They then discuss how they have tried to introduce others to quilting and give some tips on how to share the joy of quilting with others. We should do a "secret" quilt along to give Billy and his new bride a quilt. I am sure you could source a block from many of your followers and quickly put together a quilt from his fan club. Such a lovely young man - who is all in to our community.
I helped 6 of my grandchildren make reading pillows, they all loved creating something they could use!
I was a lonely quilter and didnt find any interest among friends so I put a notice on the Next Door app and left my number at the only local quilt store for anyone wanting help with quilting. I have 4 ladies in our 3rd year meeting on Tuesday nights. Love it!!
My great grandmother and my grandmother were both quilters. I got my love of quilting from them. I made 2 tops when I was in junior high. They were baby quilts for my aunt and my mother’s friend. That was over 50 years ago and I still love it!
I have been garment sewing since childhood & started quilting 5 years ago at 62
Right in there with you. I sewed my first dress at age 11. Just took up quilting last year at 64.
My dog is a quilting fan. I sew in a she shed in the backyard, and when I head out there I'll call out "I'm gonna go sew", and my dog will run to the back door and then race to the she shed. Took me forever to figure out why, but I've reached the conclusion that it's because I'm sitting down in one place for hours - not constantly up and down cleaning, cooking etc. She can curl up relax and take an uninterrupted nap for a couple hours. I get up every 2 hours to stretch my legs and move a bit and when the timer goes off she'll slowly stand up, stretch and then follow me back to the house to do some chores. Then happily race back out for my next sewing session. She has a scrap quilt on each of her dog beds and loves them all, worries when they disappear into the wash and so happy when they come out of the dryer and goes back on her beds. Yep, a true quilting fan.
My dog is so similar and as a greyhound, he loves anything that keeps me in one spot for a long time. Some days he heads to the sewing room before me, then comes looking for me if I don't follow him. Love him to bits ❤❤

I was introduced to quilting by a lady at my church. She had a women's Bible study combined with a free beginner quilting class. She must have had 30 women show up. I loved the Bible study of course, but when I made a lap sized quilt I was hooked. Since then I have made so many quilts. I've taught several women and my two daughters how to quilt as well. I must say tho I am a lonely quilter these days as my daughters have too many things going on. We just moved to the country and I don't know anyone. My husband has offered to quilt with me. He's an engineer and he is interested in the math of it all plus I think he just loves his wife and doesn't want me to be lonely. What a great husband.

I was introduced to quilting by my grandma. She hand-pieced a grandmother's flower garden quilt for me that my mom hand-quilted. My aunts and other family members sewed but I only learned the basics back then. Two years ago I got the urge to quilt. I learned through online tutorials and asking a cousin who is a quilter many questions. I enjoy your podcasts and am looking forward to Laguna Sunrise.
I have so many friends from quilting. It has been a mind boost with me. I sew alone and in groups. Alone I can clear my mind and together with friends I gain energy. Your local quilt shop is one of the best sources to gain friends and quilting knowledge. I told my sister when she took her beginner class, not to worry about not learning everything but she would gain a friend. She did and has a fantastic quilting friend now❣️ watching your Podcast makes me want to go quilt🧵🪡
I'm the first quilter in my family but not the first sewist. My mom taught me to sew at a young age. I have always been creative and artistic so when my mother-in- law taught me a quarter inch seam and how to make a half-square triangle... I was hooked!!! I have a long-arm and teach whoever wants to learn! I have been designing my own patterns but have not published them because I get stuck with the "how" and self doubt. I was just telling my hubby last night I'm just too old to get started with that & I'll just stick to long-arming (almost 55... I know, it's not that old😂) But this morning while I watch your episode you said it's never too late to start!! What timing! I'm piecing a quilt top while my long-arm stitches out another. I'm hooked and will never NOT quilt or create. Thank you for the inspirational videos that I look forward to every month! ❤ My teenage son wants me to start my own YT channel😂

You 2 are so lucky to have each other. I used to sew with my mother, but she passed away in 2021. I don't have any sewing friends or a local quilt shop. I mostly do online shopping. I think there is a quilting group near me, I'll have to look into that.
Joining a guild is a wonderful way to learn about quilting. I learned from a Georgia Bonesteel book in the 70's. I just had to own my own quilt.

