    • @Siansonea
      @Siansonea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@batman1169 her health issues never affected her voice. Her last recording, "Now" from _Voice Of The Heart_ is just as strong as any of her earlier recordings. And that vocal performance was never intended to be a final take, it was a 'working track' meant to get an idea of the vocal for production purposes. Because she died before she could do any more work on the song, it ended up being used for the album, and it certainly doesn't sound like she wasn't giving it her full effort. And it definitely doesn't sound like she was suffering from any vocal deterioration due to her failing health.

    Let me just amplify the suggestion that you check out their song "Good-bye To Love". It's a great song in it's own right, but it also holds a place in Rock and Roll history. Richard Carpenter wrote the song after watching an old movie in which the song title "Good-bye To Love" was referred to several times but the song is ever actually heard. Richard decided that the title "Good-bye To Love" was just too good to not have a song to go with it, so he wrote one. When they recorded it, Richard decided he wanted a full blown distortion, fuzz tone guitar solo🤘 on it. Oh boy did that turn a few heads😯 But it is the earliest example of the"power ballad" I am aware of.
    Really a beautiful song, and the guitar solo is actually pretty good 👍😊

      My favorite Carpenters song. The guitarist said he played something 'soft' at first but Richard stopped him and said 'No, burn man, burn!'. So he did lol. It is a great solo. I'd have to point out tho that, as with everything, The Beatles did it first, when George laid down a screaming solo in Paul's ballad "Let It Be" recorded in 1969 and released in 1970, two years before Goodbye to Love. Both stellar songs. RIP Karen and George.

      Toatally agree, as with another comment that mentioned this. Thanks for the extra info as well.
      I'd worry though that finding a live video of this wouldn't do the album recording true justice.
      We didn't have video's or daytime tv in dem olden days, and though we got some American shows in ireland where I grew up, there was little chance to catch an appearance. I prefer audio only anyway.

      Tony Peluso did the guitar solo. I thought it was Richard that was credited with that type of solo in a soft ballad type song. Let It Be, would qualify and predate. Nevertheless it’s a helluva track. Even Paul loved her voice after Ticket To Ride.

    Karen Carpenter , beautiful voice and human being, gone too soon. Thank you so much for giving respect to a great artist with your kind words. I would love to hear one of my favourite songs by the Carpenters called, I won 't last a day without you. Peace and love

    Herb Alpert, co-founder of A&M Records signed The Carpenters.
    I attribute arrangements by her older brother Richard … and quiet support
    of Lani Hall (who also has great voice), Herb Alpert’s wife in best talent during 1970s for them.

    If you can find the studio performance video of this song, it will knock you out-her voice is much fuller and she sustains the notes longer-absolutly to me her best performance of any song. makes me tear up everytime I hear that version.

    She had one of the best voices...good songwriter was good too. Her brother did a lot of it.
    She has a tonic like voice. The scale she could reach, from low to high, was AMAZING

    I grew up listening to the Carpenters - so soulful and full of emotion. I never realised how real her songs were until I found out she suffered from depression, anxiety, and severe eating disorders which eventually killed her. The songs still can make me cry.

    I'm SO happy for you to discover Karen and Richard Carpenter. He produced and directed their music. Also the look on YOUR face listening to her angelic voice is awesome. Have you ever heard Three Dog Night song called Black and white? I would like to see what you think of it.

    Not only was Karen blessed with that voice, but she was an amazing drummer. She actually thought of herself as a drummer who sings. People also miss that it took her brother Richard's arrangements and keyboard/piano skills to make the magic, Richard would choose the songs and create the arrangements that made Karen's voice shine. Personally, my favorite song has always been For All We Know. The other thing for me is, it is not Christmas without the Carpenters Christmas album. Listen to Karen sing Ave Maria or Merry Christmas Darling from that album too.
