This is definitely my favourite Van Morrison song, just one of my favourite songs in general, got some fond memories entwined with the melody, that may be why. Surprised you didn't know it, but what a bonus for us that you didn't. Great reaction Harri, thank you so much. ✌❤
The title track to one of the greatest albums from 1970, which was a beautiful blending of jazz, r&b, blues and Irish folk. The entire album is superb from start to finish. "And It Stoned Me", "Caravan", "Into the Mystic" and "Brand New Day" should be explored too. Wonderful reaction.
I'm 70, this song came out when I was 14. Man, between the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Allman Brothers,etc.etc. All these musicians in this small window of time.
An absolutely beautiful song from Van from his 1970 album, " Moondance". A wonderful album saturated in folk, jazz, country and soul, this being one of his most successful jazz compositions. The funky piano by Jeff Labes, the sax and flute accents, Van on the accoustic guitar delivering a wonderful romantic vibe in the lyrics and melody. An absolute treasure. Great reaction Harri, glad you discovered another Van masterpiece. Great choice Neal. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
Awe-inspring song from Van the Man. The entire album is classic. Special mention has been made about the bass playing by John Klingberg, who was only in the band for a couple of years. Sadly due to illness and the ravages of substance abuse he passed in 1985 at 39. And he was not strictly speaking a jazz player. He came up playing trumpet and bass with r&b cover bands in New York City before somehow connecting with Van Morrison when this was recorded in A&R Studios in NY. Thanks Neal and Harri.
One of my favorites...that album is still one of my very favorites of all time. I still listen to it from track 1 to the end as I have for over 50 years.
Van is actually a saxophonist so it's no surprise that that he had a love for Jazz & composed a song that crossed both it and Rock into a timeless classic. Hard to believe that its over 50 years old.
In an interview, Van said that he originally wrote "Moondance" as an instrumental. It would still be my favorite song without words. That bass line is so recognizable!
Great song and album! I love Tupelo Honey as well. The walking bass in this is almost playing counterpoint to the melody. The guitar vamp is very jazz like. Very much a swing type feel.
This whole album was a favorite of my group of friends and played so often when we would get together. One dear friend would get up during this song and do his dance interpretation of this song. He passed way too young about 20 years ago. Miss you,Joe. RIP.
One of the best albums from that era, imo…this entire LP blew everyone away. All of the instruments seem to be doing a dance- flute, piano, sax, bass, etc. I don’t think Van ever sounded better! Many thanks, Neal, for another wonderful request, and Harri for your reaction.
"moondance" is a great song. van morrison began with a british r&b band named "them" who released some great 60s classics as "baby, please don't go," "here comes the night" and "gloria." my favorite van morrison solo album is "his band and the street choir" (1970). van's wonderful use of horns really shine in such great songs "domino" and "blue money." thanks for the video and great music choice.
listening to "moondance" again suddenly reminded me of another song with much the same "bass driven" smooth energy called "blue collar" from bachman turner overdrive's (bto) first album (1973). check it out.
Great pick Neal. My youngest daughter and I had Van's 'Days Like This' as a father daughter dance at her wedding. Loved Van going back to Gloria and Them. Thanks Harri .
This song will forever remind me of Frazier, one of the greatest sitcoms in TV history.. and the episode when the Niles character finally gets to dance with Daphne Moon, his ongoing but untouchable crush. I think the episode was called "Moondance". Sheer brilliance, both the song and the TV episode.
Van the man..!!! He can sing anything... What an artist, untill Them, he is one of the bloody irish I prefer. Irish is my dreamed country, I'm french but those men... Specially the girls😂...Are my beloved brothers and sisters, of blood.
When you get Van the Man you get like a slice of everything! He adds elements of jazz, soul, blues, irish, gospel, pop in his music. I've heard this song long before i actually began listening to him!
This song and Brown Eyed Girl are probably Van's biggest hits. He's so good and he's the whole package - singer/songwriter/musician. He really is a poet and a romantic.
I would rather not get myself frustrated thinking of how rare it is to hear a song like "Moondance" by Van Morrison. Even when I first heard it was at the theater, not on the radio. It was in the movie "An American Werewolf In London" (1981). 43 years ago, harri.
hi mate, not seen your show for a while! have you been upsetting the Devs @yt? hehe. another great reaction mate! keep up the great work please :) big love to all people :)
There was a multi part Martin Scorsese documentary called the blues. an episode seven total red white and blues, it featured UK singers influence by American blues. One of the singers was Van Morrison and I was surprised at how he sounded Anyone who is a fan of the blues or rock ‘n’ roll should watch this documentary. It’s a total of eight episodes.
From what I've learned of Van Morrison, "Moondance" is an aberration. I really thought this jazz fusion genre was a natural musical creative part of Van Morrison. It's the same experience I had with the song "Love Changes (live)" by Mother's Finest. That's why I had to be cautious when buying albums back then, harri.
Actually, the album "Moondance" was released in January of 1970. It was, however, recorded in August of 1969. The single was released in September of 1977.
Check out this live version of his best-selling "Domino", with Elvin Bishop on lead and session great Reni Slias backing. th-cam.com/video/dJla5iGO3_o/w-d-xo.html
My Favorite song by Van! Was on the SOUNDTRACK of the CLASSIC HORROR MOVIE AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. One of the BEST HORROR/ Comedy Movies EVER MADE!!
Van's best!
This is definitely my favourite Van Morrison song, just one of my favourite songs in general, got some fond memories entwined with the melody, that may be why. Surprised you didn't know it, but what a bonus for us that you didn't. Great reaction Harri, thank you so much. ✌❤
musical genus.
One of his best songs by Van and I am surprised Harri doesn't know this one. Thank you Neal and Harri.
You're welcome, Cynthia; always a pleasure!
I think this is my favorite VM song. Great choice and commentary. Thanks Harri and Neal 🌺✌️
You're welcome, Debbie!