How a beautiful quilts
I was introduced to quilting by my grandma. She quilted most of her life. She passed away just this last December at 99 and 11 months old. She lived fairly close, so even though she no longer quilted I would take my projects to show her. She was so sweet and always loved everything I made. I also shared quilting with a friend. At first try she didn’t love it because it involves ironing! Hahaha! But she had another friend who convinced her to take a class with her. Now she quilts as much as I do! I keep quilting for lots of reasons. It brings me joy to give quilts away, but also to wrap up in something I have made as well! I love the process of it, but I also love the math of quilting! Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers! This is a wonderful channel to follow

I too get enjoyment in making something handmade and giving them as gifts. Sewing and quilting is very therapeutic, I love the creative side, and have grown to love fabric collections made by a handful of fabric designers. I can challenge myself to quilt better, try new techniques, and I love setting goals for myself. The quilter community is what truly keeps me engaged. I have made the best friendships and that is priceless. 💗 I am one of those women that started quilting late in life. I am now retired and a day doesn't go by when I am not sewing, quilting, or preparing to start a project. I can thank a really good friend for introducing me to quilting.
a great way to introduce people to quilting is setting up a craft day in your garage or I worked at a middle school and I had students come an hour before school to help me with my projects. It was a job to keep up projects so they would keep coming
I really enjoyed today’s episode. I started quilting about 10 years ago and LOVE it! One of my friends just informed me that she’s retiring next month and wants me to teach her how to sew! Oh my gosh! I am so excited to share my love of sewing with someone! Eeek! 😆
I have been introducing a friend who doesn’t drive to quilt. We meet at my house and I bought her a pretty layer cake. After showing how to use a rotary cutter etc.. Next we watched a beginning block UTube series together and made one block each visit.

She made me a beautiful quilt and I loved it so much that I decided to learn how to quilt myself. I thought if she can do this I should try it too. I've never regretted it. I just recently surprised her with a quilt that I made for her. I am so thankful that she inspired me to learn how to quilt.

My youngest daughter is a college professor. She likes to embroider so I have hooked her with Lisa Bonjean’s and Missouri Star websites/ you tube channels for embroidery…and I hope she will roll into quilting eventually. It is relaxing side hobby. I did teach my daughters to sew & they made awesome pajama pants in home ec & got A’s so it is just a matter of time! Thank you for sharing!
My husband sews his shirts and shorts and helps me sandwich my quilts. He did quilt one of my quilts because he had an idea to make puzzle pieces as the shapes, then he made a pillow too.

I was introduced to quilting by a class promotion done through the YWCA. Unfortunately the class did not go so I bought a book on quilting. I have introduced many people to quilting. Also yeah for purple scarves!
Congratulations on achieving 100,000!! So cool! Speaking of trying to encourage others to quilt. My Mother has been quilting since the late 1990’s and I started with her encouragement in 2014. I became unemployed and figured, let’s give it a try. Let’s just say, a day doesn’t go by that I don’t touch fabric LOL. So I have a sister who just didnt “get it”. Couldn’t understand why we loved quilting so much. This past fall, we have a new convert 😂. She has made a few bowls and small table toppers. The best is that the 3 of us are now doing the BOM for 2024 together!! We live in 3 different states, but FaceTime when needed and even got together for a long weekend as our own retreat. It is such a joy.

Congratulations on reaching 100,000 subscribers! 🥳 I enjoy watching your TH-cam. I met a person at a cross stitching group that had taken a quilting class, but was not able to complete the project. I told her that I would be more than happy to teach her. She came to my house and completed her first quilt and is now working on her second one. We are now sweet friends even though we are 20 years apart. Now we cross stitch and quilt together.

