In such cases it is always hard to compare. No one states "Yay, I have no issues", but everyone _with_ the issue of course complains about it. I'd say it is a smaller percentage than it seems from the comments.

Google is doing nothing about it not Huawei. it seems that is a common trade to sell phones at enormous pricetags and right after a year or so the phones start acting up and the companies don't address the issues living the customers nothing but useless phones after or less than a year or so. there phones lose value almost instantly. it will release at 800 and next month will be 400. they try to be unique and different but haven't had any success doing so
I had the G4 and V10. Both suffered from the boot loop issue. It occurred on my G4 after my warranty expired so I sold it for a hundred bucks on eBay. I made the choice to get a V10 because I loved its camera. It started looping as well. Luckily my warranty was still valid so I swapped it out for a Nexus 6P. I really miss the optics of the V10, but LG needs to address this issue.
Hasan Shaik as Google needs to address the huge issue the Nexus 6Ps are having at this very moment. Instant battery dranage at any ℅ . You never had you Nexus 6P turn off for no apparent issue at any battery % if not beware!!! Google Nexus 6P random shotdowns, turn off or battery depletion at any percentage and you will see. At the moment Im on my 5 Nexus 6P replacements all of them had this issue.
I am using LG G5 almost 3 years. And it still running blazing fast. It is far batter than Samsug S7 or S7+. I don't why? Why people hate this pure gold.....?????
People were not hesitant in the slightest to hate on LG's next flagship once the G4 had bootloop issues. In the last two years, it seems there phones are getting better and less prone to issues. I had a G6, G5, and as of right now, a V30. I have used a G6 for a few months nearly a year ago, by far one of the phones I love. Maybe it's the way the OS is or it was the batteries manufactured for LG phones, but I always felt the battery was lasting twice as long compared to my Galaxy S7 edge. The only problems I had with LG was with the G5, I needed to get a replacement bottom chin because when I replaced the battery, half the time it didn't start up and said 'insert a supported module' instead, getting a new bottom piece fixed this. Also one time, somehow despite the G5 having a LCD, there was screenburn that lasted a day or two and was fixed either with time or with the help of my blue light filter always on it. Despite that, G6 which I used for around three or four months, was solid and I loved it. V30 seems to be working great so far, though I only had it for a week or two. LGs are great bang for buck, great battery, decently good OS, good hardware, decently good cameras, and after a year of initial release, damn great price.
I'm typing this on a 2 years old G3 and I hate it because nothing happens to it. I drowned it down the toilet and dropped it gazillion times. Now I have ordered my G5 for 350 USD only because of the G3's low sound quality.

For those watching this to see if it's worth getting a used one dirt cheap this is my experience: I exchanged a perfectly good LG V10 for this phone about a year back and the G5 kept randomly rebooting and the mic wouldn't work at all so I thought I'd been tricked. But despite the weird software, the beautiful pink metal body made me invest some time fixing it up. *Taking apart the bottom module and carefully cleaning the connectors fixed the mic *Replacing the battery stopped the restarts. and when I found out about the Gcam support and the incredible boost it's HDR modes added to the image quality, I was hooked. I still daily drive this phone and It's a great conversation starter when I just slide the yellow battery out. Brillliant.
i am, frankly, still blown away by how good the camera was on mine. i upgraded to a samsung midranger and while it's by far the better phone, the camera is noticeably worse. if the latest LGs retain the camera while fixing the flaws i might switch back.
I hated mine, 6 months in the screen started ghosting, tried everything to make it stop and it just wouldn't, even replaced it and even the replacement ghosted, not to mention that the battery life is terrible compared to anything even slightly more modern, and if you ever need to replace the charging port good luck because they marry the port to the motherboard meaning you can't replace it, I also wasn't impressed at all with the cameras, they have this weird oversharp and over saturated look to them and are horrible in low light, the fingerprint scanner literally scratches with a fingernail and after it collects a few scratches it hardly works anymore, I sold mine off and got a p20 pro which is a night and day better phone
I've had the V 20 since November and I love it. Really good camera, video and audio features that I use all the time. I put Nova Launcher on it's been a great phone. The battery isn't as bad as some made it out to be, so that hasn't been an issue for me either and I would consider myself a moderate to heavy user.
Ian Schulze I agree. I currently use my V20 more often than my i7+. I just love the usability of it and the features over the other android phones. Highly recommend.
I have been using the V20 since december and it's a great phone. Great camera and and Android actually runs smooth on it. Also the battery last all day with a good amount of usage.
I love my G5 and Im thankful its a flop, because I got a mint condition used one for 150 on ebay. Its crazy fast and all its flaws can be fixed rather easily. Concerned about software? Get an h830 or h850, Root and find a custom rom you like. Concerned about durability? Use a case and screen protector. Concerned about bootlooping? Download LGUP and your OS on your laptop, make an LG backup in your phone and you will be fine. LG G5 is a fantastic phone, for those who know how to exploit its bounty.
I am watching this on a G5 as I write this and I couldn't be happier. I've had it since launch, nearly a year ago, now and I'm still as happy as the day I got it. Service reception is good, call quality is stunning, especially with HD sound. (I'm not sure if that feature is a Verizon exclusive, but it's lovely.) The camera is stunning. Video is gorgeous and records at 60 fps. The hardware is fast, one of the fastest Android devices I've ever gotten my mitts on. (Bested only by Pixel.) The screen and charge longevity are the biggest problems. The screen has LCD... echoes, I guess you could say. Watching something white will leave a temporary "burn in" that's quite noticeable for a period of time as the screen changes imagery. The battery doesn't hold the same amount of charge as it used to. I know this is commonplace with LiON batteries, but I was quite shocked. It's nothing terrible, but you can tell they don't last as long as they used to out of the box. That said, I'm still incredibly happy with it and when it does come time to replace it, I'll be quite sad about it. I've become very affectionate towards this phone and that won't be changing any time soon.
I just bought a used G5 in mint condition for $185 😂 there were like 40 offerings on Swappa. People really didn't like this phone. Works out great for me though.
+LOVES 2 Smooch Keep in mind the comment was 10 months old. Also keep in mind older generation of phones drop dramatically in price when a newer model is released. The G6 was just released then and the v30 wasn't out yet, the G5 dropped from 200-300 to 100-150 as a result.
That's why they've been releasing phones with bootloop issues for over 2 years in a row? They didn't fix it, replacement boards will develop the same issue over time.
this is why I still have a g2 on android 4.4.2 kit kat. lag? yes. when you play high intensive games and then go on doing something else. heat? yes ....and I mean burning heat several times...but no problem...water has gotten into phone dropped it on concrete and metal...still no problem. Idk if I should get a g5 now
I have it dude, not a beauty as design but it works without lags and photos are so awesome. Battery is average, screen quality very good but below as light intensity comparing to Samsung amoled screen.
Brody Dalle I know most people don't use 2nd battery but most power users do this and regarding the size it won't be as big as 5600 mAh ie two batteries of g5 and 5 min gets you to 100 % anywhere anytime. And talking to technology of charging qc 4 or any qc technology has heat issue and the technique used reduces the life of batteries due heat. So battery cradle is always good option without any issue and no quick charging
Not sure what phone you would buy instead. I don't think any other flagship phones other than LG has a removable battery. It's a dead feature at this point. Manufacturers gave it up in favor of easier waterproofing, and having more internal space for new hardware features.
Do own G5 . Like the design .Not another brick like most of the phones these days .Curved screen on the top,like the power button/ finger print scanner on the back.Looking forward to G6.
Dawid Bartman well if LG isnt selling many units ,and they've been keeping the removable battery since forever. It's logical for them to drop that functionality . I'd rather have wireless charging , and water resistance than another battery . The G6 will play it safe and that's okay . I'd rather them make really good devices than devices meant for a niche market.
Bought the G5 after my Moto X Style's screen shattered. Excellent phone with USB-C, fast hardware, removable battery, amazing camera and Android N which my Moto X hadn't received yet because Lenovo doesn't know what they are doing. Simply a phone worth the money I spent on it.

