How do you handle AI empire and brettonia cav spams? Im always getting overrun, they usually bring in 2 Pegasus knights and a lord on a griff, and a fuckton of questing knights and knights errant, sometimes a couple of grail knights.
Hey mate, been looking through forums and TH-cam, and was wondering if you have the time to do a Followers of Nagash/Arkhan the Black guide? I’m a veteran of TW, but damn, shit is hard. Everything I bring from your Tomb King Guide and my own Setra’s campaign just isn’t working.
In WH3 I tend to just run out of winds long before I run out of spells if I go with 4 priests. I prefer to use a plague lord with 1 priest, backed up by 2 packmasters (and 1-2 warlock engineer). The packmasters give me 8 summons that don't depend on having winds, and with the 14 magical summons (10 vermintide + 2 plague monks + 2 stormvermin) and 5+ menace from below summons I have 27+ summons, which is usually plenty in my experience. Most battles I don't even bother bringing in extra menaces.
So @LegendofTotalWar what's your Skryre Doomstack? My final army is something like Warlock Master, Warlock Engineer, Plague Priest, 4 Ratling Guns, and 2 each of Jezzails, Warp Lightning Cannon, Plagueclaw Catapults, Poison Mortars. Then a "front line" of Warp Grinders and Doomflayers. I know you like Doomwheels more than Doomflayers but are there any other differences? . It's probably the most diverse endgame stack of any faction, for me. I see value in all the different weapons teams = they each do something a little bit different that's important in certain spots. Well, except the warpfire throwers, which are just crappy Ratling Guns.
iirc from his last uploaded Skrye stream, he's started replacing the Doomwheels with more Plague Priests, and got talked into using the Avalanche RoR. If you don't mind the irritation of all the backseat gaming and "you don't know what you're doing, Legend" stuff from the chat, it's a very entertaining & informative watch.
Legend's typical Skaven stack is lord (Greyseer of Plague/Warlock Master/non-Snikch LL), 4 Plague Priests (I think Legend's tending towards mixing them up in terms of mounted/on foot, maybe two of each, guess he hasn't made up his mind tho), 2 Engineers, 4 each of Jezzails, Ratling Guns & Plagueclaw Catapults and one Poisoned Wind Mortar. Needs a bit of micro skill for the Plague Priests but it's super strong and can one on one anything the AI brings with ease once you get used to how it works.
After playing my clan skyre campaign at higher difficulty i have found out that by far the best trait for the warlock engineer lord of the skyre doomstack is "fleet-footed" You may think "bullshit - worst trade ever!", but pls stop for a moment and listen to me: As legend stated here one cannot overstate how much d*cking around the AI and not doing damage can help you delaying the enemy 20% speedboost and not being slowed down by terrain is massivly helping with that and gives your general the tool to do exactly that Only difference is that you are raining warp lightning on their head every 10sec on max level In 98% of the field battles i dont even need my 4 plague priests My lord is handling all the delaying actions himself Even against really strong oppositions Get a doomwheel or -flayer - what suits you best I am more of a doomwheel person but you cant be wrong And if you dont believe me just try it out; this trait works wonders!!
Skaven are so OP in this game, single player wise: -the ability to take settlemets at lvl 5 or 3 respectively -unlimited mobility with the underway -weapons teams +artillery is fucking broken for skryre, if you get to the endgame no army will even reach yours -under empire mechanic -ambush on ATTACK -menace below to fuck with enemy artillery -and i personally dont even think their high tier infantry is bad, stormvermin can hold out for a long time and eshin triads/deathrunners cut even through dwarfs super fast (this is if you play on difficulties where melee is viable at all) i really really love the skaven for all that, but they make all other races look bad in comparison and that by a LOT
High elves and dark elves are equally broken in their own ways. Ample ranged and magical firepower + almost unlimited economy is really powerful. Even Lizards have their OP aspects, though less so on higher difficulties where early game Saurus spam won't take you as far.
It's not as drastic as you say. Skaven are overbuffed, but not to the point of standing out against everyone else. They need all that shit to stand against the ordertide. And it's easy to get overwhelmed against a lot of shock units with a ranged build. Really, only under-empires are blatantly OP in player's hands, to the point of fundamentally changing the game. Dark elves for example have arguably an easier economy with slavery and black arks, dark elf economy beats even skaven under-empire, which requires a lot of time and investment to grow to pay what an average DE t4 province does at 60% slaves. Tomb kings are just steamrolling past mid-game, as you're never going to be able to field 10+ elite armies without conquering half a map as any other race. Vampirates have all the campaign BS going for them, including coves. Vampire counts just have a very solid economy and free skeletons and shock roster and insane magic. Bretonnia has no supply lines, nuff said. High elves have been really nerfed economically, their economy is pretty shitty now in my opinion, but their armies are extremely powerful, and they can befriend almost any faction for free, because influence is dirt cheap. Dwarfs are basically slow-growing more vanilla, tougher skaven. Even the new Greenskins fell like pretty above average with automatic WAAAGH armies.
The only downside I can think of is just how their armies of lots of guns are great for field battles but really suck for walled settlements unless your army comp is mostly just plagueclaws. Skaven are broken but honestly unless you spam plagueclaws their great field armies and great siege armies are quite different
If this was in WH3 with the new garrison update, this would be a lost game... also, speaking of Plague priests, you can make them melee gods by slapping them on their mount. Well, at least they won't get bodied if they get looked at funny. I may be skewed because I like the mount's appearance though...
