Doo-wap is the genre that truly broke the racial barrier, never knew if who you were listening to was black or white or whoever. I wished it could have lasted longer than it did but the volume of material that came out of that short era is phenomenal.

He passed away a couple of years ago. I saw him perform two years before his death, and his voice was just as strong as in 1959. Love to you for keeping great old music alive!
The sound you were referring to is the piano being used to create the double time, it was typical during the 50's and early 60's Janet Vogel had the range to compliment the song as she reaches high "C' at the end. High "C" is equal the note created by the last key on the piano keyboard which 7th octave of the C notes on the piano. Not many women can hit that note and most were professionally trained to do so. The song is a standard recorded in 1959 by the Skyliners as you have heard it. Never gets old!

Jimmy Beaumont is an underated volcalist. Go and watch his live performances all the way till 2017 just before he passed away in 2017. Even in his 70's he was ripping that high note. Awesome singer.

This song is a rarity because it went higher on the R&B chart (#3) than it did on the pop chart despite that the group was white. Great harmony. Lead Jimmy Beaumont died last year (2020) and all of Pittsburgh was saddened by his passing. Pitt remains the national center for group harmony oldies and the Skyliners was their most famous group. Sad to say, Janet Vogel, who hit the extraordinary high note at the end of the song, died by suicide. Pitt tradionally had no tolerance for silly racism and two of that city's most popular groups, the Del-Vikings and the Marcels, were racially integrated, which was something you seldom found at that time except in the Bronx (e.g., Robroys) and Brooklyn (e.g., Crests) boroughs of New York City.
From McKeesport PA. They started out as a street corner do wop group......playing at local high schools and colleges. This was a romantic era where women, unlike today, were placed on a pedestol. You should watch the movie American Graffiti. It is a great movie but also a cavalcade of music of the era, including this. :) It starrs Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul LeMat, DJ Wolfman Jack as himself. You can also spot Harrison Ford in a minor role.
The song is even more amazing because Jimmy Beaumont, the lead male singer, was only 17 when he and Joe Rock wrote it. Janet Vogel was 15 when she and the guys sang it. The group were friends from the Pittsburgh area. Jimmy lived in McKeesport, PA. All generations and people love this song as soon as they hear it. It was a far better time back then.

The Skyliners came to our hometown when this song was popular and we went crazy! I was a teenager and they asked my best friend and I to go to their hotel room. My sister's boyfriend was in a rock and roll band and he heard them and he put a stop to that in a hurry!!!

This is one of the greatest songs of all times. It was released in 1958. I was in the 7th grade. The home of the Skyliners was Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pittsburgh so the Skyliners were a local group. Everything they touched turned to gold. Try reacting to "This i Swear". Also a great sound!! The voice of Jimmy Beaumont is hard to match. I had the privilege of knowing Jimmy. Unfortunately Jimmy died a couple of years ago. Now this song brings back memories of when I was in elementary school and my grandpa would drop me off at my favorite movie theater, it was my favorite because for about 10 to 15 minutes before the movie would start they played 50s and 60s music and I LOVED IT! sometimes a song got cut off because the movie was starting and get mad because I didn't get to hear the rest of the song

As an afterthought I thought might like this song from the era of a few years before doowop. It was written in 1953. This live version by Lorrie Morgan was recorded 50 plus years after it was written Apparently in 2008. Or at least posted on youtube in 2008.

But if you dig this kind of sound, man, there were ten thousand R&B doo-wop vocal groups who recorded from 1953 to about 1964. That comes to 100,000 recordings. You, my friend, have an entire world of songs waiting for you.
At the 03:40 mark you are hearing the violin Plucks which was also used by Buddy Holley because it creates to image of Rain Drops where several movies used rain drop for tears of sadness. He changes the mood of the sound to say " When you walked out on me ....in came the misery " .

You should watch the movie American Graffiti. It is a great movie but also a cavalcade of music of the era, including this. :) It starrs Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul LeMat, DJ Wolfman Jack as himself. You can also spot Harrison Ford in a minor role.

The song is even more amazing because Jimmy Beaumont, the lead male singer, was only 17 when he and Joe Rock wrote it. Janet Vogel was 15 when she and the guys sang it. The group were friends from the Pittsburgh area. Jimmy lived in McKeesport, PA. All generations and people love this song as soon as they hear it. It was a far better time back then.
When singers actually knew how to sing ,long before the invention of Autotune. When Jimmy Beaumont bumps his vocals up several octaves on the last full verse it sends chills down my spine every time I hear this song , and I’ve been hearing it since I was seven years old. I’m 69 now.

The Skyliners came to our hometown when this song was popular and we went crazy! I was a teenager and they asked my best friend and I to go to their hotel room. My sister's boyfriend was in a rock and roll band and he heard them and he put a stop to that in a hurry!!!

This is one of the greatest songs of all times. It was released in 1958. I was in the 7th grade. The home of the Skyliners was Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pittsburgh
so the Skyliners were a local group. Everything they touched turned to gold. Try reacting to "This i Swear". Also a great sound!! The voice of Jimmy Beaumont is hard to match.
I had the privilege of knowing Jimmy. Unfortunately Jimmy died a couple of years ago. Until the end he continued to appear and he sounded exactly like he did in 1958.

Awww, my music 🎶 I grew up on these great songs with people who could actually "sing" no need to use all the latest gadgets to make them sound like they can sing. The voices were so clear & I love these oldies too. The Platters had my heart as a kid 💝💝💝

Now this song brings back memories of when I was in elementary school and my grandpa would drop me off at my favorite movie theater, it was my favorite because for about 10 to 15 minutes before the movie would start they played 50s and 60s music and I LOVED IT! sometimes a song got cut off because the movie was starting and get mad because I didn't get to hear the rest of the song

As an afterthought I thought might like this song from the era of a few years before doowop. It was written in 1953. This live version by Lorrie Morgan was recorded 50 plus years after it was written Apparently in 2008. Or at least posted on youtube in 2008.
Ty. I grew up on this music (and sang it) and it's good to see young people today digging it. This is a doo-wop ballad under the umbrella of R&B. Other doo-wop were uptempo. But if you dig this kind of sound, man, there were ten thousand R&B doo-wop vocal groups who recorded from 1953 to about 1964. That comes to 100,000 recordings. You, my friend, have an entire world of songs waiting for you.

At the 03:40 mark you are hearing the violin Plucks which was also used by Buddy Holley because it creates to image of Rain Drops where several movies used rain drop for tears of sadness.