Beside battery life, it's perfectly fine for me. Its main camera beats my friend's S7 (not talking about its wide angle camera as a bonus), and performance is also fine. It's currently 399. I highly recommended.
I own a v20 and I f**cking love it. My previous smarthphone was a Note 4, It was awesome and I miss the Super AMOLED and stylus but nothing more. *Sorry 4 my bad engrish*

I did get the G5 last month...bad timing I know.... I came from an S7 Edge that had a line of stuck pink pixels and it was just annoying the crap out of me. Another reason why I switched from the S7 Edge is because those phones are pretty difficult to take care of with a Screen protector and a case. (Possibly because I'm trash at installing screen protectors). So far my experiences with the G5 have been nothing but positive. It's fast, double tap to wake and lock is fantastic, the camera is alright (I do miss the low light performance of the S7). It's easy to take care of with a combination of skins, screen protectors, and a case. It's really all that I wanted in a smartphone, it just does the job for what I do.
I've had a G5 since the beginning. I agree on the looks but it's not a big deal to me since I always have a case on it. I was also disappointed by how long it's taken AT&T to release Android 7 on the device. I'm also not the biggest fan of the LCD screen and much prefer the AMOLED screen seen on other devices. Still even with all that said, I'm happy with the phone. It's plenty fast still, faster than the Samsung counterparts, and the camera is still awesome. The camera was my #1 priority when choosing a new phone last year and that's probably why I went with the G5 and don't regret it. Great video BTW!
I'm a proud owner of a LGG4 that perform as well as my Nexus 6P and my S7 Edge and never have an issue with it. When my original Nexus 6P was replaced due to some well know issue when it was updated to Nougat 7.0 and when my original S7 Edge was replace also dew to the fact that this phone is so fragile and slippery, The LGG4 is the only phone that is the original and never got replaced. Still in prestine condition, snappy, when it had fallen out of my hands it just take the hit like a champ and with my 3 extra batteries and a external battery cradle I can go a whole weekend with pulling out any cables to charge anything. LGG4 for me is a keeper. If we don't get any other phone this year with a swappable battery I most likely will get this or the LGv10 or the LGV20. knowing that they the easiest phones to fix and that when the battery give out I can replace it my self is one of the best feature and LG phone has..

I really enjoyed this video because when this phone came out it got a bunch of crap and I felt dumb for buying one, some people like Marquees didn't even review it! Oh man the LG G5 is what I built my youtube channel with from 2016 to 2018. Thanks to that phone and its wideangle lens I vlogged my travels to japan and my ill fated marriage.
The same can be said about G3's overheating because of the display. Yes, it lead the trend of QHD display but that device wasn't flawless.. When we look back at the era of G4, it is considered the best device of the time. The S7 is superior to G5, while the G4 surpases S6 by a long shot!
The build quality was the main issue for me. The phone felt like plastic, the power button rattled and the screen flickered when pressed it a little harder. Not the flagship qualities. See you at MWC, Michael!
bit late replying here, but i've seen a lot of videos of people pushing on the g5 screen and it doing a ripple or flickering but on mine no matter how hard i press or what i do i cant seem to get it to do any of those things? Its like the one i got from verizon had a higher quality screen than everyone else was talking about. and the phone is still holding up perfectly at this point. :/
Honestly the buikd grew on me. Like despite the back feeling and looking plastic. Yet fact remains its still aluminum so the build mever deterred me at all.

Not looking forward to the LG G6, I don't understand why $650 phones are so popular? A smart consumer would protect that investment with a case no doubt? rendering the 'premium build' a waste.. or are phones such a status symbol now that everyone must see what logo is on the back?. I used to own a nexus 5, which was a $650 phone on the inside and a $100 phone on the outside which retailed for $349, slap a case on it.. and you can't tell the difference. The G5 dropped in price (rightfully so) and I picked it up for $380 a few months ago, slap a case on it and it and all you can't tell the difference. Replaceable battery is a non-argument for me and easy repairability as I like to keep my phones longer than 12 months. Also since when is 5.5+ inch screen the new norm?
I don't understand the obsession with glass and metal. Glass is more fragile, and metal requires either glass or metal for the device to actually work as a phone. There are plenty of high quality plastics out there, but hardly anyone uses them.
Some people don't like using cases. I'm not one of those people, but I know them. A friend's been saved from drops by just having a glass screen protector.
Yeah, what I hate, is most of these reviewers don't take price as seriously as they should, they don't live in a world where keeping a phone going longer than 3 years is necessary due to it being a large expenditure. Always their 'favourite phone' of the year is some $650+ 6 inch behemoth. I begin to worry the direction everything is headed as everyone tries to emulate apple, just take google for example, they killed the nexus line for 'pixel' and everyone is calling it the 'best android phone' or 'finally a google phone worth reviewing' a $650 phone without water resistance and massive bezels? seems everyone gets sucked into the marketing. These expensive phones should exist, they are beautiful but as a result they should be the niche market and the fully capable nexus 5 type phones should make the majority of sales.. consumerism is a weird thing..
own G5 for some three months. I'm surprised how good phone it is, especially given its price tag. yeh camera setup is second to none! also it is the best mono speaker phone out there. on top it is the best display out there for everyone that can't stand AMOLED s, and enjoin in pure brought whiteness of IPS. battery capacity come short, but hardware and software optimizations make this phone run for long. I can't say objectively and measurably for how long, because of habit to quickly charge it 2-3 times, for a shot periods of time. QuickCharge 3.0 is something that alongside dual camera setup, sound and display quality, is something that I can't compromise, and G5 delivers. some phones might have better looks, at first sight, but G5 looks grows on you fairly quickly. Plus I keep my in silicon case. My only complain is super aggressive task killing. no more than 5 tasks is in the task list. I don't use "friends" so can't comment on it. I don't see the point, but reckon that having exchangeable battery is good thing on long run. Looking forward to see what G6 brings, but in the G5 price category there's no better choice ATM.
Thank you for acknowledging the boot loop issues! the G4 and G5's boot looping issues have been really bad (especially the G4), hopefully talking about these things will put pressure on LG to invest more on preventing manufacturing defects.
I have a G5 with nougat. (sprint). this sucker is blazing fast and love the removable battery ❤. screen is plenty great, and honestly I don't care about the primer and paint. I use a case. The cameras, as mentioned in the video are incredible. The wide angle camera is so useful and productive. Only phone I'd consider replacing it with is the V20. Having a removable battery is what determines if I get a phone. I had the G2 for 3 years, excellent phone but the battery got old and drained big time. Hearing LG is ditching the removable battery for a dumbass gimmick of water proofing blows my mind. Sure water resistance is nice, but in my opinion, I'd take swappable batteries any day. I'm responsible enough to avoid water contact. The LG G5 is an excellent phone. Great display, easily repairable, removable battery, excellent cameras, super fast daily operation, and now with nougat, even more customizable.
I picked up a g5 for $275 as a replacement for my zenfone 2 that'd crapped out. For me, what sold me was the specs, removable battery (my zenfone's battery had gone bad), and a slightly smaller screen than the zen's 5.5 inches. The modularity wasn't worth it, but I bought it just to use as a plain old phone, and its hard to find a flagship with a removable battery these days, something I hope Lg keeps putting in their phones. for the price I got my g5 for, I couldn't have asked for anything better
Thanks for Bootloop issue to mention. Its very rare from professionals. I am the V10 owner with bootloop, thank to warranty for giving me a free motherboard exchange. But lack of updates, bad optimisation, locked bootloader and no word about Nougat update makes me to consider another brand for replacement.
I picked up a G5 this past November when my beloved Xperia Z3 was on the fritz. It's not a pretty phone, true. But its as fast, the camera is nice, screen is bright, batteries are inexpensive and, with something like the Google Now launcher, just about stock. Nougat rolled out not too long after I bought it on T-Mobile, so I'm good there. I'm happy with it and would look to see what the G6 has to offer. That said, I still like my Z3 more. As a $400 phone, it's a steal for the specs. But it wasn't enough to sway anyone from a S7 or HTC 10