I am teaching my 10 year daughter and niece how to sew this summer by making the pillow case on fat quarter shop. They will pick the fabric and we will make it. I hope this will spark them to want to do more

My mom taught me how to sew. She made some quilts during those years. However, it wasn't until I started having kids that my quilting journey began. A friend in the neighborhood in Houston, Texas introduced me to the rotary cutter and acrylic rulers. That's all it took for me to get hooked on quilting. The very first quilt I made was a purple Sunbonnet Sue for my daughter's bedroom. Nothing like starting out with applique for one's first quilt. hahaha

I was introduced to sewing as a young girl by my mom. Sewing garments - I did NOT have the patience for it. I started back up in my late 20s with quilting. It’s so much more therapeutic, and calms my anxiety.

You are both so motivating. I am that retired teacher who just bought my first sewing machine and just finished stitching my first quilt top. My sisters are both quilters and are surprised how much I love it. I also chose a harder one, but it challenged me. I love all of your collections so much.
I sewed clothes for the first 30 years of my sewing life, including my wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses. My maternal grandmother was a dressmaker, which is how she supported herself (and supported her children as a single mom) and I'm sure she was an influence. She learned her fine skills from the nuns in the orphanage where she grew up.
I have an engineering/mathematical/spatial type of mind, and after making an apron in 7th grade home economics class, I started buying Simplicity patterns and just followed the patterns for the most part.
After I got married, I didn't have much free time for sewing at all. Then, in 1975 or thereabouts, I saw my first ever quilts at the Minnesota State Fair. After divorce, the internet entered my life and I really think that's where my interest in quilting grew, specifically from Moda Bake Shop. The internet has increased my interest hyperbolically and now fabric and quilting projects are the mainstay of my newly retired life.
I was introduced to quilting by a friend… she said I should make a quilt (I sewed kids clothes, curtains and such) I was like NO! I tried that once my squares didn’t line up. It was terrible. She was persistent and bought me a quilt class. That class was in a very small dark room in the basement of an old house. We were going to make a sampler quilt…. They gave you instructions and sent you home with the exception of returning with your “made block” by the third or 4 class I was like WOW‼️ I CAN DO THIS! The class became… like hurry up give me the instructions and I couldn’t get home to my sewing machine fast enough to make the next block 😅 that was circa 1991

I usually do a pieced backing too -it helps control scraps. I also piece a label into the backing too

Found y’all on apple podcast first… I listen as I’m commuting to my full time (not so fun) job… I have a quilting small group with my church. I have 5-7 ladies every other weekend that come quilting with me… we start out making prayer cloths and then move to a quilted home decor project or a simple design (jelly roll race, etc.). I’ve taught at least 10… probably more over the years 😊.
OMG Chelsi. I did not know you were a pharmacy tech. I am as well and just purchased a long arm machine because I CANNOT Not quilt. Hopefully I can turn my love for quilting into a full time job/hobby.

Congratulations on your new subscriber number! I am thoroughly enjoying each podcast that is coming out and wish every good thing to Billy and his fiance with the upcoming wedding day. Sure hope you will post pictures on one of the podcasts of wedding fun to share with all of us. I have fallen in love with Sweet Lemonade fabrics and also subscribe to American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, which has that beautiful sew along happening right now. My plan is to sew that pattern in the Strawberry Lemonade line and I have also ordered Tulip and Vine quilt kit because it is gorgeous!!! Thank you for all the wonderful content you are producing for the quilting community. FYI I was introduced to quilting by a good friend back in 1974 and am still loving creating quilts for gifts and my own home. And I have taught quilting techniques to many members of different guilds I've belonged to over these many years to help them have fun with fabric and threads. Your fabrics are beautiful❤

How funny! My dad worked as a tailor and I never enjoyed sewing clothes. I do only because my mom will ask me to but I prefer making quilts.
I have always sewed but my friend asked me to help her make charity quilts and I said no I hate quilting lol. Now I'm addicted to it not even a little but over the top.

One of my close friends (80) taught sewing at a summer camp in New Hampshire for many years. She passed away recently but had grown the classes to the point where she had many donated machines and it was the most popular class at camp ( male and female ) with the young people. She will be forever remembered and missed and inspired numerous future sewers and quilters!

