Kitchen Imp is a key piece. To guarantee there is always a creature, besides the Skelly, you can run Stinkweed Imp or Golgari Brownscale). IMO, refurbished familiar + blood fountain are quite a power upgrade.
I am also brewing a mono black tortured existence list, but it uses bartered cow and cauldron familiar as a value engine. Maybe this deck could consider Grave Scrabbler or Kitchen Imp to get more value from the discard with Tortex.
I initially ran Grave Scrabbler, but found it to be more clunky than Skelly. Sometimes Scrabbler ends up on the battle field with no way to get it back in hand to discard again. Skelly always goes from hand to graveyard and back, so there is no chance of it getting stuck in zones where you dont want it. I considered Kitchen Imp as a sideboard card if I need a clock or against emblem-decks, but did not really know how to make it work or if it was worth it. As a standard win-condition Troll seemed to really carry the day for me, so I dropped most other "aggressive" pieces.
I've only made it through the deck tech, but I love it already. I gotta be honest, I didn't know that Tortured Existence was a common card haha. But I have a handful of those and I've been trying to figure out where to put them, so this deck (or something like it) might be worth a shot! But just in general, I love seeing creative brews that step outside of the same handful of Pauper cards. I have a couple of those hard plastic tool box cases from Stanley that I've used to store all the pauper cards, including staples, but also the new commons that feel like they could have a role, and so I love trying to put together stuff like this. How do the deck donations work on Patreon? Do you have to gift the cards through MTG online, or do we just submit a deck list? I might have to hop on there and see if any of my jank takes it to the bank lol
@@ullrich I've got access to all of the cards on mtgo so I can play anything which is awesome. You can either do a one-time via PayPal or sign up to a recurring through TH-cam or Patreon for $30. Then pm me your list and I'll run it! Feel free to dm me on discord or twitter to get more info
Man this list is exciting, I’ve tried sanitarium skeleton as an engine before in torex but I never dropped to mono black. Id probably still run the green dredge lizard for his lifegain synergy
I went from the classic GB to mono black because I felt the mana base of Golgari Tortex decks is very stressed by having green creatures (or enchantment selection) combined with how much black mana you need for your engines. I also decided to make the deck less dependent on Tortex since I cut the ways to find it and cards like Thraben Charm or Masked Vandal can mess with your plans. (Initially I did have Golgari Brownscale in it for the lifegain with no green mana to cast it, but since the deck is not so all-in on tortex, it can get stuck in your hand and feel really bad.)
@ great point on running without finding tortex, I was noticing how well it kept up without the value engine in play, not so impressed with transmogrant though but candy trail was quite good at imitating the green deck selection. Thoughts on kitchen imps? With bone shards you have a good amount of discard besides tortured existence.
@@devangoad Transmogrant I put in as an alternative clock to Troll since it can hit for 3 and it can be played on turn 1 to dispute turn 2 (which Kitchen Imp cannot). I did (and still do) consider imp in the sideboard against emblem decks or for match-ups where you need a fast clock, but honestly I dont really know what I want in the sideboard.
Some times i got the feeling monoblack control doesnt take off because of us, bad players that like monoblack. When i see kalikaiz playing the deck, it looks so good
I feel like haveing a Witch's Cauldron would have been great for the grindy games plus gives you more value with fiend and your skeleton when you hand is empty
@kalikaiz you have to play to get views and for the majority of your subscribers. I've just been playing against the same three decks, in general, and it's boring the hell out of me. Still love your content.

Yeah control mirrors with Tortex ... I used to play Tortex against my friends Teachings Control years ago and it was basically "get a good Crypt Incursion or grind forever and loose to Tortex". xD
If Im reading it right, you could have just discarded the transmogrant at 5:00 to bone shards instead of casting it and bone shards. Imo I think I have to reconsider bone shards… Im imagining an orzhov list that discards strands battle screech and maybe sacred cat/ lunarch veteran. Like, isn’t bone shards better than raffines informant in most situations? It doesn’t even punish you for discarding a land lol