I've been rocking a V20 for a few months now and since swapped out a few stock apps for my favorite options (Gboard and Action Launcher, For example), I've been enjoying the hell out of it. While it could do with better battery life, the swappable battery and super fast quick charge more than make up for that in my opinion. My favorite features have to be the quad DAC (with promo B&O earbuds) and the camera. I really feel like I have become a much better photographer by playing around with the manual mode. It hardly offers everything a professional photographer would need, but it really feels like a great starter camera for learning the ropes. My profile picture here on TH-cam is one of the shots I'm really proud of.
As far as it being used as just a phone and surfing, gaming, watching vids, and taking pics, it's an AMAZING phone! As far as the mods/friends, meh. That is it's only true downfall. I had one when it came out, and I'm getting one again because I know it's a solid performer. If you can get over the dumb mods and just focus on what it can do amazingly well, you'll still be pleased to this day today with it. If all you do is focus on it's mod flops, you'll just never know. No the battery isn't the biggest, but it's optimized well enough to get a fair amount of screen on time regardless. My gf is ALWAYS charging her iPhone 6. ThebG5 does have Quick Charge 3.0 and a removable and replaceable battery. Yeah...um...=SCORE!
And did I mention it can be had in the $100 range today? Less if you buy used or remanufactured. Easy to repair also, and the price of it's parts in on the fall. Another score
I have a G5. It's 2 yrs old and only had one issue which LG fixed. I've replaced the battery which is why I won't buy a phone that the battery can't be replaced. Which is the reason I'd never own an Apple device. It's like buying something with an expiration date. All batteries eventually die. But I love the G5. I'm about to get a new one but it's hard to find one that matches the specs, removable battery, screen size and good speaker.
Just bought LG G 5 on the eve of G 6 launch due to your great rationalization about flagship specs on mid range price which makes it appealing now. Dude your editing, one liners are killers. R you a film maker or something?
My LG G5 was a hot turd, had the GPS problem, smoked the battery and the USB port was shady AF with data cables. Went back to Samsung couldn't be happier.

I'd say only if she's really gonna make use of the superior camera. Otherwise the Honor 8 would probably be a better choice. I'm not too big a fan of the Axon 7 but plenty of people seem willing to vouch for it, so shrug emoji.
I recently bought an LG G5 following the price drop. I must say, it's a suitable upgrade for those upgrading from a OnePlus 2 or similarly priced/specced phone and can't afford a higher priced S7 or comparatively priced phone. The screen and camera are amazing, and as both a Nova Launcher user and (currently) a user of LG's android skin, it's suitable for my needs. As of now, LG supports an app drawer "home screen," which brings back the app drawer, and although it's by no means stock Android, it's growing on me. I did, however, replace the pre-installed messaging app with Google's app, since I couldn't find a way to disable screen wake-ups from notifs. The battery life is actually really good on my phone; I can last a day pretty easily, without swapping batteries. This was actually my second choice of phone, however: I was first considering a V20, but opted out for the extra screen real estate due to the size of that phone. I owned both a 5" phone and a 6" phone, and i can say that LG's 5.3" size fits just right for me. As for the G6, I'm not sure if I will buy it, primarily since I'm curious over Samsung's offering. I may also wait for the next iteration of the V-series to see if that will sway me back to the phablet side.
I recently bought an LG G5 for my wife to replace her Galaxy S6. She wanted something smaller than the trend to go bigger. She also wanted a good camera at a decent price. We were able to buy a new one for $250. Its working great with the Nougat update.

The thing that killed it for me with LG is the UI. It's worse than TouchWiz with all those pastel colors and cartoonish icons. I wanted that Rolling Bot Ball. Not enough to buy a G5 though...
Andrew Schuld Touchwiz was back before, but now with nougat on top on a Galaxy s7 I actually prefer it over stock android, Samsung has really stepped up their game.
Eddy Nelson Lopez You're not wrong. TouchWiz is miles ahead of where it used to be. That's why at this point in time I dislike LG the most. I just don't care for a heavy-handed skin that Samsung, LG or any other manufacturer uses. Pure Android makes me happy.
I own a G5, and i actually record all my videos that are on my channel with my G5. It is an amazing phone and just recently was able to install Nougat, which is quite impressive, but the G5 has held out well and the camera is a stand out feature. I'm hoping to purchase the G6 and also to continue recording my videos with the G5! Great video!

why would you ever get a phone from a manufacturer that has such infamy regarding bootloader issues? they say that the g6 will not have such issues but the proof is in the performance. so we will see