Could you please...please...please have a show and tell with Roberts denim quilts. That would be so much fun. I just got done cutting up a couple of totes of denim and searching for ideas of quilts to make with it all.
Congratulations to all on your 100,000 viewers. And sharing my story for quilting came out of left field. My Mom sewed dresses for myself & sisters, but there was never talk of quilts. When I first got married I took an evening quilting class through the school system, which was soon cancelled because of teacher strike. I’ve always have loved quilts, so when I retired it was on the top of my list.

I just have to comment. I think people get into quilting in two different ways. There is one group that is seriously interested in the math and making perfect blocks and the uniformity of the pieces. The other group is driven by color, creativity and art. Some people cross from one to the other. But some don't enjoy the color choices and the other group loves the math. Its sort of interesting how many women who were involved in computer programming professionally who have become quilters. It's an interesting process. Seems to have something for everyone!
Congratulations on the amazing milestone of 100,000 subscribers!! I love your podcast and I’m not surprised that 99,999 others do too! I highly recommend going on a sleep over quilting retreat! Twice a year my “Sewing Sisters” and I go on a four day quilting retreat. As soon as we return from one retreat, we are planning and looking forward to the next one. We share our projects, help and encourage each other, share funny stories, laugh long and hard, share meals, and of course sew, sew, sew! We often sew into the wee hours of the morning. It provides us with the most wonderful feeling of fellowship and friendship all brought about through our love of quilting. ❤

I introduced myself to quilting with a friend. I was the first quilter in my family. My mom did teach me to embroider and she enjoyed stamped cross stitch. My older sister then started quilting. We have quilts now that my mom cross stitched the blocks and we put them together in quilts.
My mom taught us to sew clothes as a kid. I sewed a few fun baby quilts to give away when all of us were starting our families and then put sewing away. In 2018, I started taking care of my mom and picked up quilting. I’m now addicted. It’s comforting and challenging. I like being creative with colors and fabrics. Collecting material is now an expensive hobby.
I thoroughly enjoy working with quilt kits and I always want and search for the fabric when I see the patterns. If I like something,I am never bored with someone else’s ideas.

I started sewing clothes(not well) in school. Then my husband, my champion, knew I loved to cross stitch, found out there was a quilt class coming up & had me sign up for it. It wasn't my best work. But we still have that quilt. Now I quilt for my kids, grandkids, friends, family. I love the process from the pattern, or a block, the fabric, cutting it up. Sewing the pieces. Then quilting them. Love your channel. Thank you.
I took a class at our local park district ,made new friends that are still friends today . That was the beginning I always liked to sew took sewing in high school when the dinosaurs roamed (74) now . Love to collect fabrics . Love the colors . I love your fabrics and your podcasts.
I LOVED episode…thanks to all 3 of you for sharing your journeys. Like Chelsea, I resisted being drawn into quilting by a relative. The thing that intrigued me was having an acquaintance describe her start in quilting as a way to sew and be creative after her children refused to wear the clothing she made! Right time, right message…I’ve been totally immersed for almost 7 years now!

