That's a peculiar thing on which to focus, however, since you mentioned it... Hong Kong was never a colony of Great Britain. The Kingdom of Great Britain ceased to exist in 1801 (some four decades before the British seizure of Hong Kong Island) when it united with the Kingdom of Ireland to form the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (which became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland following the Irish War of Independence). Moreover, whereas Hong Kong Island was ceded to the United Kingdom in perpetuity in the Treaty of Nanking following the First Opium War, the New Territories, which came to constitute 86.2% of Hong Kong, were merely leased by China to the United Kingdom for 99 years. Therefore, at the time that this animated film was made, the overwhelming majority of Hong Kong could indeed be referred to accurately as "Hong Kong, China".
@@SultanChase thanks for the history lesson. Asian history is really not my bag if you know what I mean. I'm not disinterested in it however. Hong Kong and it's people are losing their freedom to the Chinese Communists.
I'm sure the songwriters didn't take much heed. At the time they wrote it, they simply were looking for a word that would rhyme with "Carolina" and "Ocean liner".
