterns for boys?
Could I join you from Switzerland?
Why do you all wear headsets?
Life happens while you're making other plans.
I would join an all non fiction book club. But not a half and half. But I live in Colorado, And I’m not in Patreon.
To me…. When you use a fabric line it’s not scrappy. 🤷🏻♀️
You call 1/2" "extra"???
Ummmmm, no.
Just say the truth, which is if you mess up one block, there's no extra to cut another 2 1/2" or 3" strip.
Ummmmm perhaps you could say what you want with a little more 50:42 kindness?!?
I can say being newer to quilting, I’ve not purchased a kit from anyone yet.