I do have a G5, and I got it around the time it launched mainly looking forwards to the B&O module, only to be disappointed when it never came to North America. However, if you ignore the whole modular aspect and the slight overheating from time to time due to heavy use, it's actually a pretty great phone with the specs it does have. I prefer to treat sliding out the bottom of JUST a way to swap batteries if I don't have time to charge my phone and I need to get somewhere quickly, which is a real nice touch, not to mention having the IR blaster was handy in quite a few different situations. The speaker gets rather loud though tinny at it's highest volumes and the fingerprint sensor is too fast for you to even see the lock screen. As for the G6 I would have hoped for a removable battery and an IR blaster still, since those are nice features to have, but maybe they'll make their home in the V lineup instead.
I use my G5 again (dropped the S8, fixing it is too expensive) and it's truly awful. The USB cable barely wants to stay in, sometimes it doesn't even charge the phone (was like this since day one). The battery barely lasts a day. The phone crashes and restarts sometimes when taking a picture (which obviously is gone) or when picking another song in spotify. Whatsapp often freezes, requiring me to restart the phone in order to be able to use it. And after restarting it, 20-30% of the battery life suddenly are just gone... I really didn't miss this thing.
My girlfriend has the G5 and has a love/hate relationship with it. Loves the camera, most of the software, and the feel in her hand, but she's run into the bootlooping and software crashes multiple times (one so bad it seemingly fried the logic board and was completely inoperable) and is now on her 3rd replacement just to get one that worked consistently. As an owner of the LG G5 and from hearing of the same problems from other users, these are my issues with the phone: - Blotchy uneven backlight - modular phone with only one useful module, the camera control is a joke for the terrible camera on board - bottom module does not fasten properly, sometimes comes loose by itself - charging issues/bad usb port months after using - gps worked maybe 10% of the time, switched between finding multiple satellites to 0 then back - compass sensor did not work - would fail at mobile network data and WiFi at the same time until restarted It is the worst flagship of 2016, and the worst phone I have owned, and it is pretty bad.
I have owned the G5 for 2 months, and there are two issues that glare. 1. GPS is stuck trying to find my location whenever I use a GPS app (Google Maps, etc), leaving directions and location behind. 2. Recently, the main camera won't focus, however, after looking at repair guides, it seems to be super easy, so I might get to do it. Other than that, this phone is a steal if you can get it cheap. I got mine refurbished for $140 on Amazon, which is better than other flagships around that pricepoint, such as the Galaxy S5.
I am a Product Specialist for LG and got the G6 today. It answers everything people wanted. Water resistance and wireless charging just to name a few things ;)
I have an LG V20 and my wife has an LG G4 ( which is getting upgraded to an LG V20 - present, she doesn't know) and we never had any issues. Is not that I love LG, we used to have HTC phones, but now with a little wonderful daughter, camera and replaceable battery was all that we cared about. We camp a lot, so being able to have spare batteries and good photo was all that mattered.
I got the G5 for almost 5 months now and I like it a lot, as you said, the main feature for me is the camera, and the price tag is good, as for the modules, I do agree, that restarting the mobile when switching modules is probably not the best thing but it is not like you are going to be swapping modules 3 times a day! So I can live with that....plus I get bored so fast with stuff in general, so for me the modules bring a senses of 'dynamism' to my G5 if that makes sense! Chipset is powerful enough as a matter of fact I think it is quite good. The B&O DAC paired with B&O earphones work quite well for me. Then I must confess that I am not an intensive multimedia user, I just enjoy taking loads of photos, listening to music with good audio quality and a casual game and for that kind of use the G5 is quite good!
ok so I had the G6, and that phone is amazing, but I couldn't afford to pay for anymore (personal issues) went back to my g5 and I forgot how cool it was to switch batteries and go from 0 to 100 like that instead of waiting for it to charge. I'd never had the screen glitch problem on either one. they are both great phones. performance wise is almost the same, and the cameras are great on both.
I own an LG V20 and I have had it for about a month now. It is one of the most underated phones of 2016 and it delivers everything I need. The seccond display is awesome when switching quickly into apps, the wide angle lens is a godsend and the laser auto focus focuses incredibly fast when I need it to. Having a removable back is also great because I carry two batteries with me. LG may have flopped with the G5, but their phablet offering is a supurb smartphone and I reccomend it to any user that demands a lot out of their phone.
The Best Buy website has new, unlocked versions of the G5 for $300 (refurbs for less), and like Mr. Mobile said, that could make budget shoppers' decisions more interesting. It might seem wisest to make very limited use of the swappable battery to avoid hardware problems--minimizing the supposed appeal of the phone.
I loved my G3, and moved up to a G5 and it's been a bit frustrating. The camera is amazing, but the unlocked version (RS988) took forever to get Nougat. Once it did, it killed half my battery life, and some of my apps' functionality. This has been resolved (mostly) with updates. My GPS also started to work poorly, but luckily it's an easy phone to disassemble and fix. This resolved my GPS issue. I got it on black friday for $399 with an extra battery, battery charger/portable battery, camera grip, and newegg gift card. For the price, it's been okay. I'm just frustrated there are so few smaller sized flagships :(
I have an LG V20, and my girlfriend has the G5. I work for a phone store that sells both, and definitely people know the issues that the G5 has had, and most steer clear of it. Honestly, I am weary to sell one because almost 75% of them come back with issues, and angry phone customers are not ones you want to deal with. Despite this, and overwhelmingly negative reviews of the device, I really like it, and my girlfriend loves hers. I switch phones constantly, and never owned an LG until this V20 and I love it. I wish they would fix their software, and put better quality materials in their builds, but I truely hope they get it together with the G6 and make a killer phone.
G5 owner, power button failed, as well as the rear camera lens, the volume buttons, then the headphone jack. The power button slowly got to the point where extreme pressure was needed to turn the phone on, then no amount of pressure would make it work. Got a S8 to replace it, I hate the S8 though. My phone prior to the G5 was the G3, which had the bootloop issue. Having had bad experiences with two LG phones in a row, I decided to try another brand. I've ordered the four parts to fix my g5 (~$35), & will try to return the s8 or sell it.
You missed the faulty GPS issue with the G5, thankfully is easy to repair but for the less than handy losing gps support is major issue since so many apps need location access
I am using LG G5 F700L Korean variant from last 4 months. I haven't face any bootloop issue in it. I have received almost 14 OTA updates between 6.0.1 to 7.0 and phone is working very fine. No complains about anything. I am quite happy with the performance. Waiting for the Oreo update coming in August 2018.

I own a G5, but I definately didn't buy it for the 'friends'. All I wanted was a removable battery, SD Card, and IR in a phone with great specs. I got that with the G5 (but I should have probably waited for the V20). The phone itself has been pretty good, the only issue I have had is that after the first android update it has been running poorly. The best accessory for the G5 has been the battery kit, which doubles as a powerbank. I see what the reviewers had said about the build quality, but like 99.99999% of the people I have a case (a slim case) which makes it a non-issue.
Actually the bootloop issue in LG phones is a hardware issue caused by low quality lead-free solder. The solution is higher quality or leaded solder and a bit of design tweaking.
My old G2 bootlooped constantly, i can't believe the G5 does too, i nearly bought the G5 a month back but decided on the Samsung S7 instead after watching this video, thanks man!
It's not that it's bad. On its own, it's pretty good. It's just that it's main differentiating point was poorly implemented and its main rival arguably made a more appealing handset for the mainstream market. And the bootloop fiasco which began with the G4, of which I had 2 which failed. Hope they fix everything with the G6.
I own a LG G5 and one thing that I don't think is mentioned enough is it's battery life. My experience of the battery life is that with medium or even lower usage it is always dead by maybe 4pm and on heavier days can easily go through two full charges.
It might cost 400 dollars in the US, but it costs the equivalent of 600 dollars here. It sold so badly that shops have remaining inventory. It's just bad.
I own a V20, and the glass cracked because the flash would turn on from the second display from within my pocket, and I never realized. THe change in heat caused it to crack. I also dropped it in a puddle, and with the crack there, the phone stopped working. I placed it in rice, and after a day, everything turned on and worked, and the camera, also glass was missing and the water sipped in, the camera still works, though the wide angle is a little foggy, but it adds a good filter lol
I really wanted this phone but I was one of the ones bitten by the boot loop bug of the seriously awesome G4. I loved that phone, but having it crap out weeks after the warranty expired put a sour taste in my mouth and I haven't snuggled up to LG since. It is incredible that Samsung was able to recover from the disaster that was the Note 7 (I am typing this on a Tab S6) but LG could not redeem themselves in my eyes, and I wager the eyes of other tech heads.
My wife has the G5 and she loves it. haven had any problems so far. she used to have the S6 and she saids the battery life is much better on the G5 plus its replaceable. I my self own the V20 and its also a great phone. great battery life, great screen and great audio playback from both headphone jack and speakers. speakers are not loud but sound is clear. also cameras are great on both phones and I dont mind the UI.
Hello, Michael! I love the G5 from the beginning! I liked how LG wanted to try something new with the modularity (even though they kinda failed), and knowing the fact, that I would never buy a single module for this phone, I still bought ot. And I do not regret it. Design-wise, I think the phone has a totally unique and sexy looking, thanks to the dual camera setup, the curved glass on the top of the front, and basically the curved top and bottom lines of the phone. Physical button placement is comfortable. The only downside, however, is a huge downside. And that's where the phone's body and the "module" (you know, that little detachable thingie, which the battery is sitting on) meet. On my device the lines meet perfecfly on one side, but on the other side they are absolutely off! It's almost a dealbreaker thing for me, I'd say. Other than that, primer coating... It's not bad at all, yes, indeed, a metal body would be nice, but I'm not complaining. Unfortunately, I dropped it once, and the coating easily got damaged on the corners. I have to say, that if there are any downsides of this phone, the camera makes up for all of them. It's performance is outstanding! The manual mode is very comfortable to use, which was an importatn factor, since I use it 80% of the time. HOWEVER! When I updated to V20a Nougat software, the camera got kind of broken. You couldn't manually set the ISO, because above 0.6 shutter speed, it would have automatically raised it, no matter what you did. Basically killing the noiseless low-light pictures... Very annoying! And even more annoying, that LG realized the problem, fixed it in V20b or V20c, but they are not updating the devices! I had to manually flash a V20c ROM on mine to get rid of this camera problem. But average users wouldn't even realize this "little" problem, I reckon. The cameras themselves are fantastic, the main shooter performs very well, and the wide-angle one comes in pretty handy a lot of times, sometimes I found myself using it more than the ruglar one. Software. Honestly, I have no idea why are people so unsatisfied with the software. I think one can live without an app drawer, I got used to it, too. I like the fact that you can hide all the LG and other kind of bloatware icons, so you can keep your screen organized and clean. I gave it a chance, and now I am used to it. I think it's totally fine. But generally, the UI is snappy. Nougat update rolled out fast, it arrived around November, if I remember correctly, but here in Hungary, I got it on the 16th December. I can't imagine that you couldn't update your phone in the United States. The headphone jack is just as good as a quad DAC V20, I just can't believe that an amateur ear can hear a difference between these two devices. The loudspeaker is loud and clear. One last thing about the screen. It easily burns in. I don't know what is the proper terminology for an LCD burn-in, but it happens! The burn-in, however, is just temporary. I regularly see my navigation buttons' ghosts on my screen if I turn my phone horizontal to, let's say, watch a video on youtube. I'd say if there is something making this phone not feel premium, well this is. The screen is very much prone to this effect, and though it goes away in 5-10 minutes, it's still annoying. So, to finish my long post, I'm overally satisfied with this phone. Having a much better price tag than the competitors, I think LG gives us a lot of good stuff with this device. My G4 lasted me a year, only because it boot looped, woulda preferred to keep it longer for the price I paid for it. The fact that that's still an issue with the G5 should dissuade anyone from buying it and waiting a bit before purchasing a G6. If you're gonna pay hundreds of dollars for any phone, it should last you for as long as you need it.
I love my G5. When I bought it it had Android 6. Shortly after purchase it was updated to Android 7. Now it has Android 8. It didn't slow down after instllation of many apps and the best feature is the exchangable battery. It is one of the most underrated phones.

