Casting a Yellow Brass Cube - Element Cube Collection

- Next cube to be added to my element cube collection is Yellow brass, which is a common alloy consisting of 33% zinc and 67% copper. First the copper is brought up to its melting point around 1089°C, and then the zinc is added. As seen in the video; the copper is too hot which causes some of the zinc to burn away (the green flames and white smoke).
The first attempt results in a cube with a big shrinkage hole in the side, which is improved in the second cast by having a large riser above the cube to provide more molten brass when the metal cools, shrinks and solidifies. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Nice collection so far:)
Thanks 🙏🏻 I hope to add more exotic materials soon :)
Do you know why it generated flames when you put the zine in the molten copper?
Yeah, that copper was simply too hot; making the zinc burn. The tricky thing is that copper melts at 1089°C and zinc start boiling at 907°C already..
@@jakobhalskov That is a bit tricky, I didn't know that about the temperatures. Thanks for answering.
@@stormelemental13 Yeah, and you are very welcome!