Ive been a skaven fan boy since I started playing this game but Im still very new to the total war series. What is a good campaign build for the skaven? My build right now is almost exactly like this minus a few ranged units but im not sure if theirs a more optimal build
Well an optimal build would be like Legend of TW mentioned: a core of ratlings, Jezzails, plagueclaws, PW mortars, and WL cannons making up most of your army. Fill them out with 2-4 Plague priests (for summoning roadblocks), a few doom flayers/doomwheels (for distracting), a WL Engineer (for buffs), and a lord of your choice. But for a fanboy, I would definitely recommend experimenting with all the different fun and unique units the Skaven have to offer. For example, the above can be a Skryre-themed army; now make one for Clan Moulder, Eshin, Mors, and Pestilens.
In my current Skyre game I just left Athel Loren alone and invaded Bretonnia. Tilea and Estalia are mine, and Sartosa, plus the mountains to the east. But god damn is Bretonnia giving me problems, because they're allied to Reikland and I am basically in a war of attrition with both. Now my economy is fine, but the AI just has money shoveled towards them so I'm just hoping to raise enough armies to make a break towards Altdorf and Courone.
If there's a skaven undercity what's the point in destroying them? They don't seem to do anything? Can anyone tell me bc I can't find the answer online haha. I found 2 but they don't appear to be doing anything to waste 7k to destroy them
Just saw Vince Offer in a Slap Chop commercial just before this video for the first time in, I think, 8+ years. I had forgotten how great he is, I watched the whole ad. Pure entertainment before watching rats
Normally I agree that Skavenslaves are generally more efficient than Clanrats, but against Elven factions is where I have to disagree with that. The missile resistance granted to shielded clanrats is very very strong against hundreds of arrows raining down upon the frontlines of Skaven - something that Skavenslaves don't have, eating all the arrows with their bodies instead. I always try to have clanrats with shields by the time I get into tussling with the Wood Elves, but Skavenslaves basically any other time except when my economy allows for better frontlines. The bit about having Plague Priests with their summons as the frontline is new to me though, I'll definitely have to give that a try
Clanrats have also charge defense and their melee defense with all the campaign buffs is adequate, somewhere in the high 50s. They can actually assault walls with some help, against basic units, and last there. Their leadership is not as hopeless as skavenslaves, too, it can be salvaged with buffs and a commander aura. They're good when you want some frontline at the start, and then immediately spam vermintides and menace from below to reinforce. In elite armies like Ikit, it's better to go 4 or more plague priests, but in general purpose late game armies I like clanrats, 4-8 of them is enough depending of how many summons you can get.

After playing my clan skyre campaign at higher difficulty i have found out that by far the best trait for the warlock engineer lord of the skyre doomstack is "fleet-footed"
You may think "bullshit - worst trade ever!", but pls stop for a moment and listen to me:
As legend stated here one cannot overstate how much d*cking around the AI and not doing damage can help you delaying the enemy
20% speedboost and not being slowed down by terrain is massivly helping with that and gives your general the tool to do exactly that
Only difference is that you are raining warp lightning on their head every 10sec on max level
In 98% of the field battles i dont even need my 4 plague priests
My lord is handling all the delaying actions himself
Even against really strong oppositions
Get a doomwheel or -flayer - what suits you best
I am more of a doomwheel person but you cant be wrong
And if you dont believe me just try it out; this trait works wonders!!
Wait, at 11:44, is that the Treasonous gits in Kharak Bhufdar? The fuck?
How does saving campaign work? do ppl send the saves over or what. m i tarded plz xplain
That gun line was something else... jesus
Skaven are so OP in this game, single player wise:
-the ability to take settlemets at lvl 5 or 3 respectively
-unlimited mobility with the underway
-weapons teams +artillery is fucking broken for skryre, if you get to the endgame no army will even reach yours
-under empire mechanic
-ambush on ATTACK
-menace below to fuck with enemy artillery
-and i personally dont even think their high tier infantry is bad, stormvermin can hold out for a long time and eshin triads/deathrunners cut even through dwarfs super fast (this is if you play on difficulties where melee is viable at all)
i really really love the skaven for all that, but they make all other races look bad in comparison and that by a LOT
Skaven are broken but honestly unless you spam plagueclaws their great field armies and great siege armies are quite different
beautiful warp-fire yes-yes!
Mortars, slave slingers and heroes. That's the skaven way
Seems like orion isnt that eager to fight legend since is standing towards him with his back
Next time you look at their lord as in how he is upgraded
That was total awesomness!
If this was in WH3 with the new garrison update, this would be a lost game... also, speaking of Plague priests, you can make them melee gods by slapping them on their mount. Well, at least they won't get bodied if they get looked at funny. I may be skewed because I like the mount's appearance though...
Just curious how do I set it to groups of 4 unit artillery?
Now my economy is fine, but the AI just has money shoveled towards them so I'm just hoping to raise enough armies to make a break towards Altdorf and Courone.
just wait till lothern starts sending stacks
If there's a skaven undercity what's the point in destroying them? They don't seem to do anything? Can anyone tell me bc I can't find the answer online haha. I found 2 but they don't appear to be doing anything to waste 7k to destroy them
Just saw Vince Offer in a Slap Chop commercial just before this video for the first time in, I think, 8+ years. I had forgotten how great he is, I watched the whole ad.
Pure entertainment before watching rats
clanrats wouldn't break as easily if they're led by Queek
Every time I thought I knew it all, LoTW surprises me.
Thanks for the content Legend! 😀
I rarely had any disasterbattles when having a nuke at hand lol. Just clumb up the enemy and boom.
what a coincidence. I started Itchy claw campaign just a few hours ago
Remember when Legend used to hate Skaven?