In such cases it is always hard to compare. No one states "Yay, I have no issues", but everyone _with_ the issue of course complains about it. I'd say it is a smaller percentage than it seems from the comments.

Google is doing nothing about it not Huawei. it seems that is a common trade to sell phones at enormous pricetags and right after a year or so the phones start acting up and the companies don't address the issues living the customers nothing but useless phones after or less than a year or so. there phones lose value almost instantly. it will release at 800 and next month will be 400. they try to be unique and different but haven't had any success doing so
I had the G4 and V10. Both suffered from the boot loop issue. It occurred on my G4 after my warranty expired so I sold it for a hundred bucks on eBay. I made the choice to get a V10 because I loved its camera. It started looping as well. Luckily my warranty was still valid so I swapped it out for a Nexus 6P. I really miss the optics of the V10, but LG needs to address this issue.

Hasan Shaik as Google needs to address the huge issue the Nexus 6Ps are having at this very moment. Instant battery dranage at any ℅ . You never had you Nexus 6P turn off for no apparent issue at any battery % if not beware!!! Google Nexus 6P random shotdowns, turn off or battery depletion at any percentage and you will see. At the moment Im on my 5 Nexus 6P replacements all of them had this issue.

People were not hesitant in the slightest to hate on LG's next flagship once the G4 had bootloop issues.
In the last two years, it seems there phones are getting better and less prone to issues.
I had a G6, G5, and as of right now, a V30. I have used a G6 for a few months nearly a year ago, by far one of the phones I love. Maybe it's the way the OS is or it was the batteries manufactured for LG phones, but I always felt the battery was lasting twice as long compared to my Galaxy S7 edge.
The only problems I had with LG was with the G5, I needed to get a replacement bottom chin because when I replaced the battery, half the time it didn't start up and said 'insert a supported module' instead, getting a new bottom piece fixed this. Also one time, somehow despite the G5 having a LCD, there was screenburn that lasted a day or two and was fixed either with time or with the help of my blue light filter always on it.
Despite that, G6 which I used for around three or four months, was solid and I loved it. V30 seems to be working great so far, though I only had it for a week or two. LGs are great bang for buck, great battery, decently good OS, good hardware, decently good cameras, and after a year of initial release, damn great price.

For those watching this to see if it's worth getting a used one dirt cheap this is my experience:
I exchanged a perfectly good LG V10 for this phone about a year back and the G5 kept randomly rebooting and the mic wouldn't work at all so I thought I'd been tricked. But despite the weird software, the beautiful pink metal body made me invest some time fixing it up.
*Taking apart the bottom module and carefully cleaning the connectors fixed the mic
*Replacing the battery stopped the restarts.
and when I found out about the Gcam support and the incredible boost it's HDR modes added to the image quality, I was hooked. I still daily drive this phone and It's a great conversation starter when I just slide the yellow battery out. Brillliant.
i am, frankly, still blown away by how good the camera was on mine. i upgraded to a samsung midranger and while it's by far the better phone, the camera is noticeably worse. if the latest LGs retain the camera while fixing the flaws i might switch back.
I hated mine, 6 months in the screen started ghosting, tried everything to make it stop and it just wouldn't, even replaced it and even the replacement ghosted, not to mention that the battery life is terrible compared to anything even slightly more modern, and if you ever need to replace the charging port good luck because they marry the port to the motherboard meaning you can't replace it, I also wasn't impressed at all with the cameras, they have this weird oversharp and over saturated look to them and are horrible in low light, the fingerprint scanner literally scratches with a fingernail and after it collects a few scratches it hardly works anymore, I sold mine off and got a p20 pro which is a night and day better phone
I've had the V 20 since November and I love it. Really good camera, video and audio features that I use all the time. I put Nova Launcher on it's been a great phone. The battery isn't as bad as some made it out to be, so that hasn't been an issue for me either and I would consider myself a moderate to heavy user.

I have been using the V20 since december and it's a great phone. Great camera and and Android actually runs smooth on it. Also the battery last all day with a good amount of usage.
I love my G5 and Im thankful its a flop, because I got a mint condition used one for 150 on ebay. Its crazy fast and all its flaws can be fixed rather easily.
Concerned about software? Get an h830 or h850, Root and find a custom rom you like.
Concerned about durability? Use a case and screen protector.
Concerned about bootlooping? Download LGUP and your OS on your laptop, make an LG backup in your phone and you will be fine.
LG G5 is a fantastic phone, for those who know how to exploit its bounty.

I am watching this on a G5 as I write this and I couldn't be happier.
I've had it since launch, nearly a year ago, now and I'm still as happy as the day I got it.
Service reception is good, call quality is stunning, especially with HD sound. (I'm not sure if that feature is a Verizon exclusive, but it's lovely.)
The camera is stunning. Video is gorgeous and records at 60 fps.
The hardware is fast, one of the fastest Android devices I've ever gotten my mitts on. (Bested only by Pixel.)
The screen and charge longevity are the biggest problems. The screen has LCD... echoes, I guess you could say. Watching something white will leave a temporary "burn in" that's quite noticeable for a period of time as the screen changes imagery. The battery doesn't hold the same amount of charge as it used to. I know this is commonplace with LiON batteries, but I was quite shocked. It's nothing terrible, but you can tell they don't last as long as they used to out of the box.
That said, I'm still incredibly happy with it and when it does come time to replace it, I'll be quite sad about it. I've become very affectionate towards this phone and that won't be changing any time soon.
I just bought a used G5 in mint condition for $185 😂 there were like 40 offerings on Swappa. People really didn't like this phone. Works out great for me though.

The G6 was just released then and the v30 wasn't out yet, the G5 dropped from 200-300 to 100-150 as a result.

this is why I still have a g2 on android 4.4.2 kit kat. lag? yes. when you play high intensive games and then go on doing something else. heat? yes ....and I mean burning heat several times...but no problem...water has gotten into phone dropped it on concrete and metal...still no problem. Idk if I should get a g5 now
I have it dude, not a beauty as design but it works without lags and photos are so awesome. Battery is average, screen quality very good but below as light intensity comparing to Samsung amoled screen.

Brody Dalle I know most people don't use 2nd battery but most power users do this and regarding the size it won't be as big as 5600 mAh ie two batteries of g5 and 5 min gets you to 100 % anywhere anytime. And talking to technology of charging qc 4 or any qc technology has heat issue and the technique used reduces the life of batteries due heat. So battery cradle is always good option without any issue and no quick charging
Not sure what phone you would buy instead. I don't think any other flagship phones other than LG has a removable battery. It's a dead feature at this point. Manufacturers gave it up in favor of easier waterproofing, and having more internal space for new hardware features.

