Truer words haven't been spoken. Since I abandoned the "guilty pleasure" mindset I've expanded my musical horizon and started enjoying more genres of music (and enjoying them more) than ever before.

Well, IMHO most of nowadays pop its just overrated and boring. But there's some songs here and there thats not actually that bad. And 80 and 90 Pop had tremendous artists like ABBA, Madonna, Michael Jackson or Hall and Oates. I also really like the 90's Eurodance.

For me it would be Lady Gaga...especially the song "Bad Romance". Such a great and powerful song. The truth is I have no guilt with listening to Gaga or that song. people have given pop a different meaning these days. but it literally stands for popular music, which is anything in the top 40 or that makes it onto those stations. and yeah i listen to all sorts of weird obscure genres, but a great pop song is a great song. i could make a huge list of favorite pop songs but lately ive been listening to "only in my dreams" by Debie Gibson alot. always loved that song.

I used to have this ”guilty” feeling listening to non-alternative music when I was younger but now that I’m more grown up I realize it’s all just music. Every track you listen to doesn’t have to have a profound meaning and significance to you or have deep lyrics, it can just be a song you like. I still listen to songs by artists I dislike, either for something they have done/are doing or for differing opinions, because it’s just music.
I think a lot of that feeling comes from ridiculous attitudes in school. In my school anyone who liked metal was picked on and made fun of. From what I've heard, it was a common experience in UK schools.
Kurt Cobain was a big fan of Rupaul's album . People can appreciate different kinds of music, genre aside. I'm with Cory Taylor on this one , I'm not ashamed of anything that sounds good to my ear. From New Kids on The Block to Joe Tex to T Rex to System of a Down. Blondie, Nirvana, Abba, Bieber, Hole, Xxxtentacion, Guns n Roses, Marilyn Manson, The Pixies, R.E.M. Chris Isaak, Cyndi Lauper, The Misfits, .....etc. If I like it, then it's good to me, I don't feel like I should feel guilty or be apologetic for what music strikes a chord within me.
Metal has always been my preference however I do listen to a lot of rock, hip hop, pop, classical and electronic music. Anyone that refuses to listen to more than 1 genre is just depriving themselves of so many good songs that they have yet to hear just so they can keep their identity as a "metalhead". I know I was the same until I opened my mind and expanded what I listen to.
Well i will tell you that personally i am not doing that because i am i just want to keep my identity as a metal head but honestly metal and some good ol' rock is all i ever feel like i need and i also i dont know of any songs/artists of other genres that i actually like. I know that i would like some electronic stuff but i dont even know where to look for it and i also REALLY liked one particular rap song that i heard as background sound on another video on youtube that i lost track of and i cant seem to ever find it again even tho i actually want to so for now and the foreseeable future all i am gonna listen to is metal...
I don't keep up with new music, but the new album by Dua Lipa is superb. I'd heard three singles from it on the radio so I bought the CD and loved it. Also Over Now by The Weeknd. Flames by David Guetta and Sia. Happy by Pharrell Williams. Lady (Hear Me Tonight) by Modjo. You Get What You Give by New Radicals. And Lola's Theme by Shapeshifters.

Mainstream music had the Beastie Boys and Madonna for crying out loud. It was an amazing time for music. Now, for instance, indie rock is just played on certain music stations and is not included in the mainstream anymore. To me that sucks because, back in the 80s, it wouldn't have been that way and a lot of indie music that people don't even know about, would be played on all the so called 'rock' or mainstream music stations.🤔

I used to have this ”guilty” feeling listening to non-alternative music when I was younger but now that I’m more grown up I realize it’s all just music. Every track you listen to doesn’t have to have a profound meaning and significance to you or have deep lyrics, it can just be a song you like. I still listen to songs by artists I dislike, either for something they have done/are doing or for differing opinions, because it’s just music.
I think a lot of that feeling comes from ridiculous attitudes in school.
In my school anyone who liked metal was picked on and made fun of. From what I've heard, it was a common experience in UK schools.

Metal has always been my preference however I do listen to a lot of rock, hip hop, pop, classical and electronic music.