Brilliant soulful music and vocals by Van the Man!
This is my favorite song by Van for sure and I thought Harri had listened to them all. Great pick Neal.

Pricey bottle of wine, dim candlelight, Moondance…almost a sure thing!
I was 6 years old when this song came out and I have never forgotten it
Hard to forget such a classic masterpiece! You have great taste in music!!
The soul of Van's voice is off the charts.
One of his signature songs, and deservedly so. One of the classiest songs ever played on Classic Rock radio.
Awe-inspring song from Van the Man. The entire album is classic. Special mention has been made about the bass playing by John Klingberg, who was only in the band for a couple of years. A favorite for years.......and who can forget this playing in American Werewolf in London?
Neal - You picked one of Van Morrison's great ones, "Moondance". Very well done Harri and Neal. Bravo!
Always grateful to be able to share great music from artists like Van Morrison, Dave! Thank you, brother!
My favorite song since 1970. It started me liking jazz. Still adore the stand up bass.
My son and his wife danced to this at their wedding! SO gorgeous!!
Definitely like but still have a soft spot for his Sweet Thing!
It Stoned Me is my fave Van song and this whole album is aces.
One of my favorites...that album is still one of my very favorites of all time. I still listen to it from track 1 to the end as I have for over 50 years.

My favorite Van Morrison song! Also one of my favorite bass lines. It just fits so, incredibly well.
Back in my drinking days the first thing I did went I entered a bar was to put this on the jukebox
My favorite.
This IS my favorite song period.
No matter how many times I've heard it since 1970, I still love it!
Moondance is one of my favorites. There are so many more Domino , come running, blue money and caravan
In an interview, Van said that he originally wrote "Moondance" as an instrumental. It would still be my favorite song without words. That bass line is so recognizable!
Love Van Morrison, he was also with a band called Them, please listen to Gloria it’s fantastic! My favorite song of his is Tupelo Honey.
❤
The whole album is incredible
One of my Proudest moment as a Teen was when I learned to played the Walking jazzy Bass. I love this song
So many memories to this. Ty Harri and besties. Slainte ☘️🇺🇲

Fantastic song and one of my Mom's favs!
OMGosh that bass with the piano, one of my favorite songs by Van!
❤🌙💃🏼
this song was so so so amazing...and he was married to the iconic "Janet Planet" at the time...they were the '60's IT COUPLE...
Van the man..!!! He can sing anything... What an artist, untill Them, he is one of the bloody irish I prefer. Irish is my dreamed country, I'm french but those men... Specially the girls😂...Are my beloved brothers and sisters, of blood.

Into the mystic is another good van Morrison song
The album with this song was released in 1970. But it wasn’t released as a single until 1977
Just one of the best out there.
I would rather not get myself frustrated thinking of how rare it is to hear a song like "Moondance" by Van Morrison.

@martyemmons3100 Good thing come to those who wait, brother! Glad we could deliver!
Astral Weeks
My fave of Van's ♥
After this beautiful song I always want to hear Moon Shadow by Cat Stevens (Yusuf), for a place to rest my heart.

I cant believe that u Harri never heard this before..one of his best!!❤❤❤❤
if you've seen the movie "An American Werewolf in London" then you've heard this song before.
Early 70s, like around 1972, I think.
Good guess! 1970 @00:14

This song is considered soft rock/jazz rock
It was released in 1969
Actually, the album "Moondance" was released in January of 1970. It was, however, recorded in August of 1969. The single was released in September of 1977.
The piano part sounds like Dave Brubeck in both composition and performance, but he was not involved.
When was the video made? Those are not cars from 1970.
🙄😝
@@pncombies Can't answer the question then.

Too many stop's lost the song it's finished
"stop's"? 😂
So sad where Van Morrison is now. He’s become a conspiracy theorist.
@susanstein604 Wrong thread, wrong forum! It's about his brilliance as a musician and sharing his great songs! 🤨
Harri Who the F--ck is Van Morridan?
It wasnt Morridan it was Morridon! You see how easy it is to make a mistake now? 😜😜😜😛