Dawid Bartman well if LG isnt selling many units ,and they've been keeping the removable battery since forever. It's logical for them to drop that functionality . I'd rather have wireless charging , and water resistance than another battery . The G6 will play it safe and that's okay . I'd rather them make really good devices than devices meant for a niche market.

Bought the G5 after my Moto X Style's screen shattered. Excellent phone with USB-C, fast hardware, removable battery, amazing camera and Android N which my Moto X hadn't received yet because Lenovo doesn't know what they are doing. Simply a phone worth the money I spent on it.

Beside battery life, it's perfectly fine for me. Its main camera beats my friend's S7 (not talking about its wide angle camera as a bonus), and performance is also fine. It's currently 399. I highly recommended.

I did get the G5 last month...bad timing I know.... I came from an S7 Edge that had a line of stuck pink pixels and it was just annoying the crap out of me. Another reason why I switched from the S7 Edge is because those phones are pretty difficult to take care of with a Screen protector and a case. (Possibly because I'm trash at installing screen protectors).
So far my experiences with the G5 have been nothing but positive. It's fast, double tap to wake and lock is fantastic, the camera is alright (I do miss the low light performance of the S7). It's easy to take care of with a combination of skins, screen protectors, and a case. It's really all that I wanted in a smartphone, it just does the job for what I do.

I've had a G5 since the beginning. I agree on the looks but it's not a big deal to me since I always have a case on it. I was also disappointed by how long it's taken AT&T to release Android 7 on the device. I'm also not the biggest fan of the LCD screen and much prefer the AMOLED screen seen on other devices.
Still even with all that said, I'm happy with the phone. It's plenty fast still, faster than the Samsung counterparts, and the camera is still awesome. The camera was my #1 priority when choosing a new phone last year and that's probably why I went with the G5 and don't regret it.

I'm a proud owner of a LGG4 that perform as well as my Nexus 6P and my S7 Edge and never have an issue with it. When my original Nexus 6P was replaced due to some well know issue when it was updated to Nougat 7.0 and when my original S7 Edge was replace also dew to the fact that this phone is so fragile and slippery, The LGG4 is the only phone that is the original and never got replaced. Still in prestine condition, snappy, when it had fallen out of my hands it just take the hit like a champ and with my 3 extra batteries and a external battery cradle I can go a whole weekend with pulling out any cables to charge anything. LGG4 for me is a keeper. If we don't get any other phone this year with a swappable battery I most likely will get this or the LGv10 or the LGV20. knowing that they the easiest phones to fix and that when the battery give out I can replace it my self is one of the best feature and LG phone has..

bit late replying here, but i've seen a lot of videos of people pushing on the g5 screen and it doing a ripple or flickering but on mine no matter how hard i press or what i do i cant seem to get it to do any of those things? Its like the one i got from verizon had a higher quality screen than everyone else was talking about. and the phone is still holding up perfectly at this point. :/

Not looking forward to the LG G6, I don't understand why $650 phones are so popular? A smart consumer would protect that investment with a case no doubt? rendering the 'premium build' a waste.. or are phones such a status symbol now that everyone must see what logo is on the back?. I used to own a nexus 5, which was a $650 phone on the inside and a $100 phone on the outside which retailed for $349, slap a case on it.. and you can't tell the difference. The G5 dropped in price (rightfully so) and I picked it up for $380 a few months ago, slap a case on it and it and all you can't tell the difference. Replaceable battery is a non-argument for me and easy repairability as I like to keep my phones longer than 12 months.

I don't understand the obsession with glass and metal. Glass is more fragile, and metal requires either glass or metal for the device to actually work as a phone. There are plenty of high quality plastics out there, but hardly anyone uses them.
Some people don't like using cases. I'm not one of those people, but I know them. A friend's been saved from drops by just having a glass screen protector.
Yeah, what I hate, is most of these reviewers don't take price as seriously as they should, they don't live in a world where keeping a phone going longer than 3 years is necessary due to it being a large expenditure. Always their 'favourite phone' of the year is some $650+ 6 inch behemoth.
I begin to worry the direction everything is headed as everyone tries to emulate apple, just take google for example, they killed the nexus line for 'pixel' and everyone is calling it the 'best android phone' or 'finally a google phone worth reviewing' a $650 phone without water resistance and massive bezels? seems everyone gets sucked into the marketing.
These expensive phones should exist, they are beautiful but as a result they should be the niche market and the fully capable nexus 5 type phones should make the majority of sales.. consumerism is a weird thing..

own G5 for some three months. I'm surprised how good phone it is, especially given its price tag.
yeh camera setup is second to none! also it is the best mono speaker phone out there. on top it is the best display out there for everyone that can't stand AMOLED s, and enjoin in pure brought whiteness of IPS. battery capacity come short, but hardware and software optimizations make this phone run for long. I can't say objectively and measurably for how long, because of habit to quickly charge it 2-3 times, for a shot periods of time. QuickCharge 3.0 is something that alongside dual camera setup, sound and display quality, is something that I can't compromise, and G5 delivers. some phones might have better looks, at first sight, but G5 looks grows on you fairly quickly. Plus I keep my in silicon case. My only complain is super aggressive task killing. no more than 5 tasks is in the task list. I don't use "friends" so can't comment on it. I don't see the point, but reckon that having exchangeable battery is good thing on long run.
Looking forward to see what G6 brings, but in the G5 price category there's no better choice ATM.

Thank you for acknowledging the boot loop issues! the G4 and G5's boot looping issues have been really bad (especially the G4), hopefully talking about these things will put pressure on LG to invest more on preventing manufacturing defects.
I have a G5 with nougat. (sprint). this sucker is blazing fast and love the removable battery ❤. screen is plenty great, and honestly I don't care about the primer and paint. I use a case. The cameras, as mentioned in the video are incredible. The wide angle camera is so useful and productive. Only phone I'd consider replacing it with is the V20. Having a removable battery is what determines if I get a phone. I had the G2 for 3 years, excellent phone but the battery got old and drained big time. Hearing LG is ditching the removable battery for a dumbass gimmick of water proofing blows my mind. Sure water resistance is nice, but in my opinion, I'd take swappable batteries any day. I'm responsible enough to avoid water contact. The LG G5 is an excellent phone. Great display, easily repairable, removable battery, excellent cameras, super fast daily operation, and now with nougat, even more customizable.
I've been using G5 for 7months now. And its good, really good. Moduls were a stupid idea ended up as tragedy. Rest is fine though
I picked up a g5 for $275 as a replacement for my zenfone 2 that'd crapped out. For me, what sold me was the specs, removable battery (my zenfone's battery had gone bad), and a slightly smaller screen than the zen's 5.5 inches. The modularity wasn't worth it, but I bought it just to use as a plain old phone, and its hard to find a flagship with a removable battery these days, something I hope Lg keeps putting in their phones. for the price I got my g5 for, I couldn't have asked for anything better

I am the V10 owner with bootloop, thank to warranty for giving me a free motherboard exchange. But lack of updates, bad optimisation, locked bootloader and no word about Nougat update makes me to consider another brand for replacement.
I picked up a G5 this past November when my beloved Xperia Z3 was on the fritz. It's not a pretty phone, true. But its as fast, the camera is nice, screen is bright, batteries are inexpensive and, with something like the Google Now launcher, just about stock. Nougat rolled out not too long after I bought it on T-Mobile, so I'm good there. I'm happy with it and would look to see what the G6 has to offer. That said, I still like my Z3 more. As a $400 phone, it's a steal for the specs. But it wasn't enough to sway anyone from a S7 or HTC 10

