Casting a Solid Bronze Scorpion

  • This is an example of lost organics casting, similar to lost wax, the organics are burned out the same way to make the bronze. These scorpions were humanly harvested and were then then places in the freezer. being they are cold blooded they simply slow down and go to sleep in the cold until they actually hit freezing point at which point they will not wake up again.
    I did another video on grasshoppers that showed some of the mistakes I made but now I seem to have the process for casting insects down.

    Your homemade vaccum chamber is awesome. How much would you say it increases details?

    • @lundgrenbronzestudios
      @lundgrenbronzestudios  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly the detail on the main part of the body is the same. What is better is the flaws. And air bubble that may have gotten stuck before, or if I don’t have a proper vent, gets sucked out and the casting is a lot cleaner. It also help the metal flow into really small spaces. Like the grasshoppers I cast, even the antenna were captured. I never would have captured that without the vacuum. So in that aspect the detail is significantly higher.
      But if you don’t have a clean burn out or, your pattern isn’t done right, it isn’t going to fix those types of problems. But it makes getting a clean casting way easier.

    • @lundgrenbronzestudios
      @lundgrenbronzestudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      The metallic crystals are from metal shrinkage. As the metal cools and contracts it pulls away from the mold and gives the crystals room to grow. It’s not uncommon but usually it’s something we try to avoid. You be never heard of someone trying to do it on purpose.