I am in my happy place when I quilt. I wanted to learn to sew. So in 2003 I took a couple of classes at Joanne’s while living in Phoenix. My last class was a quilting class. I got to the point of sandwiching it but never finished it.
Well, fast forward to 2023, I met my now close friend who was doing alterations for me. We got to talking and she said she teaches quilting and would help me finish it. This was June 2023, I then took her class - The Ultimate Beginner Quilt by FQS. She actually worked there for a while. Now I’m on my 15th quilt and have a small fabric store in my quilting room 😂. Buying fabric and quilting are definitely separate hobbies! My friend who took her class is still working on that quilt.
I definitely caught the bug and cannot wait until I retire so I have time to do it more often. I began at in June at age of 64, now I’m 65.
❤❤ my advise is do t let the 1/4” feet keep you from quilting… every quilt you will learn something to carry to your next quilt….
I learn to quilt when I came to Europe. I when to a university in the states and the mother of a good friend quilt and when I was introduced to quilt I love it. My mother didn’t sew so I had to learn from A to Z .
Love todays discussion on what draws people to quilt making. My mom taught me how to sew early on. She is an incredible seamstress. I enjoyed sewing, but not making clothing. My maternal grandmother made tatted lace, crocheted, knitted and embroidered. I was given a quilt made by one of my ancestors, and was drawn into the idea of cutting fabric shapes and sewing them together into a design. In a past season of life, I was a programmer/data analyst. My brain processes in an analytical, "mathy" kind of way. My favorite math subject was Geometry. So, designing/making quilts fits right in with the way my brain works, so to speak. As Sherri mentioned, I have always appreciated hand-made gifts, and think other people do as well. I think quilted projects are a great gift for any occasion. I love gardens, so all the colors, and designs of fabric and blocks are like a beautiful garden bringing such joy. I will often walk into my fabric closet, stand there, and just immerse myself in the colors, especially on a dreary day. Love your podcast. thanks for sharing your love of quilting and design.
I love quilting and have been quilting for about 20 years, I am currently going to teach my 16 and 7 year old granddaughters to sew / quilt and my grandsons are showing an interest as well. My little 7 year olds think quilting is my job LOL. they love the quilts I gift them and at this age are asking for a new quilt. I hope to pass my love on to each of them. The girls have played on the longarm and enjoy sewing with it as well.
Chelsea, as a pharmacist-quilter, the pharmacy industry has changed so much in my 30 years of practice. I think your decision to be a fabric designer/quilter was the right one! I quilt to relieve stress from my job! 😂 I cannot wait to purchase the new book! ❤

Congrats on 100K! This was a really fun and interesting episode. I taught a young friend, who is like a daughter to me, how to quilt. She has made several beauties! My 2 daughters had no interest in sewing, but I hope to teach my 2 granddaughters to quilt/sew. Thank you all for what you do!!

Quilting is art. I LOVE textiles and have sewn since I was 10 (now 64!!😮) My grandma taught me how to use her machine, but basically turned me loose. I sewed my own bell bottoms, tops, etc until I had my first child. Then I sewed frilly dresses and matching outfits for my two little girls. I made a quilt when my 2nd daughter was 6 months? old , but didnt pick it back up until they were preteens. In between, I worked at a fabric store, made gowns for weddings and proms, worked for the local dry cleaner as their alterations person and did tons of other crafts . I taught myself to reupholster (reupholstered my 64 Chevy seats and headliner; redid 2 of my sofas; my ex husbands truck; some recliners…) picked quilting back up around the time my kids no longer wanted to wear mom made things, and my own aging body was no longer what I wanted to sew for. Now I quilt between 12-15 quilt tops per year and really love the planning, colors, and ideas that come up. Love watching you and seeing you interact. Chelsea I’m glad you e learned the joy of quilting from your mom, and realize she was right!!! ❤❤
Yes, I live in California and traffic is no fun. The high speed train would be great, but I hear that it will be very expensive.
Another great episode!!! Congratulations on 100k subscribers!!! Awesome!!! I just started quilting in 2019 at the age of 64 after seeing some quilts displayed at our county fair. Seeing those quilts sparked something in me that day and I never looked back!! Lol!! I've since made quilts for all my children and grandchildren and I continue loving and sharing my quilting journey every day!! Love you podcasts and videos! When you talk about retreats I'd like to share an experience I've had for some time now. I do a retreat once a year with my Mom sister aunts and cousins. we now have 4 generations participating. we have various participation each year. the most we have had was 25, but we have about 12 regulars that never miss. Next Year will be our 25th year. Lots of memories and fun.
Question: Sherri and Chelsi do you decide when you are ready to release a new fabric line or does Moda say we need a new fabric line from you in October?Do you pick ow many a year you release or does Moda? Do you get to say how many new quilt patterns come out a year? Books? Projects, small quilts, large quilts, bags, zipper Pouches, Mug Rugs? How much input do you have? Or is it a contract like Arthors saying 3 fabric lines a year, 15 new pattern?
Congratulations on 100k. I am a self-taught quilter via youtube videos. I've only been quilting for 4 years, I was home due to having a hysterectomy and was fixing my mother in laws old Kenmore sewing machine just to do some basic Heming and such ran across MSQC after my first quilt top it was like wow I made that I enjoy being creative with color and patterns I've created something that used and loved that gives warmth comfort and now I have my own very small channel ❤