I've been rocking a V20 for a few months now and since swapped out a few stock apps for my favorite options (Gboard and Action Launcher, For example), I've been enjoying the hell out of it. While it could do with better battery life, the swappable battery and super fast quick charge more than make up for that in my opinion. My favorite features have to be the quad DAC (with promo B&O earbuds) and the camera. I really feel like I have become a much better photographer by playing around with the manual mode. It hardly offers everything a professional photographer would need, but it really feels like a great starter camera for learning the ropes. My profile picture here on TH-cam is one of the shots I'm really proud of.
As far as it being used as just a phone and surfing, gaming, watching vids, and taking pics, it's an AMAZING phone! As far as the mods/friends, meh. That is it's only true downfall. I had one when it came out, and I'm getting one again because I know it's a solid performer. If you can get over the dumb mods and just focus on what it can do amazingly well, you'll still be pleased to this day today with it. If all you do is focus on it's mod flops, you'll just never know.
No the battery isn't the biggest, but it's optimized well enough to get a fair amount of screen on time regardless. My gf is ALWAYS charging her iPhone 6. ThebG5 does have Quick Charge 3.0 and a removable and replaceable battery. Yeah...um...=SCORE!
And did I mention it can be had in the $100 range today? Less if you buy used or remanufactured. Easy to repair also, and the price of it's parts in on the fall. Another score

I have a G5. It's 2 yrs old and only had one issue which LG fixed. I've replaced the battery which is why I won't buy a phone that the battery can't be replaced. Which is the reason I'd never own an Apple device. It's like buying something with an expiration date. All batteries eventually die. But I love the G5. I'm about to get a new one but it's hard to find one that matches the specs, removable battery, screen size and good speaker.

I'd say only if she's really gonna make use of the superior camera. Otherwise the Honor 8 would probably be a better choice. I'm not too big a fan of the Axon 7 but plenty of people seem willing to vouch for it, so shrug emoji.
I recently bought an LG G5 following the price drop. I must say, it's a suitable upgrade for those upgrading from a OnePlus 2 or similarly priced/specced phone and can't afford a higher priced S7 or comparatively priced phone. The screen and camera are amazing, and as both a Nova Launcher user and (currently) a user of LG's android skin, it's suitable for my needs. As of now, LG supports an app drawer "home screen," which brings back the app drawer, and although it's by no means stock Android, it's growing on me.
I did, however, replace the pre-installed messaging app with Google's app, since I couldn't find a way to disable screen wake-ups from notifs.
The battery life is actually really good on my phone; I can last a day pretty easily, without swapping batteries. This was actually my second choice of phone, however: I was first considering a V20, but opted out for the extra screen real estate due to the size of that phone. I owned both a 5" phone and a 6" phone, and i can say that LG's 5.3" size fits just right for me.
As for the G6, I'm not sure if I will buy it, primarily since I'm curious over Samsung's offering. I may also wait for the next iteration of the V-series to see if that will sway me back to the phablet side.
I recently bought an LG G5 for my wife to replace her Galaxy S6. She wanted something smaller than the trend to go bigger. She also wanted a good camera at a decent price. We were able to buy a new one for $250. Its working great with the Nougat update.

The thing that killed it for me with LG is the UI. It's worse than TouchWiz with all those pastel colors and cartoonish icons. I wanted that Rolling Bot Ball. Not enough to buy a G5 though...

I own a G5, and i actually record all my videos that are on my channel with my G5. It is an amazing phone and just recently was able to install Nougat, which is quite impressive, but the G5 has held out well and the camera is a stand out feature. I'm hoping to purchase the G6 and also to continue recording my videos with the G5! Great video!

LG doesn't have any bootloader issues. they more than likely got paid to lock the bootloaders.

I do have a G5, and I got it around the time it launched mainly looking forwards to the B&O module, only to be disappointed when it never came to North America. However, if you ignore the whole modular aspect and the slight overheating from time to time due to heavy use, it's actually a pretty great phone with the specs it does have. I prefer to treat sliding out the bottom of JUST a way to swap batteries if I don't have time to charge my phone and I need to get somewhere quickly, which is a real nice touch, not to mention having the IR blaster was handy in quite a few different situations. The speaker gets rather loud though tinny at it's highest volumes and the fingerprint sensor is too fast for you to even see the lock screen. As for the G6 I would have hoped for a removable battery and an IR blaster still, since those are nice features to have, but maybe they'll make their home in the V lineup instead.
I use my G5 again (dropped the S8, fixing it is too expensive) and it's truly awful. The USB cable barely wants to stay in, sometimes it doesn't even charge the phone (was like this since day one). The battery barely lasts a day. The phone crashes and restarts sometimes when taking a picture (which obviously is gone) or when picking another song in spotify. Whatsapp often freezes, requiring me to restart the phone in order to be able to use it. And after restarting it, 20-30% of the battery life suddenly are just gone... I really didn't miss this thing.
My girlfriend has the G5 and has a love/hate relationship with it. Loves the camera, most of the software, and the feel in her hand, but she's run into the bootlooping and software crashes multiple times (one so bad it seemingly fried the logic board and was completely inoperable) and is now on her 3rd replacement just to get one that worked consistently. She's looking hard at the G6, but whether LG prices it to something we can afford to get her remains to be seen.
As an owner of the LG G5 and from hearing of the same problems from other users, these are my issues with the phone:
- Blotchy uneven backlight
- modular phone with only one useful module, the camera control is a joke for the terrible camera on board
- bottom module does not fasten properly, sometimes comes loose by itself
- charging issues/bad usb port months after using
- gps worked maybe 10% of the time, switched between finding multiple satellites to 0 then back
- compass sensor did not work
- would fail at mobile network data and WiFi at the same time until restarted
It is the worst flagship of 2016, and the worst phone I have owned, and it is pretty bad.
I have owned the G5 for 2 months, and there are two issues that glare.
1. GPS is stuck trying to find my location whenever I use a GPS app (Google Maps, etc), leaving directions and location behind.
2. Recently, the main camera won't focus, however, after looking at repair guides, it seems to be super easy, so I might get to do it.
Other than that, this phone is a steal if you can get it cheap. I got mine refurbished for $140 on Amazon, which is better than other flagships around that pricepoint, such as the Galaxy S5.
I am a Product Specialist for LG and got the G6 today. It answers everything people wanted. Water resistance and wireless charging just to name a few things ;)
I have an LG V20 and my wife has an LG G4 ( which is getting upgraded to an LG V20 - present, she doesn't know) and we never had any issues. Is not that I love LG, we used to have HTC phones, but now with a little wonderful daughter, camera and replaceable battery was all that we cared about. We camp a lot, so being able to have spare batteries and good photo was all that mattered.
I got the G5 for almost 5 months now and I like it a lot, as you said, the main feature for me is the camera, and the price tag is good, as for the modules, I do agree, that restarting the mobile when switching modules is probably not the best thing but it is not like you are going to be swapping modules 3 times a day! So I can live with that....plus I get bored so fast with stuff in general, so for me the modules bring a senses of 'dynamism' to my G5 if that makes sense! Chipset is powerful enough as a matter of fact I think it is quite good. The B&O DAC paired with B&O earphones work quite well for me. Then I must confess that I am not an intensive multimedia user, I just enjoy taking loads of photos, listening to music with good audio quality and a casual game and for that kind of use the G5 is quite good!
ok so I had the G6, and that phone is amazing, but I couldn't afford to pay for anymore (personal issues) went back to my g5 and I forgot how cool it was to switch batteries and go from 0 to 100 like that instead of waiting for it to charge. I'd never had the screen glitch problem on either one. they are both great phones. performance wise is almost the same, and the cameras are great on both.
I own an LG V20 and I have had it for about a month now. It is one of the most underated phones of 2016 and it delivers everything I need. The seccond display is awesome when switching quickly into apps, the wide angle lens is a godsend and the laser auto focus focuses incredibly fast when I need it to. Having a removable back is also great because I carry two batteries with me. LG may have flopped with the G5, but their phablet offering is a supurb smartphone and I reccomend it to any user that demands a lot out of their phone.
The Best Buy website has new, unlocked versions of the G5 for $300 (refurbs for less), and like Mr. Mobile said, that could make budget shoppers' decisions more interesting. It might seem wisest to make very limited use of the swappable battery to avoid hardware problems--minimizing the supposed appeal of the phone.
I loved my G3, and moved up to a G5 and it's been a bit frustrating. The camera is amazing, but the unlocked version (RS988) took forever to get Nougat. Once it did, it killed half my battery life, and some of my apps' functionality. This has been resolved (mostly) with updates. My GPS also started to work poorly, but luckily it's an easy phone to disassemble and fix. This resolved my GPS issue. I got it on black friday for $399 with an extra battery, battery charger/portable battery, camera grip, and newegg gift card. For the price, it's been okay. I'm just frustrated there are so few smaller sized flagships :(
I have an LG V20, and my girlfriend has the G5. I work for a phone store that sells both, and definitely people know the issues that the G5 has had, and most steer clear of it. Honestly, I am weary to sell one because almost 75% of them come back with issues, and angry phone customers are not ones you want to deal with. Despite this, and overwhelmingly negative reviews of the device, I really like it, and my girlfriend loves hers. I switch phones constantly, and never owned an LG until this V20 and I love it. I wish they would fix their software, and put better quality materials in their builds, but I truely hope they get it together with the G6 and make a killer phone.
My first G4 suffered from boot looping, but nothing can kill my excitement for the G6.

