A lot of red herrings here Warren that pointed to configuration/compatibility problems. You’ve got some balls taking these engine changes on. Well done Sir, amazing as ever.
That was a long battle Warren. Congratulations on the results. Thank You for the effort You put into sharing everything. Best Wishes to You and Your Family.
Warren rodgers you are a genius man ive watched you for alota yrs now and your always amazing me man.whatta they gonna do when you finaly hang up those tools. Yeah i hope the appreciate just what hard work you put in for their every whim thank you warren
It is impressive how you can go from these conversion projects and the complications they bring to all the other stuff you work on and then back to this
Great video Warren glad to see your getting this truck figured out. Glad you were able to finish this project truck and start on another project. Thanks for sharing stay safe Warren.
Great job Warren, keep up the great work and great content! Thank you so much for sharing some of your insight and knowledge. I have learned so much from just watching your videos, you are informative and share the "in's and outs' of everything you do! Thank you
Hey Warren, nice to be able to get that project out the door and off the books huh. They seem to turn into quite the effort by the time you’re done. But you got r done the Warren way, with persistence! Great job, thanks much for the video.
Glad you got the issues figured out, I has to be nice to have it come together after the struggles you’ve had. Thanks for the explanations, the video, and enjoyed watching.
Warren, you sure don’t give up on a problem, always more difficult when you don’t know that the Speedometer didn’t work before you started working on it.
It’s amazing some of the strange issues you find. Seems like there would be all kinds of issues when working with older trucks and newer software. I’m glad to see it’s not just on Commercial HVACR equipment. Appreciate your videos.
Hey Warren, great job bud! Happy to follow along with this one! Can possibly give you a hand with the code that’s generating. If you need a hand let me know, thanks Ken
You would not believe that all that trouble with the Speedo was all because someone had pushed in the wheel sensor 😯. Anyway looks like you are about finished with this truck .👍👍👍 You do get some head scratcher problems.
Warren I never knew that the age ran off AC current. That's weird. Must have an inverter in it someware. Cool to learn that, Thanks. Seams like every ladder you work on is a mess of some kind or another. Nice job Warren.
We had sensors like the wheel speed sensor on computers to detect shaft speeds 50 years ago and the sensor put out pulses and we used an oscilloscope to read them. A Digital VOM will read a voltage on the AC voltage scale as the input voltage to the VOM on the AC input is converted to DC to give the voltage display. With the old analog VOM you could read the sensor signal on the DC voltage scale and you would notice the needle on the scale vibrating and that would indicate a pulsating voltage.
Amazing project. Not practical but I respect someone doing it just out of principle. I just did the same thing eliminating those stupid plastic firewall bulkhead manifold block on our Peterbilt. All the push to connect fittings leaked at only 41k miles what a joke!!! It was a pain in the neck to convert, but now I have all metal compression fittings and something that I can guarantee won't leak for 40 years.
Warren, these Paccar MX13 engines have a flaw with the air compressor gear train failing, causing metal to contaminate the engine. If you ever have one of these out, it may be a good insurance policy to change it. I’ve seen them fail 400-500k.
Good to see you again Warren, missed you for a couple years (not prison, bought a farm in Kentucky). I have some catching up to do, is this the same truck you were putting together years ago?
I read that chn is building an engine that’s tuned to run so clean as to not need any after treatment. Probably too good to be true, but that would be great.
Ha! I had that same sensor air gap problem on a trailer last night. I wonder why yours didn't throw an air gap or loss of signal code in the ABS system...🤔
Their CGI blocks have problems with letting the liners wear and drop, causing head gasket failures. The EPA-17 series was notorious for the pressed on cam lobes for spinning on the cam and failing. The current EPA 21 are having tremendous injector failure problems due to design flaws. The EPA-13 has been regarded as the best series for reliability. But overall, if you sort through those problems or dodge them, they've been pretty good for longevity. The trouble is the proprietary software and the company holding it hostage over mechanics such as Warren here. IMHO they should support their customers and provide access to the software as part of their customer service program rather than treating their customers like mushrooms. But unfortunately most modern mfgs are like that.
Hi could you tell me a way to read and understand wiring schematics off the internet. No money for school. Also best way if there is to learn how to do and understand trouble codes to follow the diagnostic process of the internet if at all a way. Thank you as always great informative videos.
Smog check these company's out so they are forced to move out of California. Go green and ya left with an empty wallet. No wonder shipping costs have doubled since 2021. Some old folk have a check engine light on continually too. Good video Warren.
Bunch of other components electrically tied to it. Basically could use smart phone with gps speedometer app or a gps map unit. ABS depends on speedometer and vice versa.
The thing is, do we agree in principle with the reasons for the rules ? for instance, smog reduction, if we agree that is a necessity, then you have to have the rules to ensure it happens. The trouble is that everybody seems to think it does not apply to them ! Of course the population has to agree that to get towards a smog free state, the cost of everything that moves must go up hugely, but of course everyone thinks that does not apply to them either ! So I suppose the logical end result must be that no-one with a normal income can live in California, and those that can afford it, can't get anyone to do anything for them !
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 Did I say that ? did I hell ! I attempted to use smog reduction as an example of a thing we might be in favour of in principle, but like most of us object to when it is applied to us. Could be anything Tyres or noise, whatever. Out of curiosity, what do you think smog checks are for ?
Glad that pile of crap isn't mine. It's nuts 20 something year old trucks are more dependable than new ones. How can a owner make money with that junk? Guess the government cares less. Tons of respect for you sir !
22:00 it's control, we have to get emissions checked every time we have to get a road worthy ticket which is every year! Commonly know as an MOT certificate. We still rebel and moan as you do
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 Oddly, people think the customer tells the mechanic everything. South Main Auto Channel had a vehicle dropped off recently, intermittent no start. The DIYer had torn the dash all apart. Wires hanging, parts all over the passenger floor and in the backseat. Eric O. fixed it and gave it back the way he got it. I agree with what he did. Don't know what you are doing, then leave it alone, not tear it all apart and then "you fix it". Never even told him that's what they had done, just left it there.
The only reason why California would implement frequent smog inspections on trucks is because so many people are running deleted trucks and with once a year inspections owners could still make them compliant once a year to pass without too much inconvenience. Quarterly inspections would make deleted trucks a thing of the past in the state.
Well what's the purpose of a delete, it's not an act of rebellion it's breaking them, so when you make deleted trucks a thing of the past, no more trucks, except like everything else in America the large government subsidized ones can afford to buy 3 trucks and driver that can only do the work of 1 deleted truck.
One of the latest they're working on (and it's expected to pass) is no diesel trains allowed in the state after 2030, locomotives have to be electric, (zero emission).
@@eyeameye9565 A rather clueless statement! What do you do when you can't buy an internal combustion engine, can't buy gas or diesel? It's like the ones who say "stop paying your taxes". What happens when the government steps in, takes your property and puts it up for tax sale? Maybe you didn't bother reading about the American rancher who tried standing up to the government. He was shot dead! The same ones bringing in this legislation should have a severe shortage of food and water. Tactful, might be deleted anyways.
Gotta admire your determination with this job Warren. No one could ever call you a quitter!!!!
Determination indeed! Troubleshooting skills are amazing!
There are very few techs left like you Warren. Last of a generation.
A lot of red herrings here Warren that pointed to configuration/compatibility problems. You’ve got some balls taking these engine changes on. Well done Sir, amazing as ever.
A journey, into the world of hardware and software conflicts and then configuration for good measure. Warren is a very brave man.