G5 owner, power button failed, as well as the rear camera lens, the volume buttons, then the headphone jack. The power button slowly got to the point where extreme pressure was needed to turn the phone on, then no amount of pressure would make it work. Got a S8 to replace it, I hate the S8 though. My phone prior to the G5 was the G3, which had the bootloop issue. Having had bad experiences with two LG phones in a row, I decided to try another brand. I've ordered the four parts to fix my g5 (~$35), & will try to return the s8 or sell it.
You missed the faulty GPS issue with the G5, thankfully is easy to repair but for the less than handy losing gps support is major issue since so many apps need location access
I am using LG G5 F700L Korean variant from last 4 months. I haven't face any bootloop issue in it. I have received almost 14 OTA updates between 6.0.1 to 7.0 and phone is working very fine. No complains about anything. I am quite happy with the performance. Waiting for the Oreo update coming in August 2018.

I own a G5, but I definately didn't buy it for the 'friends'. All I wanted was a removable battery, SD Card, and IR in a phone with great specs. I got that with the G5 (but I should have probably waited for the V20). The phone itself has been pretty good, the only issue I have had is that after the first android update it has been running poorly. The best accessory for the G5 has been the battery kit, which doubles as a powerbank. I see what the reviewers had said about the build quality, but like 99.99999% of the people I have a case (a slim case) which makes it a non-issue.
Actually the bootloop issue in LG phones is a hardware issue caused by low quality lead-free solder. The solution is higher quality or leaded solder and a bit of design tweaking.
My old G2 bootlooped constantly, i can't believe the G5 does too, i nearly bought the G5 a month back but decided on the Samsung S7 instead after watching this video, thanks man!
It's not that it's bad. On its own, it's pretty good. It's just that it's main differentiating point was poorly implemented and its main rival arguably made a more appealing handset for the mainstream market. And the bootloop fiasco which began with the G4, of which I had 2 which failed.
Hope they fix everything with the G6.

I own a LG G5 and one thing that I don't think is mentioned enough is it's battery life. My experience of the battery life is that with medium or even lower usage it is always dead by maybe 4pm and on heavier days can easily go through two full charges.
It might cost 400 dollars in the US, but it costs the equivalent of 600 dollars here. It sold so badly that shops have remaining inventory. It's just bad.
I own a V20, and the glass cracked because the flash would turn on from the second display from within my pocket, and I never realized. THe change in heat caused it to crack. I also dropped it in a puddle, and with the crack there, the phone stopped working. I placed it in rice, and after a day, everything turned on and worked, and the camera, also glass was missing and the water sipped in, the camera still works, though the wide angle is a little foggy, but it adds a good filter lol
It's funny, the first thing that broke on my G5 was the camera lens. The thing just shattered
I really wanted this phone but I was one of the ones bitten by the boot loop bug of the seriously awesome G4. I loved that phone, but having it crap out weeks after the warranty expired put a sour taste in my mouth and I haven't snuggled up to LG since. It is incredible that Samsung was able to recover from the disaster that was the Note 7 (I am typing this on a Tab S6) but LG could not redeem themselves in my eyes, and I wager the eyes of other tech heads.
My wife has the G5 and she loves it. haven had any problems so far. she used to have the S6 and she saids the battery life is much better on the G5 plus its replaceable. I my self own the V20 and its also a great phone. great battery life, great screen and great audio playback from both headphone jack and speakers. speakers are not loud but sound is clear. also cameras are great on both phones and I dont mind the UI.

I love the G5 from the beginning! I liked how LG wanted to try something new with the modularity (even though they kinda failed), and knowing the fact, that I would never buy a single module for this phone, I still bought ot. And I do not regret it.
Design-wise, I think the phone has a totally unique and sexy looking, thanks to the dual camera setup, the curved glass on the top of the front, and basically the curved top and bottom lines of the phone. Physical button placement is comfortable. The only downside, however, is a huge downside. And that's where the phone's body and the "module" (you know, that little detachable thingie, which the battery is sitting on) meet. On my device the lines meet perfecfly on one side, but on the other side they are absolutely off! It's almost a dealbreaker thing for me, I'd say. Other than that, primer coating... It's not bad at all, yes, indeed, a metal body would be nice, but I'm not complaining. Unfortunately, I dropped it once, and the coating easily got damaged on the corners.
I have to say, that if there are any downsides of this phone, the camera makes up for all of them. It's performance is outstanding! The manual mode is very comfortable to use, which was an importatn factor, since I use it 80% of the time. HOWEVER! When I updated to V20a Nougat software, the camera got kind of broken. You couldn't manually set the ISO, because above 0.6 shutter speed, it would have automatically raised it, no matter what you did. Basically killing the noiseless low-light pictures... Very annoying! And even more annoying, that LG realized the problem, fixed it in V20b or V20c, but they are not updating the devices! I had to manually flash a V20c ROM on mine to get rid of this camera problem. But average users wouldn't even realize this "little" problem, I reckon. The cameras themselves are fantastic, the main shooter performs very well, and the wide-angle one comes in pretty handy a lot of times, sometimes I found myself using it more than the ruglar one.
Software. Honestly, I have no idea why are people so unsatisfied with the software. I think one can live without an app drawer, I got used to it, too. I like the fact that you can hide all the LG and other kind of bloatware icons, so you can keep your screen organized and clean. I gave it a chance, and now I am used to it. I think it's totally fine. But generally, the UI is snappy. Nougat update rolled out fast, it arrived around November, if I remember correctly, but here in Hungary, I got it on the 16th December. I can't imagine that you couldn't update your phone in the United States.
The headphone jack is just as good as a quad DAC V20, I just can't believe that an amateur ear can hear a difference between these two devices. The loudspeaker is loud and clear.
One last thing about the screen. It easily burns in. I don't know what is the proper terminology for an LCD burn-in, but it happens! The burn-in, however, is just temporary. I regularly see my navigation buttons' ghosts on my screen if I turn my phone horizontal to, let's say, watch a video on youtube. I'd say if there is something making this phone not feel premium, well this is. The screen is very much prone to this effect, and though it goes away in 5-10 minutes, it's still annoying.
So, to finish my long post, I'm overally satisfied with this phone. Having a much better price tag than the competitors, I think LG gives us a lot of good stuff with this device. Even though I'm not going to buy it, I am looking forward to the G6.

My G4 lasted me a year, only because it boot looped, woulda preferred to keep it longer for the price I paid for it. The fact that that's still an issue with the G5 should dissuade anyone from buying it and waiting a bit before purchasing a G6. If you're gonna pay hundreds of dollars for any phone, it should last you for as long as you need it.
I love my G5. When I bought it it had Android 6. Shortly after purchase it was updated to Android 7. Now it has Android 8. It didn't slow down after instllation of many apps and the best feature is the exchangable battery.
It is one of the most underrated phones.