Hi From The Cook Islands
good morning Warren! Thanks for the share!
Warren made this job doable. A dealership charge out would have been astronomical, IF they could figure it out.
Around here the dealers won't do them, they don't like tying up their real estate like me. 😂
Well done that sure was a job an a half to figure that out.

If you update the truck and take it into the smog inspection shop, do they even know what they are looking at ?
Do the European designed MX engines hold up to the high constant load cyle of U.S. trucking? Early MBZ Freightliners had cylinder block failures.
Their CGI blocks have problems with letting the liners wear and drop, causing head gasket failures. The EPA-17 series was notorious for the pressed on cam lobes for spinning on the cam and failing.

What is going on with that CAT truck , did the owner skip town or what

Is that a massey back there? Rare breed in your shop.
Think CRA should be doing an audit.

What does a swap like this cost ?
UK annual car and HGV testing includes emissions

Is a mechanical speedometer not possible with these trucks ?
Bunch of other components electrically tied to it. Basically could use smart phone with gps speedometer app or a gps map unit. ABS depends on speedometer and vice versa.
Epa17 has issues with head gaskets. Rapido is dead it’s RMI now it’s through paccar portal.

Essentially yes. But sensors/parameters are specific
Rapido is paccars service info I believe. Accessible through RMI if you ever need anything from RMI let me know we have a login
U0156, is that an audio, Bluetooth code
